This is just a freight company that delivers large packages that you buy from Amazon.  We ordered a range hood for our kitchen and they called to schedule a delivery day.  They did not ask for any money, they knew what I ordered and my address.  Just wanted to confirm delivery day and time.  Not sure how that could be a scam.  I think this number is an internal Amazon number and shows up for various companies that contact you on behalf of Amazon.  Amazon does not give them your actual number, they assign a number to you that will call your phone without showing the other person what number they are actually calling.  The callback number they left on my voicemail was a local number, where as the one on caller ID is a CA number.  They said this is to protect the customer.

They were calling regarding an order I had placed through Amazon.com.  That the item was not in stock and they were not sure when it would be back in stock.  That they were going to cancel my order and issue me a refund.

All of a sudden we have lots of "its legit" posts here.  No normal person looks up a number when they know who called them.  That leads me to believe that the scammers are populating this thread with a lot of lies to make people believe that this really is Amazon.  Amazon does not call you unless you request it.  They will send you an email.  It is also my understanding that 3rd party vendors are not to have direct contact with you.

Called multiple times simultaneously (3 incoming calls at once -- their robot malfunctioned).

Call destination # was non-pub telco, not any of the numbers I use for Amazon, UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL.

Robot left no message.

Reported as spam and blocked

Called and said he was trying to deliver a package from Amazon. It was super muffled and I couldnt hear him very well. I told him to leave it at the front office.

We have had two scammers here today trying to tell people that it was a side seller from Amazon calling them.  That is nowhere near the truth.

Called home number at 3:41am on 12/28 - Unknown Name.  Amazon does not have my home number.

I placed an order on Amazon, its a transport company, items needed a pallet/trucker delivery.

Call came in at 11:30 at night. No message.

Received a call on my cell phone.  Came up as Potential Spam on caller id, so I didn't answer.  Voicemail said the guy was from Amazon and the Purell hand sanitizer I had ordered is out of stock so I needed to go online and cancel my order by the end of the day to receive a refund.  I'm suspicious, I've never received a phone call from Amazon before, it's always been via email. I'm not cancelling and am curious to see what happens.
