Just got this call from this number 770-462-2198  Portfolio Recovery  but that name uses other numbers and they call often.  I don't answer any when I see that name but area code 770 is in Georgia but they call from other states, too.  Scammer is what I believe they are because people say they are a debt collector but I don't have any debts that I have never paid for.

This number keeps calling my sister and she repeatedly said NO! They would call my house every day.

They ask the question "can you hear me". That's what has been warned about on the news as a scam to get you to say "yes" and then it's used against you in identity theft. JUST HANG UP AND SAY NOTHING!!!

I noticed that a lot of un-wanted callers call from the same area code. For this, I recommend a call blocker that can block by Area Code as well as by regular numbers. In that way I save on storing a lot of numbers. Also, I'm not annoyed as much. I use the CPR V202 Call Blocker and it's great for that. Some callers are able to call by spoofing a number. I just enter whatever number that appears on my caller ID. One person even called my house with my own home phone number displayed on my caller ID, so I ended up blocking my own land line. When people call that I have blocked, my phone rings once only and then hangs up!

The latest number for Portfolio Recovery. The usual stupid opening line of "I've got you on a recorded line" as an attempt to intimidate. Everytime I think I have all their numbers blocked they purchase a new block of lines and go scamming. They are are complete scum.

I guess my only question would be, why should I go through all that when Portfolio Recovery is clearly breaking the law.  If they're trying to collect a legitimate debt...which they're not...then they have a specified period of time, either one or two weeks, from their first attempt to contact me, to send me a letter detailing all the particulars of the debt they claim I owe.  Portfolio Recovery has been calling me for months from numerous numbers, and I've never received any correspondence from them by USPS.  My call blocker blocks their annoying calls and there's nothing they can do about it.

    1. Because you would be standing up for your rights.
    2. Because Portfolio has at least a thousand numbers they can call from.
    3. Because if you do nothing, then you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
    4. Because you get paid money when you stand up to them.  Of course if you are independently wealthy and do not need the money I guess that one is moot.
    5. Because you would be helping others by impacting the companies bottom line which is already taking a beating from all the law suits and fines, and the 82 Million Dollar judgement awarded to a woman in Kansas.
    6. Because people that complain and do nothing to help themselves have no valid reason for complaining.

I'm sure I could come up with more, but I doubt you will even read this, let alone do anything more than complain about the calls.

Stop shouting asinine demands to a website that isn't making any calls and has no idea who you are.

I blocked the number with this ID at the beginning of this week.  Now they've called again this morning.  Apparently they are a debt collection agency?  I do not have any outstanding debt.  There is no reason this organization should be calling my home.  I'll keep letting their calls go to the answering machine and blocking the number they use.

Why give them information they do not have (sending a letter)? They have called me for over 10yrs. I have never owed so, I just ignore the caller id. I do not rely on that line for calls so they are calling a phone with the ringer off. I look up to see who and what new scam if I am board for a few minuets. Best to never stir the pot just let it burn. They wont go away they are aggressive scammers they have so many numbers and they have been sued many times. Let them play out their game they will be in court soon.

Getting calls from 770-462-2198 also 954-624-8593 both numbers are from Portifolio Recovery they leave no message I do not owe anyone my bills are always paid as soon as I get them I'm thinking these are the same people that called about two year ago claiming we owed money on a car we never bought I told them what I thought of them and hung up on them they never called back.   Like one of the others that commented I've also gotten calls from my own phone number. I'm thinking very seriously about disconnecting my landline phone and only turning my cell phone on when I need to make a call and my family can contact me on messenger if they need to talk to me.

These folks are now taking to retaining local attorneys as an extension of the harassment directed at you. I have gotten 2 calls out of nowhere from local attorneys I have never done business with let alone call for an inquiry. I am not answering them. 5 mins after the second try, i got call from this number. No message left. Court website shows no legal actions being taken. I checked because I know I live in a Default Judgement area (look it up-its important to know this) and was victimized 2 years ago. Only lawyers I speak to unsolicited are the ones representing me.

Don't change your number. They will locate you and your work number. I did receive 2 letters from them. because its been so long ago, they cannot sue me but will continue collection efforts (non-aggressive) to clear the debt. It's a very old debt.

Portfolio Recovery.  Again.  This is a robocalling predator that always asks for the wrong person when I make the mistake of picking up the phone without checking Caller ID first.  It's become a joke.  They have been harassing me for several years now.

They are a debt buyer based in Norfolk, Virginia and I firmly believe that is their only office.  The call center that harasses everyone on their lists runs robocalls through  many different cities and states, and they hire attorney's who specialize in debt collection.  One call from them and you should start looking up your court record in the state you live in.  The attorneys they hire never file lawsuits in the county you live in, that is how they get secret judgments against their prey without them knowing.  So do a thorough search for the entire state you reside in.

Good luck and remember----if it's not a phone number you recognize----DON'T ANSWER!!!

I live in a Default Judgement area as well.  Thanks for posting that information so that others can avoid PRA and not get suckered into actually paying off a 30-year-old $25.00 debt.  What a waste of time.
