- Greensboro Resident| 1 replyThis number keeps calling my house and often times I will answer and no one is there. They just hang up. I have yet to hear anybody or get a message from them. I have noticed them in my call log for calling about once a day for the past month. Is anyone else being hung up on as soon as you answer?

- Dave in NCJust wanted to let everyone know I get these calls as well. I get tham several times a month, and they are annoying! They will either call and leave a message, or they will just call and will not leave anything. I have got to the point I ignore them. Usually, the call is a 919 number (Raleigh), and the Call ID will say who they are, but today I got the call from them and the Call ID showed "Out of Area", but it is a 704 (Charlotte) number this time.

Yeah, how stupid of me. Oh, and calling us idiots. That will really motivate us to write you a check. Thanks. - SandyCalled 12/4/08 wanting to send a packet with stickers. Asked for $25, $50, $100 donation that would be tax deductible. Send back in envelope provided with money order or check. Seemed suspicious to me. Said someone would call back to confirm address. About 10 minutes later the phone rang and I let the answering machine answer and nothing was said. If this was legitimate, someone would have said something.
- JeffI let the answering machine get it. They hung up without leaving a message.

- mjsI'm glad to see all the very appropriate responses to the ex-employees very inappropriate message. They have been running these scams for years and it really ticks me off that they would pick this subject matter as the ploy. I’m a retired Trooper and when the caller found that out he hung up on me as I started to ask him questions. Call your local FOP chapter and they can tell you if there is an active fund drive in your area. Also be aware that many police depts. have survivor benefits as well has federal monies that are available, but that is not to say that all depts. do. Rule of thumb, never give out personal info over the phone, and if they don't stop calling that is definitely harassment and you should call your local police dept.
- soliciteeReceived solicitation for a police charity from caller. Wanted me to provide credit card number for donation and I refused. Told me to mail information at my home address. Someone called back to verify that I wouild provide a donation, about 15 minutes later and wanted credit card info., again. I repeated that I would not provide credit card info, send me info and a request in the mail. They said they would comply.
I do not plan to send a donation.- Caller: police protection

- jamie replies to ex-employeeoh wow a cop bitching about cops not getting more money out of the public...whaaaa ! i ( sorry to admit it guys) used to manage the fraternal order of police office in asheville nc and it's basically the same exact thing. and i can tell you from ACTUAL EXPERIENCE that only 50 cents per dollar (at the most) goes to the charity you are told that you donate to. i know that most of the money pays police bonuses, and informants,a pays overtime so they can set up roadblocks at 2 a.m. and on and on it's spread out to "wherever they need it most" is what i was always told was the reason that say $1000 a week was raised and only $400 was reported to be donated for the week to the kid print or other program. understand folks. WE ALREADY PAY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH OUR TAXES and they make a lot more than around 60% of us. so maybe THEY should be the ones donating to each other, and leave us alone. And to the cop: hey guy think this over: if you weren't all such [***] to the general public at every possible oppertunity, and weren't all tripping over your huge egos maybe we would respect you a bit more. we the people are not happy with our employees. ( that would be you) and that is why for every comment defending the police's actions, there are 100 + condemning them
