Received a call from a "Henry Lee" from "WI Associates.  He was apparently looking for my brother-in-law, Danny.  This is the 3rd call that we've received, along with a letter (which we returned stating "no one here by that name), from this bunch looking for my brother-in-law.  I've advised them I don't know anything about his whereabouts and to QUIT CALLING ME!  They keep doing it.   He said that he can't "help" my brother-in-law unless he gives him a call.  I called the number back and left a message advising them to stop calling our home; that I didn't know where my brother-in-law was, and even if I did, I would NOT let them know.  If they are so hellbent to find him, they need to do it on their own -- it's illegal for them to be calling third parties about a debt!!  He even gave a case number, which was ridiculous.

Dealt with Wayne Brown tonight BEFORE checking anything and paid $500 over the phone.  I am supposed to pay $1700 more tomorrow.  I called the bank, but they can't stop a check card payment anymore but they will cancel my card and issue a new one.  I filed a complaint with the FTC, but want to know if there is a class action law suit in progress or what chance I have of getting my money back.  The debt was opened 10 years ago and has been inactive for almost 6, so I'm sure I screwed up the whole statue of limitations now.  Any help is appreciated.

WWR Associates need to be stopped.
I have been harrassed and illegally threatened numerous times by WWR-Associates.  They are under heavy fines for breaking so many laws and are under pressure to collect money from as many people as they can, therefore they harass you and harass you and harass you.  I know a woman who's been pursued at work for several years by this company.  They don't stop.  Regardless of how many times you tell them to stop calling you at work.

They have called my boss, threatened to sue me, screamed at me, called people that i work with, insulted me, tried to intimidate me, called the Administrative offices with lies (such as - it's an emergency we need to speak with this person), threatened to someone besides myself that they are coming to my place of employment to serve me papers, etc.  All of these acts are illegal debt collection acts, most of them i have documented and i also have several witnesses.  I am going to file a complaint with the BBB and the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).  They have violated me long enough.

Oh, and by the way - not a single one of them are attorneys.  Though they try to represent themselves as such.

If there is a class action law suit, I'm in.  I will be following this thread.

I just received a message from this same company stating they were trying to get in touch with a neighbor of mine that didn't exist. After reading this message board I won't even bother returning the phone call. However I will save the message and file a report with the FTC and my states attorneys office.

Just got off the phone with this jerk. Called himself Mark Davis (I think...it was jumbled and fast) from WWR and Assoc. He had left a message on my cell phone which was very obtuse, but he said I needed to call to resolve a case number by the end of the day or he would need to take further action. So I called, recognized his voice and asked him who I was calling and what kind of business it was. He said there were lots of businesses there (an attorney, an accountant --which technically aren't businesses--but I digress.). I told him I was calling about the case number he had given me and had no idea based on his message what the "case" was about. When I told him his message was incomprehensible and sounded threatening and I did not appreciate that,  he got very aggressive and mean and said i needed to resolve this issue with Ms. (jumbled name). I told him I couldn't even understand what he was saying and had never heard of the person he was talking about. He never mentioned a debt, probably because I didn't give him a chance since he sounded COMPLETELY shady from the first word out of his mouth. I told him this sounded like a scam; then, he really got mad and told me I needed to call him back because he wouldn't take being treated like that. (I found that ironic.) I said I would NOT be calling back and, furthermore, was going to block his number from my phone and if he knew what was good for him, he would not try to contact me again. The numbers have been blocked and I hope he gets caught and has to pay for the stress and havoc he is wreaking in people's lives.

My friend has received phone calls from 1-714-263-8626, 1-886-897-9058, and from the following number 1-714-380-58, with different ending digits: 58,57,60,66,67,69,and 73. There are likley more variations. I believe they are cell numbers.

The person(s) that calls have had different names as well : Ed Gruntz, Corey Brown, Wayne Brown, Henry Lee, Chris Meyers, Don Terry, Greg Moroney, Ray Lean, Mr. Durbin, Erica Estrada, Michelle, and Andrea.

