- Krs replies to TonyYour comment is incorrect. Credit card companies do call.

- The DudeCaptial One. Caller's primary language was definitely not English. Not sure if it was legit or not, but they asked for the person who used to have my number by name so it's probably legit. They were not a big fan of paying their bills and I get collections calls for them from time to time.
Caller acted professional and courteous when I explained person was not at this number and said they would take this number off the account.- Caller: Captial One
- Call type: Debt collector
- AZ Geema replies to TonyI work for a credit company and we DO call consumers alerting them to what we believe to be suspicious transactions.
- AZ Geema replies to anonymousI just called the number on the back of my card: 1-800-955-7070 and told the agent that I had rec'd three phone calls from someone stating they were from their Fraud Dept and gave her the number: 800-239-7054. She informed me that it IS the number to their fraud dept and transferred me over to them. They were questioning a purchase I had just made and wanted to make sure it was me. I assured them it was. That number is a legitimate number for Capital One!
- m replies to PatCalling that number is fine. It is legit as shown on Capital one website
http://www.capitalone.com/contact/credit-cards/
However the problem is that receiving a call from that number can be fraudulent as scam artists can "spoof" any phone number to show up on caller ID. When calling, they will either get your information (if you answer), or leave a message (happened to me), to call a different number back. In my case, the number I called back was an answering machine with the same voice as the woman who left the message. Capital one has fancy voice response systems and thousands of agents... not an answering machine and the same exact agent's voice who left me a message. Shady business. - BobThis is Capital One. People who think it is a scam have either been called via spoofing or are just idiots. If you're concerned, do not answer and call Capital One back directly and ask for the proper department.
I chose "event reminder" because they called for suspicious activity on a credit card. This option is not available or something like "Credit Card Company" or "Legitimate Financial Institution".- Caller: Capital One
- Call type: Event reminder
- HeartMyChiThis is a scam and anyone who claims otherwise is a liar. Look at the font of the letter. Take the letter with the Capital One logo and put it up against the one on the envelope. The logo is blurry! The letter is printed on a home printer. Since when does a credit company send a letter to "make sure you applied for this account"? They don't. They just send you a card. No doubt if you Google the number, you will be led to their FAKE website. They take legitimate information from the real website to make it look legitimate. Check the address bar! I feel so badly for these poor people who fall victim to this and other scams. Scammers are low life POS!!! Get a real job!!
- Brandy replies to tS| 1 replyI just got a call from this number. She asked for me by my maiden name, I told her she had the wrong number and hung up. I googled the number and called Capital One right away. This is not one of their phone numbers! The fellow I spoke to told me to contact the abuse department for Capital One, the BBB and the credit bureau so that a flag can be made so no one can open an account in my name.
- Jason replies to Irritated in PAI just got a call to my cell phone # tonight (didn't recognize the # so didn't answer). This person was asking for my social security number and DL number and I refused to give it to them. They hung up on me and I looked up another number for Capital One and was informed that this number is not associated with them this is fraud. The agent advised that if I receive another letter please disregard, Capital One is aware and working on this issue for resolution.
I immediately called the # on the back of my card and spoke with a very nice man at the REAL Capital One. He could not find 800-239-7054 or 877-438-4338 at all for one of the Capital One phone #'s. He said that it was very smart to NOT give out any information. The agent also advised to never respond to any of these fraud numbers. Once a customer responds to these numbers they will receive even more letters and/or calls since they will then know that this is a real individual He also gave me the phone # to Better Business Bureau to report this: 804-648-0016.
Hopefully others will not give into this scam! - JRI also received a call from this number asking for me by my maiden name. Called the number on the back of my card and they said 800-239-7054 is not their phone number. Turns out they didn't even have my maiden name. Sent them a transcript of the message that was left for me.
- Caller: NOT Capital One

- Lane| 1 replyIt's legit... It's listed on the Capital One website: http://www.capitalone.com/contact/credit-cards/
- Caller: Capital One
- MidNYteStorm replies to LaneConsidering the number of operations using caller id spoofing, I would not take a chance with an incoming call. Instead I would call the number listed on their website.
- keljen replies to BrandyI requested a new card and got a call from this same number and girl. I called Capital One from the number on my old card and they told me this number and even this girls name is legit.
- keljen replies to GreggSame thing happened to me. There was a fraud alert on my card because I requested a new card even though mine was new (it broke). I called the number from my old card because I NEVER call back the ones that leave messages. They told me it was a legit number and employer name. I called from my house and as a verification they called my cell, and the same main number popped up when they called me back. Either way if any of you feel uncomfortable, just called the company directly. I would always call though, because they could be calling you about someone opening an account in your name.
- keljen replies to pgYou just call and hit 0 until you get an operator and tell them what you need and they transfer you to fraud. At least that's what just happened to me.
- MikeReceived a phone call from this number today giving me a reference number and saying they were from Capital One's fraud department and a different number to call back (855-968-3131). Caller ID says Capital One. I called the number on the back of my card and asked for the fraud department. They said nothing was wrong with my account and since the voicemail was saved they asked me if I could email it to them because it was a fraudulent call. Email all information about these calls to abuse@capitalone.com
- ChrisThis is a total scam just called the number they told me they were having a problem verifying who I was and ask for a copy of my drivers license front and back and a copy of my social security card front and back... what person in their right mind would send their social security card and their drivers license together through the mail to a p.o box. then when i told them i wouldnt sent that to a p.o box they told me then they are contacting the FBI for possible fraud i told them to go right ahead ..haha what a joke
- Caller: they said they were from Capital One
- vernonjust received this call. Capital One has been trying to get us to get a card with them and we don't want it. We tear it up and throw them away. the person said call back because they want to verify an account but we have not applied for one. Not calling back but will request our credit report and make sure one of those torn up thrown out envelopes in the trash didn't come alive and get processed. I wonder if we don't call back will they give the person the card any way if it's legit.
