Called Cell, no VM

they accused me of intentionally defrauding the wfs that i had no intention of paying this debt, which by the way is 8 years ago and past the statute of limitations.  told them to stop calling and send me the proof of the debt by producing the note, they said the would call me as much as they wanted untill i payed back this debt.  Is any one interisted or is there a class action suit started against portfolio recovery, because i think we should.

They asked for my mom. said they were debt colectors for capital one and for southwestern bell. She has never had anything with those 2 companies.
They wanted me to giver her birth date info, so i told them i will not, then i told them to just give me the birth month they have for her, it was totally wrong. They said they will keep calling again to collect debt.
She owes nothing to those companies, has never done business with them.

Oh and by the way southwestern bell, they no longer exist in my area.

I believe people are looking at this the wrong way.

Yes, these guys are bottom-feeding scum, but they are also in business to make money.  With that in mind, one could expect their return on investment is based on the volume of calls they make.

The more calls, the more likely they can sucker someone into paying.

So if you can slow down their ability to harass people, it directly impacts their bottom line.   Next time they call, ANSWER the phone and let them hear silence after saying hello (to ensure the auto-dialer connects to a representative) or jerk them around as long as they will let you.  I have heard of people giving the phone to their 2 year old children. =D

Hanging up doesn’t help since the auto-dialer will just call the next person.  By answering the phone, it ties up the bottom-feeder and robs them of precious time.  They might have auto-dialers that can call many lines at once, but they have a limited about of people to answer those calls.

The other option is to wait them out until they go away.  There is a limit on how long they will continue calling before giving up and moving on to new people to bother.

So I suggest the following, use your cell phone as your contact number.  I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but I have a good reason for this.  Once they start calling your phone, store the phone number as a contact with a name as “Do Not Answer” and set the ringer to silent for that contact!

From then on, all they will get is your voicemail, and those messages can be quickly deleted.

If you don’t want to give out your cell phone number, there are voicemail only lines you can use for credit card signups and the like. Good luck!

These slimeballs have started calling here now on a daily basis too. We do not have debts on anything, outstanding or otherwise.

They are also using the number  866-418-8102.

Are the FTC, FCC and attorney generals offices worth a dang any more??? Or do they just collect their government paychecks while they sit around eating donuts?

How screwed up is it that the country is so rampant with fraud that households can't even answer their danged phones anymore???

I have been receiving 1 or 2 calls a day from number, 1-757-961-3546, with caller id "Norfolk VA". No message is left. Fortunately, I have not answered, and will block the number.

No name, no message

I have no idea why I would get calls as I am current on all payments and have never settled old debt or defaulted on anything or any such thing. The calls come through in the morning and all my caller i.d. says is Norfolk.  I am not home when they call, and even if I were, I never answer calls from numbers I do not recognize. They never leave a message, either. I am sure this is some sort of scam.

These people call several times a day. Portfolio Recovery is very annoying they call early morning and late night and all during the day. I have been disturbed at work when I am trying to have class. Several people will call the same day and insist to talk.

It's 4:20pm and i have never seen this number before and they couldn't leave me a voicemail i have a unlisted number for home and for the life of me i never give my cell number out and thats what i got this call on thanks for all the info i have no clue as to who  or why they would call me

Much as I would like to settle my debts, this one is olllllld, circa mid-1980's.  How they got my cell number is what I'd like to know.

They change phone numbers every so often.  Since I use my cell phone for business, if I see a number I don't recognize I let it roll over into voicemail -- Portfolio Recovery Service never leaves a voicemail message, but a legitimate business will.  And those ones I can call right back.

If I'm in doubt, I RNL the number through Google (and usually get this page because it's these people).  If I'm out in the field, I'll call the number back; if it IS PRS, the phone is answered by a recording saying who they are!

Any and all numbers PRS uses to attempt to contact me, I save in my Address Book under the name DON'T ANSWER.  That way they don't get to me  8)

Don't forget, it's YOUR phone!  Feel free to answer, say "F'koff", and hang up.  Hours of amusement  8)

You can search the "Clerks Information System" for this company. It lists all the officer/Directors names and the company address: 120 Corporate Blvd Ste 100. The Corp ID number is: F152962-9. well i have sent a letter to PRA i know they got it on the 23th as i have a receipt. got a call this morning hope they keep calling as im going to sue the crap out of them!! i did call them back just long enough to hear there recording, anyone who has not should send a letter to them

this is a good letter if there calling you bout someone else

got call from them, listed as Norfolk, Va.  He was asking for my neighbor. When i told him they didn't live here, he asked if I knew them.  He got testy when i told him that i wouldn't share that info with him.

Receive calls from this # at least 3X/week ~ get them OUTTA here!!

Rec'd call, answered before I saw it was this number - Portfolio Recovery Associates - had a credit account on my husband (supposedly) from 1999 from a store we've never bought from... I refused to give new address as they had an old one & stated statute of limitations... they kept trying to get money from us. Won't answer again.