I believe that they are working for a debt collecting company called World Wide Recovery (WWR). More than likely none of the names are legit. They call and are soft spoken at times and then VERY aggressive at other times, depending who they get to listen to them. They have credit info., bank account numbers, and other personal info about the person they are trying to collect from. They will call your family members, your workplace, your house phone, or any other way they can find to try to get to you. They will be insulting to try to break you down, and kind to others to try to get more info. about you. If you ask who they work for they won't tell you. Just understand that they can't do anything to you (except harass) regardless of what they say they can or are going to do. They are full of crap! In one case, the man that calls has been telling him for over 9 months that he is going to have papers served to him by a police officer. He just keeps telling the man that he knows where he is and to tell the officer to have proper I.D. when he comes. They just get upset and hang up. I suggest you do the same. They are all bark, no bite.
I'm not defending people that owe debt and are ducking, but to to be insulting, demeaning, and manipulative to get what you want is deplorable. I hope when they are done taking eveyone else's personal inventory, they leave enough room to sign the bottom of the page themselves.
This is how I feel. I could be wrong.

Forgot to add. WWR & Associates has a mailing address listed as 2414 Fairview Ste. 210 Santa Ana, CA 92704, though they have offices in several other states supposedly (some of the Verizon cell phone numbers they call from are out of MN).  The company appears to be headed by part of Rudy Gaba, from the firm Weltman, Weisburg, and Reis.

First, it's clear that you either work for WWR or are in the same business. Nonetheless, you may be right for some cases, but not for others.  I have been getting calls for someone who has the same last name as me but a different first name.  I don't know anyone with the first name that they are giving.  When I first started getting these calls I would tell them that they have the wrong number.  The calls would stop for a couple of weeks and then a different debt collector would start calling, starting the process again.  Obviously, once I told the prior one that they had the wrong number they no longer had any interest in pursuing but when they transferred the file (or whatever they use) to the next collection agency, they didn't bother to tell them that the person who they are looking for is not at this number, so the next agency started calling, then the next, then the next.  This has been going on for many months now.  I don't owe anyone anything (I even pay my credit cards in full each month) but I still get collection calls for someone else.  What goes around comes around?  Well, I'm about to sue these guys.  I have counted a number of violations of the state and federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act as well as a felony (recording my call after I expressly told them I do not consent).  Lets see what's going to "come around" for them when I ask the Court to assess punitive damages, which are permitted in my state.

The rest of your post ("kids", etc.) is absolutely dead wrong.  Not only you didn't "hit it right" but you are so far off base that you are on another planet.  Go back to your WWR phone and try to earn a living after I sue.

By all means you should pursue it, whether by class action or otherwise, but you should be aware of a couple of things about class actions.  I don't know your lawyer and certainly nothing I say refers to him.  But class actions usually don't result in any significant payment to the class members (the people who sue).  Most class actions result to a token "payment" to the class members, often nothing more than some sort of coupon, and perhaps a large amount of legal fees which go directly to the lawyers.  The defendant may also "promise" not to do it again but more often than not, in these types of cases the onwers simply disolve the company that was sued or stop doing business under that name and start up another company which has a similar name but is considered a separate company which is not bound by any promises made by the prior company.  I intend to sue them personally (not as a class action) and to include claims of "alter ego" and "piercing the corporate veil" so I can go directly against the individual owners and the people who are actually making the calls that violate the law.  You might suggest these theories to your lawyer and he may be able to use them, so that WWR and its owners/employees won't be able to hide behind the corporate name.  Also, I believe the Federal Trade Commission regulates debt collectors, so you may want to contact them with a complaint.

The information you have may be valuable to others on this site, including me.  If you paid by check, could you post a copy of the back of the check, where  THEIR information would be (making sure you block anything that has to do with your account) or, if they withdraw the money directly from your account, could you post the information about who the payments are going to, their address if it's there, their bank, their account number (not yours), etc.?
