Had a missed call at 1:25 am on my Google Voice number. Donk needs a life!

sid they had a package from New Jersey

Some kind of scam artist called me from this number claiming to be with microsoft. Wanted to access my computer blablabla. Scam.

i got a call from 'ammyy' last night. first guy, claimed he was working at a sister corporation for microsoft. he kept me on the phone for a few mins then said he would have someone else call back with more information...second call i got was from from someone claiming his name was BOB GARRET yet he is clearly of hindi origin. how many accented indians do u know with a western name??? he claimed i had 78 viruses in my computer...weird since i do a scan every 2 hours...[[[yes ive always been this paranoid]]]. well he had me on the phone, he said that i would need to remove viruses from all the layers within my computer and purchase from him microsoft virus removal, microsoft hard disc platter recovery software, a licensed version of firewall, a ready start version of avast and hire a microsoft "engineer" to clean it out completely.

a few mins after i was speaking with hindi BOB he put his "supervisor" on the phone (weird how very alike all three indians appeared in voice)... anyway....

hindi BOB's "supervisor" told me that if i dont rectify this issue within 3 hours (yep thats right - [***] gave me a time limit) my computer would die. wow!!!! dramatic...
he said he would send me the downloaded programs all he would need is my credit card information... i told him i have no credit cards so he asked if i had a family member who could lend me their cards......AS IF!!!!!! he also asked for my cell number or a family members number.

since i have no credit cards, he asked if i have debit and paypal. he would gladly send me the programs and would collect the payment when it was due to go through via paypal from my bank.

these ppl need to be stopped!!!! i am in canada and sadly no one here has the authority to do anything about this scam. there are many naive ppl in the world who would without a thought give away their hard earned cash to these b@st@rds. i only hope they have someone who can save them from such cruelty.

i already have windows defender (came installed on computer), firewall (paid for download), eastlink virus protection (paying monthly fee), and anti malware protection (paid for in store)...so i know very well what is on my computer.
the number BOB GARRET phoned me from was 1-760-705-8888...after hanging up the phone i tried calling him back... surprise surprise i couldnt get through...

ps i did put the 760 705 8888 number on block but how they got thru i have NO IDEA!!! i had a message on my voice mail from that same number... granted it was just a hang up call but still.... anyway, be careful ppl

pps that enormous post from john on december 5, 2010 is so full of SH*T!!!! the calls are not coming from google... google does not call and scam ppl about different things such as virus protection, hydro and yes even to sell baby products (my cousin got THAT call)...upon comparing notes we learned they all shared the SAME FRIGGEN NUMBER - 1- 760-705-8888... be VERY VERY CAUTIOUS PPL!!!!!

my younger sis got a call from that same number a few months back..they were very concerned about the amount of viruses and spyware in her computer and asked for her credit information to send her the necessary programs to clean her computer for her...

suffice it to say, my sister was greatly confused seeing that she doesnt even own a computer... granted her son does but it is used strictly for his STORE BOUGHT GAMES and is not even hooked up to the internet....

she played with the hindi woman for as long as she could before finally telling her off....

its getting worse ppl.... these scum, i believe, have the ability to hack your computers....
why i think that is, is because while i was speaking with hindi BOB, my anti malware was flipping out...
the little window that normally pops up steadily like once or twice every few mins [[and reads 'successfully blocked access to a potentially malicious website: [insert ip address here] type: incoming. port: 29774. process: utorrent.exe.]] was flash dancing for the whole time i was on the phone with hindi BOB.  be super careful ppl.

I just got a call from this number and my caller I.D. said "PRANK CALLER".

Received a call from this number, my caller ID says it is from Escondido CA. The guy on the line, with a thick south Asian accent, told me there was something wrong with my computer (which was not on). He didn't make a lot of sense so I hung up. I went down and turned on my PC. It fired up and when it went live on the internet, the system shut down.... bnad. RAM shot, hard drive shot, registries totally erased. Went out and bought several more firewwalls so this SOB doesn't do it to me again

This guy called my work (smoothie king) and was persistent on receiving my cell phone number, to deliver some free hats and shirts from corp. but i did not give him the number, and i asked which corp. office he was located out of, we only have one, and he said Austin Texas, and our corp. office is in Louisiana, he laughed and i hung up

Reading the posts I see that the Indians and Arabs already go this number for their funny purposes. Who's next? the Nigerians, Mexicans, Colombians?

The caller id said it was from "PRANK CALLER" and they called twice. 12:29am and 12:31am. I work the night shift and my hubby shuts the ringer off to the phone upstairs. But they really need to stop! I am registered with the Nat'l Do Not Call list and it seems since I have registered with them I am getting more and more stupid calls! Things that make you go "Hmmm."

Man saying he was stranded in Ontario, in jail for getting picked up with others who had drugs.   Wanted bail money.

Won't even talk when they call, all they do is push buttons! They call over and over. It's very aggrivating. What is it?!

Guy calls up, I hear a lot of static on the line, and finally he says hello. He's got a thick [***]-Indian accent and mumbles something about whether I want some service or other.

Couldn't understand him and didn't want to proceed. Just said I didn't think I needed his service and hung up. I have no idea what all the Google G-Mail stuff is that people have reported. This is some idiot line any scammers can use? They just pass it around and pester people on the phone or on their computers?

Big waste of time. What cretins stay on the phone when stranger-moron-jerks like this start babbling?

Got this call number as well.  He said his name was John form the Health Department and that he was going to come on Monday to inspect my restaurant.  I've already been inspected and I know my Health Department inspector.  So, I told him that I was going to have the Police Department here to verify his health permit number.  He hung up.

Caller was east Indian, said they were investigating reports of "bad" internet calls originating from my computer. They wanted me to give them a few minutes to "fix the problem". When I asked them for the name of my ISP they were unable to provide it. I suggested they were a fraudulent enterprise and hung up!
