i get at least 2 or 3calls a day that IS HARRASTMENT in my book please have someone look in to this and stop these calls

These people have called 5-6 times now.  All the other times I wasn't home or sleeping(called at 8:10 am) when they called so the answering machine answered and they did not leave a message.

This time I answered and they asked for someone that doesn't even live here.  I told the woman that and to please take me off of her list.  She said "I just have the wrong number and I don't have a list, and I WILL be calling back"

I then told her that no, she wouldn't and that I was reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission and my state Attorney General's office which I just got done doing.  I guess I'll have to send a cease and desist letter tomorrow too.

To anyone being harassed I suggest you do the same.  If the woman that just called me is reading this then have fun knowing that YOU just caused a complaint and more heat to your scumbag company, you might even get to keep your job through Christmas, but probably not.

Attorney General Koster takes action against fraudulent debt collectors

--Koster says businesses tried to collect debts people didn't owe--

St. Louis, Mo. - Attorney General Chris Koster today filed suit against two debt collection companies that are operating scams to collect debts from citizens who do not owe the money.

Koster filed law suits in St. Louis against Portfolio Recovery Associates, a public company based in Virginia, and Professional Debt Management located in Kansas City.

Koster said Portfolio buys old and bankruptcy-discharged debt, often from another bad debt buyer, and then tries to collect, sometimes through court action. He said the company often is attempting to collect on accounts that are already paid or have been discharged in bankruptcy; sometimes they try to collect from the wrong consumer or for the wrong amounts. He said the company has threatened to garnish consumers' social security checks, which they have no authority to do, and has refused to provide consumers with proof that the debt is valid.

Koster said Professional Debt Management uses scare tactics, leaving messages on consumers' phones that there is an emergency. He said that like Portfolio, they attempt to collect on accounts already paid or from the wrong party.

"The Attorney General's office intends to take aggressive action to protect Missouri consumers," Koster said. "I am asking the court to issue a permanent injunction prohibiting these companies from violating consumer protection laws and to order that they provide full restitution to the people they have harmed."

Koster also is asking that the court impose monetary penalties and require the companies to pay all court costs.

Just telling them to stop doesn't mean they have to.  In a perfect world telling them to stop calling once would be enough.  You (and anyone else being harassed) should send a cease and desist letter -certified- to them to make them legally stop calling you.  If you really do owe money then in your C&D letter insist that they provide proof that you owe the debt.

It seems that these scumbags buy up very OLD unenforceable debts and try to scare people into paying.

These people call my cell 20 times a day i picked up once yesterday i do not want to say anything because i believe these people will probably pin a false debt on me, I'm 14 i don't even have a credit card yet, why do they continue to call my cell phone?

THEY KEEP CALLING ASKING FOR A LATASHA ALLEN.  I HAVE TOLD THEM LATASHA DON.'T STAY HERE! THEY SAY THEY WILL REMOVE MY NUMBER , BUT THEY DON'T.

I just got my phone bill and seen this number on it as a long distant call I made 757 961 3548. I could figure out who in Norfolk, Va I called. It happen to be like you said here a collection agency. I remember it now they were calling for some lady that I don't know and never has lived here. I've had my phone number for over 15 years. I think she most have gave them my number when she applied for credit and obviously defaulted. Anyway I called them back to see who they were ect... I explained I'm not the person they are looking for they said ok. I don't know if that means they are going to take my number off there list. I think I went ahead and put them in my blocked list (which is a extra service I purchased from the phone co). Anyway if you call that number back expect to get long distant charges from doing so.
