- lawmomThese people call almost everyday. I also believe they have used other numbers. These people call and ask, "when do you plan to make a payment?" I ignore them and get their mailing address. If you respond to the question, you can unknowingly reactivate the statute of limitations on an old debt. If you reactivate the statute of limitation they can sue you. Just send them a do not call letter, return receipt and once they receive it they have to stop calling. Even if they stop calling after a verbal request to discontinue, they can start calling again if they want because you did not put it in writing.
- JulesCalled "cell phone" - leaves no message but when I answer asks for someone I do not know but they continue to call even after I have told them that person does not have that number. Thanks for the addresses to send these folks a cease and desist letter since they are using my cell phone minutes illegally. I don't have any idea where they got my number or why they are calling but they continue to call and ask for the wrong person.

- AlfalfaOctober 2009 Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC Bogus 1099C Game Looks like PRA is playing the (highly illegal) 1099C game...a lot! It's time to beat them at their own game! They are intent on using the IRS to collect on what they claim are 'legitimate, validated debts', and laughing all the way to the bank...again. Not anymore. I predict a HUGE class action lawsuit coming down the pike, and hopefully this will put the nails in their stinking coffin once and for all. Since they cannot properly validate or prove validation on most (if not all) accounts they have already received a FULL tax break on, the same IRS they’re using to collect can AUDIT PRA as a result and see how they have pulled another ENRON scam. Paying pennies for paper and then charging off your falsely inflated value is not legal, sorry PRA! DO NOT pass GO, DO NOT collect ANY DOLLARS! GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL! Any credit agencies that have turned a blind eye to 'validation' should also be named in the class action suit. How about it NACA lawyers, others? David can truly topple Goliath with one stone if he just picks it up...

- Jim replies to Steven D FredricksonHey Steven,
You are the idiot here because you have a staff who calls my number day and night trying to collect debt from someone who does not live here, which should be obvious from the name given on my outgoing answering machine message. You need to actually TRAIN your people to LISTEN to the messages, CHECK the current registered user of the phone number they are calling, and respect the DO NOT CALL federal laws. You can no more collect unpaid debt for someone else by calling me than you can collect it from Santa Claus. If you want his number, just give me a call! - Debtor?Collector calling my cell-44,45,46,48 last 2 to number. PIA

- the internet is a wonderful thing replies to Steven D FredricksonAnyone who wants to can find anything - Including the FACT the Missouri AG has sued Portfolio and Steven for their illegal debt collection practices.
For those who wish to do so because you have been needlessly harrassed by PRA' illegal collection tactics and ploys - just copy the URL of this thread and send to the Missouri AG's offices -as well as you own State Attorney General so they have proof of Steven's threats made in a public forum.

- NevadaBeen calling me for about a week now. Haven't answered.
- ChrisThey call and when the answering machine picks up, they hang up. Lets face it, you cant harrass an answering machine as it will record what you say.
- JCThey tried calling today, and as of course when I said "Hello" there was dead silence. I said "HELLO?" again, louder. Then, they said "Hello?" as if I were the one that called THEM. I said AGAIN "YES? HELLO? Can I help you?" This young lady then asked for my husband by his first name. She sounded very young. Because she asked for him by his first name only, and sounded so young and rude, I thought it was perhaps my 16 year old stepdaughter calling for her dad. She isnt very close to either of us, and has terrible phone manners, and lives out of state. I just told them, no he was NOT home, may I take a message? She said "When will he be home?" I replied "About 2, maybe?" she said "okay, thanks, bye". My stepdaughter and her mother recently moved to Maryland, and I have NO idea what their new number is, so, after we hung up, I looked the number up online, and that's when I found THIS. I called it back to confirm it was what everybody said it was, and hung up as soon as the recording told me it was an attempt to collect a debt. Real tricky way to ask for someone, by first name and so casually, as if you were a friend of theirs...

- Mara Fredrickson| 1 replyThis is some of the good work i do - please don't forget this. Thank you my friends! :)
On June 10, 2008, Mara Fredrickson opened her beautiful home to host the annual Tocqueville Society Women’s Leadership Council Luncheon. Women gathered to learn more about the lasting impact philanthropy has made in the lives of women and children in South Hampton Roads. Grace Orsini, trainer in Prevention and Intervention of Domestic Violence, drew upon her thirty years of experience to speak of the need for community outreach and agency support.
After enjoying lunch with friends and contemporaries, attendees had the option to stay and enjoy a floral presentation by Lasting Impressions Florist. The program included a hands-on demonstration using native flowers grown in your own backyard. Many thanks to all who attended and participated in order to make this event a success.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery Associates
