I called the local police chief and he told me not to give them anything. He took the number and was going to call them: You can do the same.

We pay them to do their jobs and they are aware of the risks.Further,ever hear of life insurance.I would rather donate to our service members that have no say where they are deployed and cannot quit if it's too dangerous.And I'm not donating to scammers posing as vet groups either.

They are NOT the "Local Police" or Police Department. They are a company by the name of Police Protective Fund out of Austin TX and Hollywood CA with callers in New Port Richey calling the State of NC on BEHALF of their own pockets. However they are claiming that they are located "IN" the NC and they do that to trick you in to thinking that it is not a professional fundraiser calling you because if you know it is a professional fundraiser calling you, then you would ask how much of the donation you make to the Fake Charity Police Protective Fund actually goes to the Local NC Police Officers. The fundraising company can pocket as much as 99% of your 100 dollar donation. Again, that is 99 dollars of your 100 dollar donation will go to the professional fundraiser, and guess what he uses it for? He uses it to make more calls to you so that you can give him more donations for these criminals that are on the phone.

They actually had the nerve to call and pitch us and our church runs a program that goes after fraudulent fundraisers for Police Fire and Veterans. We advise that if yo get a call from this group. Never give them a penny and call or email your Attorney General and Secretary of State and then call and report them to yoru local police Sheriff and media or newspapers.

The Police Protective Fund, according to their website does not run "a death benefit fund for officers killed in the line of duty, they shut that program down after they were sued during Operation False Charity in 2009 and when they were sued and fined 450,000 by MO. And even still the so called "FUND" was never a "FUND at all but an insurance policy. They is a big difference.

We are currently tracking these people through about 1200 of their actual phone lines on message boards like this one and the only way to shake us is to change phone numbers. We expect that number to rise to around 10,000 in the coming months. Every time they get a new number to work from, as soon as they start calling they generate complaints that show up on boards like 800notes.com among others giving us their new phone number to track. In other words every time a fraud pops up, anywhere in the world, we know about it within a day or two of it beginning and can report it and attack it right away.

Please include as much information about the call as you can.

Specifically we need to know the phone number that called you? (we are building a database of every phone number that these groups use to track their call’s.)

Exactly what they told you?

Did they say they were a police officer or a fireman or a veteran? Active or Retired?

Did they say they were calling “with” or “on behalf” of an organization?

Did they say they were a charity or a non profit labor organization?

Did they try to guilt you in to giving?

Did they imply or infer that they were actual officers making the calls?

Did they use intimidation tactics? (if you felt intimidated then yes they used them)

Did they say the phrase “you not in trouble or anything” implying that you should think you might be?

Did they thank you for your past donation?

Did they imply a local connection?

The techniques these organizations employ are by their very nature, deceptive and illegal.

If they have mailed you ANY marketing material, please scan it and email it to ely@pfcl.org to include the full contents of any communication, letter, sticker, return envelope, etc etc etc. *we are only interested in what they tell you so please whit out your personal information before you email it in) we want it from every group that contacts you not just the one on this board. We are looking for sales techniques that many States have already stated are illegal. Once we find them, that information is sent to the Attorney General in the States where they are operating.

Our investigation techniques differ from the Government. We investigate from the outside in while they go after the numbers from the inside out. The numbers do not matter to us, to be quite blunt about it, if the illegal techniques are there, the numbers are too.

Check out page 5 of the book describing the “Police Protective Fund” it’s the exact same program as that of the Officer Down Foundation. How do you suppose that Officer Down Foundation wound up with the exact same program run by the exact same guy as The Police Protective Fund? They must have bought from the Police Protective Fund since it is a program and an asset of the Police Protective Fund. Whether it is a good program or not it still belongs to the people who donated to the Police Protective Fund which paid to develop and implement it. That would be the exact opposite of your group where the donor’s think they are giving to the families of officers killed in the line of duty but what you dont tell them is that the money they donate is really going to David Fair's personal mission of this "Crisis Chaplain" concept.

Just received a call from Police Protective ..... today. As others have said, either $100, $50 or $25 donation and wanted my credit card number over the phone. Yeah right! You just wonder how much these dirt bags take in a year. Not from me.

They're calling me AGAIN!!! I've asked to be removed from their list and told them again,what they're doing is illegal.All this even after telling them I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff!!!!!

These idiots called me and claimed to be a charity which helps the families of local police officers slain in the line of duty. The jerk on the phone tried to make me think he was 1) local to me and 2) a cop by saying, "We don't use professional fundraisers, so 100% of your money goes to the local families." When I asked if he was a police officer or civilian employee at the local precinct, he hung up on me. Obviously, if it was a legitimate fundraiser where they didn't use a professional fundraising company, that would mean the local police would be directly involved. When he hung up, that told me all I needed to know.

The number was (704) 542-9359 and my caller ID displayed "Police Protect." The other clue that this was a scam is that Charlotte, NC can *hardly* be considered "local" to Raleigh, NC. I also called my local police department and asked if they were currently raising funds for any type of fund for slain officers, and they said no.

Morons - I will be reporting this fraudulent call to the NC Attorney General!

I don't know if they are real or not, but it doesn't matter, they already get paid by US through our taxes.  They have no right to be panhandling.

Got a call today.  They insisted my name was different because their records said otherwise (been living here a long time.)  I told the caller who was quite boligerent that less than half the money makes it to the organization.  He SWORE he was a member and they do not use professional solicitors.  And he continued to press me for money.  I refused.  Since he did not have my name (I never give it out) he did not know what to do and hung up on me.

I went out and reported this to the N.C. Atty General.  I hope they can do something to stop these people in N.C.  Jail time would be nice too (for fraud.)

I just received a call from this number saying police protection fund for the folks who are killed in the service and their families. He gave me the address that we lived 5 year's ago and I innocently gave him my current address and he asked me if I want to be a bronze (50 dollars), silver, gold donor..I asked him if he has anything less and he then gave me 25 or 35 bucks donations...and asked me for my credit card or debit card number as they can immedietely get funds and help families. At that time I doubted if they are really genuine and told him I have none and can send check. He said he will mail me the details and I can send them a check.

This is a fraud.  The caller even argued with me about not using a credit card.  I told him to mail me something and never got it.  It may be a Charlotte union using this as salary money.

They call almost everyday and never say anything. When I let it ring, they don't leave a message, when I answer, they hang up on me. I'm getting a little creeped out.

This is outright Fraud.  A member of my church is a detective on the Charlotte police force. He said these folks are frauds.  If they collecet $100 they will donate 5 cents to the local police department!!!!! That's how they stay one step ahead of the law.  The best answer to these guys  is "I send my money directly to the police benevolent fund".  The instant the clowns think you actually do have ANY tie-in to the police department, theyll  immediatly get off the phone!
