It's a numbers game. They use autodialers and they dial thousands of numbers at a time. It costs them nothing to do it so even if they reel in 2% of the people they call that's all they need.

8/31/2015 from the caller 1/786-708-4154, C.I.D. name "Miami, FL".

Sorry, you jerks calling me incessantly [and no, I OWE NO ONE!] I do not know anyone by the name "Miami, FL"  nor do I know anyone with that phone number. Therefore you will NEVER have your calls picked up by ME.

Yes, I just received another of the multiple-calls DAILY at all hours of the day and night [also considered harassing and illegal] from the creepy stalker voiced male(s) who keep calling & have thick Indian accents; they just keep repeating "hello, hello, hello, hello" on the voice mail messages, but never identify themselves, their company, or leave a message, nor state the nature of their call -- which means that they are scammers and/or up to NO GOOD!

Anyone with legitimate business and credentials would leave an actual message, including valid contact information and the nature of their reason for calling.

Since I'm verified as registered on every available "DO NOT CALL" LIST (what a joke THOSE are!) these scam-type calls that do nothing but call repeatedly [nuisance calls that disturb and interrupt the household], it means that these jerks are continuing to break every law there is related to do-not-call lists and using the phones to harass persons by unsolicited calls.  I will never pick up a call from an anonymous caller ID, an unrecognized phone number, etc.  But they still call repeatedly.  I have added as many unwanted numbers as will fit on the very limited 30-maximum blocked numbers from my handset [I now get at least that many per DAY when I once rarely got even a wrong number dialed once in six months. My joke of a utility provider -- Verizon FIOS allows even fewer numbers blocked. How worthless is THAT!?'

Makes one wonder if every company even remotely associated to all these constant unwanted phone calls/callers, who are allowed to trespass right into our private homes via the phone line, just as an intruder doing "Breaking & Entering" would kick down your door, or toss a brick at a window to gain access to do you bodily harm, or steal your valuables [in this case, your valuable data/information to be sold  to the highest bidder [i.e. thief].

I'm not the paranoid type nor one that looks for a conspiracy theory under every rock -- however, I am wondering just who/which agencies or corporations are benefiting so heavily [aside from all the "charities" and politicians] who enter our homes via the phone lines -- unsolicited and definitely UNWANTED, yet they are allowed, even encouraged because the DNC registries certainly are not enforced. Smells strongly of political & so-called non-profit groups & lobbyists paying off sweetheart deals to get their "buddies" to be exempt from any fundraising restrictions.

I find some of the remarks posted about these ‘faux telemarketer calls’ amusing.  I put together a software program that has logged over 500 of these nuisance calls since 2010.  Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will receive more of these calls.  Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid which almost assures more calls.  Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a real person may be there on the follow up calls.  If you have the capability to ‘block’ the number that called – that is the best action.  If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously.  This will reduce the number of nuisance calls, but not stop them.  If you really want to block them – in addition to several cordless phones available there is software that a layman can install.  Of the 500 calls I’ve blocked, I've only added 16 over the last 6 months.  So the message is simple – blocking works….  One additional note, using the aforementioned processes I seldom have a second call from a given number.  But, when I do - I love it when "Number Blocked" shows on my 'Caller ID!!!
Additionally;  The Area Code, Exchange or even the entire number displayed on your caller ID may not accurately reflect the origin of a call as many of these crooks use software that disguises the originating number.
PS:  I think Call Notes should add a 'Call Type' for 'Spoof' or 'Scammer Calls'!

Same lame solar scam.  These guys use several different numbers, and each time I get a call from a new number I block it on my call blocking device.  Once blocked, I never even hear the phone ring a single time when these creeps call from that number again, but I can see how many times these pathetic crooks tried to call after they were blocked.   I can block 1200 numbers and after a year and a half I'm only up to 220 numbers, so I can keep playing their game. Usually after they are blocked they stop calling from that number, so when I finally hit my 1200 block limit I can just erase the earlier blocks that haven't repeated.  Next step is to ditch the land line like so many other people I know who've done it with no regrets.

When our machine came on they slammed the phone down when they hung up and that was @ 1:45 PM today. If they had called our number before it was a while ago. We expect there will be more.
