- sgt.red.blue.redIt was a survey company from Michigan on my caller i.d. but I had also answered prior to seeing caller i.d. They wanted to speak to the manager, they were doing a utility company survey, i said thanks but no thanks.
Like some of the other bloggers above, I worked for Southwest Research back in the 1980's. I am nice to these folks.
We are on do not call list, but what the hey, I am not hard [***] about.
I have some other survey companies call and they have paid for survey info. No kidding. In cash.- Caller: Michigan

- Mistymetal replies to Patricia Kelley| 3 repliesFor someone with such extreme "mental handicaps"- I haven't seen any spelling or punctuation errors at all. Don't give me your crap.
Soliciters are free to call or send me junkmail. Don't call me every day, don't call me more than once, and if I say I'm not interested DON'T TRY AGAIN EVER! - GrossBaton| 1 replyCalled my home number on a Tuesday mid-day. My Vonage simul-ring sent the call to my office phone where I answered. Woman on the line asked if this was a business phone, and I said yes, and she apologized and hung up. Wonder if this will get me off their call list?
And to Patricia Kelley, while we appreciate you finding a job and not going on welfare, all of the Go F Yourself's still apply while you continue in this job calling people who do not want to be called. Why don't you just start selling drugs or turning tricks, then at least you will make somebody happy. - Don replies to BrendaI went there and they want my email address; instead of phone calls are we opening ourselves to spam?
- AlsaceI subscribe to Caller ID. Anytime I see a name or number I don't know I simply let it go to Voice Mail.
If, by screening the call, it's someone I wish to talk with then I will.
I'm guessing that about 99% of the time any telemarketer/survey/etc will hang up and you can get on with your dinner. If you don't have Caller ID and you're constantly bothered by these unwanted calls, set your phone to go to Voice Mail on the 1st ring and screen ALL your calls.
Sooner or later, the caller will take you off their list if you never answer the phone.- Caller: Market Strategies

- sem replies to Patricia Kelley| 4 repliesPatricia Kelley- You're kidding right? You annoy people for a living and have the audacity to tell them to shove it for reacting. Yes, it's a real job...a real annoying job to all of the people that you call. If you cannot handle people reacting to the unsolicited interruptions then you should find another line of work.
- Mister Microphone replies to They survey --- I gave them feedback| 3 repliesI set my phone to call them back every 15 minutes for 7 days. 24 hours a day.......I have not gotten a call from them since my little phone barrage.
- Miss Manners replies to Patricia KelleyYou can call is legal all you want. I simply asked the person at the other end who they were looking for, they sai, I then said that person was NOT me and to please remove my number from their list. That was 2 months ago, no more calls.
Ok maybe it was me but they pronounced the name wrong so they get what they get. - Research Consultant replies to Patricia KelleyI am a research consultant. A call center person is not a "market research" person. Don't kid yourself. There is no research involved. Call centers are all under the gun to get as many people to start paying them back money in whatever amount using whatever tactics. Most of the people working at these jobs are not formally trained how to deal with people.
- BKeep getting hang up calls from this phone number. I don't know anyone at this research company and I don't have any outstanding bills so QUIT calling me. Never a person on the end when I answer always a recording and I thgn hang up.
- Patricia Kelley| 1 replyThank you CiCi for standing up for us working in the call center insustry and the nice things you wrote about us on this site. What you said is the 100% truth. Freedom of speech is part of the US Constitution and our opinions are very important and yes we are not using the phone to disturb you AT ALL. We would call up on our script and say-"Is it OK to disturb you" and say that. They have silenced the telemarketers already and told them that they cannot sell their products and that is a violation of freed om of speech. Isn't 4-5 million jobs enough to have already canceled in the insustry. That is many many companies that are not paying a dime of business taxes as well as many people who are not working for a company any more and payroll tax for them is not being paid in to the city in which they live in and thus their city has lost lots of money in cuts in programs. Here in Portland where I live the job situation is so bad that they have to cut many services and programs at least 23-30% this year because of the non-existant payroll tax that is not being paid in as well as the schools are going downhill because the people who are not working cannot pay their property tax while they are on unemployment because they do not have the money. If you want to continue to pay my taxes if I do not work then so be it-go right ahead. Market Strategies is not doing anything wrong. I have looked on the internet and the entire 21 years we have been in business not one complaint that was filed against us did they ever prove we did anything wrong whatsoever. Also just so you guys know if I do not work not only do you have to pay my share of taxes but I cannot buy anything hardly which makes other businesses such as restaurants, stores, and the like hardly make any money and have to lay off people and eventually go OUT OF BUSINESS. CICI you hit the nail right on the head with all the good things you say. If we were violating any law then we would of had tons of complaints with the passage of the Do NOT Call list law in September of 2003 and there has not been a single complaint ever filed since then if you search the internet. It is freedom os speech to do these surveys and if you do not want to do them just tell us that is all you have to say rather than yelling, screaming, and acting like total [***] when we call you. We do not have to take your abuse and WE DON"T EVER....

