I am an ex-banker who quit when I became aware of the fraud. You could never owe any collection agency because you never contracted to do business with them. A collection agency cannot take you to court on a false claim, as that would be fraud and they know it. This fraud extends much farther than just collection agencies. It begins with the banks. If you are interested in more information, or if you want a letter to send to any collection agency which will stop them immediately, email:  what_mework@yahoo.ca

Hello.  I just finished getting a call from this number (800-256-8964).  I called the number back and got a VM of different departments so I pressed "zero".  I got a live human being and she asked me my cell number.  I passed it to her and then she connected me another person.  "Cindy" answered and she asked me my number.  Again I passed it on and she asked if I was "Gary?".  I said, no I am not "Gary".  Who are you looking for and she passed on "Gary Roth".  Again, I said no and she was very polite and said she would remove my number from "the list".   So "GARY ROTH" people are looking for you!!!  Call them back and step up to the plate!
    Have a nice day.  :-)

I get those message telling me that they left numerous messages on my phone, funny that is turned off.
All it is is automated and I refuse to hang on the line or phone back. They do not tell who they are but they want to know who you are, so were is our privacy?? I believe that it is our right not to want to talk to any one who does not introduce it self, who is paying the bill, me, my choice.
I  think I know the reason a Rogers cell phone bill I had cancelled within the time period and the cell phone was not even mine. I did some one a favour, who started a new job and needed a cell phone. They charged me for 4 cell phone numbers, why I do not know, tried to correct this but it did not work.
That was 3 years ago they started to call me after two years. Talked to them and told them the story, they do not care.  very frustrating why are  they so rude.

unlike the rest of you on here, i have yet to talk to anyone from this number.  I can hear them in the back ground but no one speaks. i don't even get the chance to hang up and they are calling AGAIN on my phone! ( yes I have call waiting).  This is really frustrating as they call my house at 10pm!! and think they have the right to call that late.

This number 1800-256-8964, rings me at least once a day with a recorded message saying its a message for someone called "Wanda", they are from the Canadian Collection Agency.

I wish they would stop calling me, it's wasting the credit on my phone, and have no idea who Wanda is, and would love to know where they got my money from.

If I ever get to talk to a real person I will tell them exactly what I think of them.

    annoyed as anyone
I'm in the same boat as sid here getting theses calls once a day, followed by a voicemail since I don't bother to answer them (I have a prepaid cell phone and answering voicemail takes up a lot of time I could be using to make a call or text). I am aware that my phone number is recycled from someone who had the number before me but why can't these people get the picture to stop calling my number even after noticing that no one answers them.

I googled the number and it turned out to be Credit Bureau of Canada Collections, whoever these people are.

Got the call today, about the same time of year as I recieved the same call a year ago. Last year when I got this call I called my bank to inquire about what was going on. Since all my financial dealings are with one bank only, not CIBC that this guy was representing (so he said) it was easy. My bank on my behalf called, found out pertinant info., called me back telling me that they were trying to find someone with the same name, only he was in a different province, & they had no phone number, so they were just 'fishing' so to speak.
Two calls, two stikes. They call again, it'll become a legal matter. Supposedly I was taken off this so called 'list' last time. Has anyone else clued in to the add at the top of this page & what it means? Who says a sucker isn't born every second, please, please people, don't use real names on this site! . . . :) Oh one other thing, note the caller states that he's calling on behalf of CBCC, but doesn't state complete name for legal reasons. Call display, call waiting, oh they can be pinned down in so many legal ways however. Call the add at the top of this page, find out, inquire, get pissed off.

    Not the idiot.
I am not going to take these calls as any kind of serious. If the message i have left on my voice mail are going to be left by a robot-machine service and not a human who actually wants to do business.

    I'm not intrested.

Dear owners of this number. Have something with a pulse leave me a message and i'll consider returning your phone calls.

it calls 3 times a day and leaves an automated message for "alan" to call back and that the matter is urgent.  I have called back several times and left a message on its machine advising that they have the wrong # and to quit calling.  I still receive a phone call at least once a day!  How do I make them stop!

I get a call from this number 1-800-256-8964 EVERY day of the working week.
The automated message caller says "This is a message for Lauren Lynch (whoever she may be), saying they have sent her time sensitive documents and for her to call them back by either pressing one to talk to an agent, or by dialling 1-866-751-2167".
These people are making me angry by keep phoning, I rang my provider ROGERS to try and block the number from calling me, NO couldn't do that as have pay as you go phone.
The kind lady did say she could ring them and get them to stop calling my number, this seemed to work for a week, but now they are back to their old tricks again.
I wish I had their cell phone numbers so I could leave them annoying voicemails every day and at stupid o'clock during the day.

I am in the exact situation. Gold's Gym in Calgary refuses to settle with me. I moved to Victoria, where there is no Gold's Gym, and they have sent my account to these people for collection. No one is listening to me, I feel scammed.

    Anonym replies to Mary
AH Yes Mary but you need to read the fine print in the contracts that you sign as alot if not all now have a clause that at any time the contractor can go after the contractee for the amount owing by selling to another agency, so what you say is not all ways true cause they do go to court for there money. As a person in debt I know that one gets sick and tired of not answering the phone or getting these ego maniacs calling but the truth is that we owe some if not all the debts nothing is free and the issue is the companies should be allittle understanding for situations that happen and allow the client (us) to set up something to take care of the debt with out having to deal with these ego maniacs, and money grabbing crook agencies

The caller calling from 800-265-8964 has been calling daily, except for xmas holidays and weekends, for over a year by now. "Our office" is the only i.d. they give. It is a "very urgent call" from an automated system, with never a person on the other end. I want these harassing calls to STOP, once and for all. I am registered with the "do not call register", yet this 800 caller continues. How can I get rid of it?

One the laws regarding collections agencies is, they cannot call your work, your family, nor anyone but you. They also cannot call enough times to consider it harassment. In Alberta, calling after 5pm is a big no-no, and they cannot threaten you, nor use threatening language, or any kind similar to. They can only inform you of your debt, work out a payment plan(Unofficially. Any offers they make to resolve a debt via one payment is absolute [***]), and inform the company of any change in your situation.

They cannot attempt to represent themselves as a law firm or anything other than what they really are. Collections agencies have tried time and again to lie their way into a few dollars and intimidate you. Getting angry, yelling, threatening, it's all playing into their hands.

Inform them that you know your rights. List your rights to them, and let them know any attempt to violate your rights or the act outlining your rights(Listed on the government's mainpage), and what they can/cannot do will be followed by a call to your province's Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority.

Debt collectors only know one language. Fear. Make them scared, but do it in a way that tells them that they done goofed. Once they see you won't budge and are ready to face them on equal ground, they'll back off. But don't think you can escape debt like that, either. They do have the right to contact you, but doing so in a manner that violates your rights is a good way to have the company they represent told to go [***] a rabbit.

As a public servent it's not up to you to be the judge. You do your job, and let the courts decide. Its cops like you that have let this country go to [***]... shame on you
