These type comments are derogatory, unfounded postings made by faceless attackers, making them indefensible, since they refuse to identify themselves, probably, due to fear of prosecution for defamation and/or slander.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time,date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

So what if you are a member in good standing with the NJ Bar. People are complaining about what they consider fraudulent debt collection attempts from calls coming in with your telephone number in the Caller ID, or your business name is the name given by the caller.

Perhaps you want people to record the calls they get from your debt collection business so they can prove to you that YOU have problem employees ? You and your employees better assume your calls might be recorded by the recipients of your calls, because technology makes it trivial to do so. The Court of Public Opinion doesn't consider recording calls from clods to be illegal.

The complaints are roundly concerning business debts, which are outside the FDCPA scope.

I'm pretty sure the FCRA is also concerned solely with consumer credit. Businesses are supposed to be run by big boys and girls who don't need the extra legal protection given to consumers. Certain business debt collectors take unfair advantage of the lack of rules and behave as badly as the consumer debt thugs in Atlanta, Buffalo, and Corona. This is ripe for reform as more people telecommute, freelance, become contractors, and start home businesses.

To all reading this: Many "law firms" in N.J. and America are really just collection agencies who have been purchased by bigger companies to retrieve money from people or corporations. They're {MOSTLY} not actual law firms. You are not in legal risk, and with this law firm, the N.J. branch will just have collections agents call you & harass you. There is no legal anything behind it. There's no lawyers, there's no civil cases, there's no backing to their threats. They're just hired guns who talk a big game. Don't believe some garbage posting that some b.s. 'law firm' copies & pastes repeatedly so you'll be fooled into thinking that they're legitimate.

Fake law firm that collection agency uses, it's all bogus. Just block their number and save yourself time.

We just received a phone call from a very aggressive person, claiming to be a lawyer for debt collection for CenturyLink.  We did not offer any information about our business.  She left a return call number as 732-679-0059, Ext 505.  She called herself "Jill McCarth".

Jill McCarthy  give your correct email address or you will be hearing from the local police and our attorney. Bill is being paid by correct person who owes the bill. You never sent copy on invoice. You have several messages about the invoice we got from the collection agent and it has been sent to correct company.

I keep getting calls from Peter that I owe "overpayment" on my bonuses to the company I left a year ago. It is a pure scam since I contacted my old employer and they told me that we are all clear. I am going to report these guys to the FBI since this is going beyond US borders and this is a pure scam. Somebody is going to jail for this.

Spencer Glenn called me too wanting money for a debt that I have no idea of ! I told them to stop the phone calls or I would look for them. Very un-professional to me too, PLUS they are weak kneed [***] blocking the caller ID,,,,,scammers

They were trying the same scam that Melissa describes but luckily I had googled their number and found this website

They're calling me about some sort of legal action with CenturyLink and something about ProTire? I have no idea, and I have no business of any kind with either three.

They are a scam. They called my company and asked for a company that we used to be associated with and no longer exists (hasn't for 9 years) said they owe for and outstanding FedEx bill... Neither of our companies ever had an account with FedEx and I believe they would have tried to get there money a long time ago if we had. DO NOT give them any personal information as I am sure they will just be selling it to all of the other scam callers, Or outright steeling your money. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!! If you have a real debt with someone straighten it out with the company directly DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!!!!