- Patricia Kelley replies to sem| 3 repliesSir just so you know we do not call at all to say "Is it OK to annoy you"? We would call to say just that when we call. Our surveys are protected under the US constitution and have been for years and years. It comes under FREEDOM of SPEECH as CICI says on this site. The DO NOT CALL laws protect us for a Reason. We are not selling anything or telemarketing at all or trying to annoy people or basically not doing anything wrong or illegal or trying to sell a worthless product. Again if you want to pay my taxes, force all call center people to go and lie, cheat and steal to get by and of course not be able to buy much and have all the stores, restaurants and places of businesses fail then go ahead and keep complaining about a law that will never change and has not changed and the government will not change when you have the worst depression that has happened since the 1930's. 7 million people almost do not have a job and when people do not work they do not pay regular taxes or property taxes which makes all the schools fail as well as services like bus service and state and federal services have to lay people off. In the town I live in the public transit sytem has to make a 24% cut in everything because when people do not work no payroll tax is being paid in for them and thus no one has any money for services for the city, state or county.Again we are not just calling people to say "is it OK to bug you". This is important research and call center people need jobs unless you want to keep paying double taxes for me if I do not work. Again be abusive to someone else because we will just laugh at you and no matter how mean, rude, nasty or whatever you are to us won't change the law ever.

