Received call from 757-961-3546, answered the call with my name and there was no voice on the other end what-so-ever.  I think the people that lived in my house over 3 years ago had lots of bad debt.  But I don't and don't know why they would be calling my house - 3 years later.

The latest call can in from these jerks yesterday, Nov.13th, 1:31PM(EST) As with my previous 3 entries, I have received numerous calls that I do not answer. I feel there must be some kind of way these calls can be automatically traced linking them straight to a connection where they have to be legally identified (such as licensing as a legitimate business), If they can't be validated, their lines should be immediately shut down. And also, as I mentioned before, the credit bureaus can put a program together
that is designed to enable the consumer to re-establish their credit without waiting several years for the reported debt to drop off once the dept is paid.

When I answered the phone, (before checking caller ID) there was a pause then a female asked for Melissa.  When I said no Melissa lives here, she said okay and hung up.

I've never received a call from this number until today.  I don't owe Capital One and never have.  I don't know why collection agencies bother trying to collect anything these days with half of the population out of work and have little or no money at all, and no jobs to be found.  People are losing their houses and cars, you think they give a crap about a collection agency.  They really should be outlawed, and the originator of the debt made to deal with the person instead of turning it over to a collection agency.  If they weren't such cowards, they would have the name of their company on the caller I.D.  Not this Unknown Number crap.

Eureka......I found it. (for cox phone service, not ATT yet). It's called "selective call rejection". Cox offers a service to reject calls from up to  31 phone numbers. After entering the offending number....lets say 757 961 3546, Cox will send them to the land of ignore. There is a god.

Thanks for the information. Just a note: I would not take legal advice from a person or site which refers to a "statute of limitations" as a "statue of limitations".

They call from multiple numbers:  3546, 3547, 3548 are some I've received so far.  Glad the cell phone ID's the numbers, making it so easy NEVER to answer.

These calls from 1-757-961-3546 started the day after Christmas (Sunday) 2009 at 8am pst and continued until 7:32pm pst.  A lady speaking so fast says she is calling from Portfolio Recovery Services (on my voicemail) and also says that by me listening to the message means I accept the debt.  I have no clue where the debt is from.  I want them to stop it is annoying.  If they are truly a fake company then this should have been dealt with by the government long ago.

12/29/09 1st the caller identified me by my first name andf did not state what company she was calling from, nor did she give her name. i rec'd a call saying there was a past due debt on my mastercard for $400. I told her i have never had a mastercard.  She said that I would have to verify info they have since i have to prove that this is not my debt. I told her she called me, I have no way of knowing who she is, so I'm not giving her any info.  She stated she was going to try to help me but since im not cooperating her law firm is going to go after me for this debt.  I told her do what she has to do and hung up.

Thank goodness for Caller ID.  I never answer any number I do not recognize.  I've assigned the CSI Theme (Who Are You) to anyone not in my phone book.

Have received repeated phone calls from this number.  I know it is a collection agency and they are looking for the previous owner of my cell number.  I have told them repeatedly that person no longer has this cell number, but the calls continue.

Hi there, just so you know, collection agencies are NOT allowed to call you at your place of work if you tell them to stop calling you there.
When they call you at work, you merely need to tell them ONCE never to contact you at work again and then legally they cannot do so--if they do, they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Yes, this is Portfolio Recovery from Norfolk, Va, they have about 30 or 40 different 800 numbers they use.  I never answer my phone for any 800 number any more because it always seems to be a collection agency.  I am not that deep in debt.  But, I had a vehicle repossessed in 2006, and Portfolio is trying to get some money from me for this debt because it was not paid off.  And, since I live by myself, I just do not answer the phone. From other posts I've seen, they are really nasty and mean.  They even tried to call a neighbor of mine across the street.  And, I found out that agencies cannot call your neighbors, it is against the law.  So, if you can keep from answering the phone, there's nothing they can do.  They can't call past 9 pm and they can't call til 8 a.m. in whatever time zone you are in.  They just called me a minute ago, and I just don't answer the phone.  And, don't you answer either.  Just keep your cool, and this will make them madder.  Tell people in your household not to answer any 800 number or 888 number or 866 number or whatever.  Take care, Sheba

    Crystal,
If you see this, here in TN, when a vehicle is repossessed and even though they sell it at auction (as they did mine), if it wasn't enough to pay off the loan, then they can still have up to 6 years to collect.
But, now, I am on disability and they cannot garnish my disability check or my VA check (Veterans Administration).  This is my sole income.  The only way these 2 checks can be garnished is for a student loan, or IRS, or back child support.  Well, since I am a female, I don't have any child support.  I do have an old student loan and that is being taken care of.  So, see what your state says, there was a list somewhere under the fair credit act showing what states allow collections for how ever many years.

I was just laid off 12=17=09 from my employer after over 5 years of employment due to budget constaints.  Now, for over 5 years,  I have paid to each credit card I have a service fee for each month that protect me if I become unemployed. Well within the past two days this number has been received over 15 times on my caller ID.  I am not deliquent in any of my bills, and am not in any jeopardy in becoming deliquent, but what concerns me is that I am now exerciseing my right to use my credit protection service that I have paid faithfully for over 5 years and when I exercise my right the credit cards are coming after me.  BU__SH_T