- CarolWoamn caller said her call was a University of Michigan Survey. I said that no one here was a graduate of the University of michigan and that we were on the Do NOT CALL list. Next she said that the Do Not Call List did not apply to her , and that she was condutcing a suvery. Then I said hurry it up, and she said M'am this and M'sam that-- and I said in a loud angry coice, "Give me your Speil." there was no reply, so I hung up; dialed *57 and traced the call! I then dialed * 69 to cibfrun the number,. My caller ID did not immediatley identify the caller until long after I had hung up and dialed *69, at which point my caller ID reveled Market Stratgeies. Market Stratgeis and University of Michigan are two entirely different entities!
I don't understand the previous remakrs concerning how this is legitmate government research etc, and other remakrs concerning detecting welfare fraud etc. My husband is the sole bread winner; he pays our joint income taxes. No one in this household receives social security of SSI or anything except occasional tax refunds from the federal government.
My widowed meother hwo lives in another county stayed with me for several moths in 2005 after my father died. Unfortunately, like a complete idiot, although she was not changing her domicle, she had the feds mail all kinds of federal information for her to my address. None of the info pertained to a social security check , or any checks issued by the federal government. However, she had a lot of government correspondence sent to her at my home address. She does not reside in my house. I do not know why she insisted upon having mail which normally would have gone to her at her home in another county, over 150 miles away, sent to her at my home address. Her mail at home had been stopped and not forwarded to my present residence. However, all she did was spend almost on her time on the telephone calling various federal agencies and having countless amounts of information sent to my home address. Once in a while, some kind of government correspondence still turns up at my house, and I dutifully take that correspondence to her and encrouage her to contact the sender or said agency and inform the agency to send said correspondence to her home residence.
I don't know why my mother pulled this particular shenanigan because I made it clear at the time that she could stay, and thatt she could not move -in to live with me. She has a lovely spacious house of her own 150 miles way; friends and neighbors and organizaitions in whcih she is interested located 150 miles away; and she can drive safely in that community 150 mile away. During the second month she stayed with me, and I was recovering at the time from a dislocated shoulder, partially caused by a swimming accidnet, but precipitated from having to catch her as she fell on me twice at my home after wandering about after having taken Ambien at bedtime, she drove a large sedan which my husband and I ownded into a busy intersection which we told her specifically to avoid, en route back to my house after grocery shopping for me-- and acitvity which she did not need to engage in either because my husband always brings home my groceries after I give him a shopping list. A grocery store is en route home from where my husband works. However, my mother had to drive to another grovery store, approximately 20 miles away from where I live. ( We have closer stores nien miles away!) At any rate, she drove into the intersection which my husband and I told her to avoid, against all advice and pleading not to drive there, and not to go grocery shopping in the first place, and totaled my car!
My mother is very hard headed. I cannot do anything at all to control her. I see her on a regular baisis at her home anyway, usally at least every month if not every other week, and yet she insists upon visiting me even when her visit is inconventient for both my husband and me-- but that is just an aside.
At any rate, I dont know why I should have been so blessed by a telephone survey from the Unviersity of Michigan or from Market Survey.
I don't owe taxes to anyone; my mother is not on welfare but on social security; however, her social security checks have never arrived at this residence-- in fact I think that her social security checks and other government checks are all directly deposited into her bank account.
Beyond that, and regardless of what another person may have said about the government authorizing this Market Survey to harass people, I do not have the foggiest notion as to why I was just recently called by this outfit after 6;30 p.m.. Although the previous respondent said it was useless to report this outfit to the Do NOT CAll List folks, I intend to report them, and report them to my congressman as well. Persoanlly, I think that all similar telephone callers regardless of supposed intent and purposes are all a bunch of Gypsy scam artists anyway. Next time, I will not engage in any any attempted conversation-- it's futile anyway. I will simply hang-up after the next similar caller identifies himself or herself!- Caller: University of Michigan Survey
- koreyI refuse to give out any details or answer questions from ANY company that calls me cold. Too many scams and crime to be naive enough to answer questions no matter how innocuous seeming they may be.
I resent the fact their request for info to place you on their do not call list demands an email address.

- korey| 6 repliesFree speech doesn't give ANYONE The right to barge into someone's home and demand their time.
And it isn't FREE when I pay for the phone service.
Alleged employees hang around here looking for why people complain about the number they call from?
I think not...........MS stay off my phone and stop wasting my time. - GeoI find it interesting that for a "market research" company that they keep calling over and over again. I thought market research was randomly talking to people not calling the same people over and over again. I got 3 of their calls on a Sat AND Sun.

- Tom replies to Brenda| 1 replyIf they are conducting surveys, then why do they hand up every time I answer? They call at least 6 times per day and when I answer, they hang up. If I don't answer, they don't leave a message. What's the point in their calling?
- MunchDidn't know this phone number nor did I want to talk to anyone at this number so I didn't answer the phone. I'm glad I didn't answer because now I know it is a survey or telemarketing person and I don't want bothered by them.

- Patricia Kelley replies to moose| 16 repliesYou can do this all you want to M Microphone. But this number only reaches a voice mail box in Livonia Michigan and there is a recording there. No one answers that phone. So you do this and you will have a massive phone bill AT YOUR EXPENSE. What an undeducated person that you are. Just so you know the DO NOT CALL law has not changed in 6 1/2 years and when we are having the worst DEPRESSION since the 1930's I do not think the government is going to change a law that is not doing any thing illegal in the first place and giving good people jobs and if we do not work you will have to pay our taxes and our welfare and our food. How do you like that? Is having all the call center jobs shut down a good thing. I do not think so. All someone has to say is I do not want to do the survey or do not call me any more. Most companies do not have inbound call lines that show up on caller id just so you know so your little trick means nothing to the average large Market Research firm. Boy I hate to see your phone bill.
