I have repeated asked these people not to call my number looking for any initial and my last name.  If enough of us call back the number after hours and just don't hang up hopefully they'd stop.  It will cost them.

You can simiply contact your MP/MPP for assistance.  They can verify who live in your household and who's not. How ?  Voters list. Almost every Canadian citizen over the age of 18 are on that list. They even got the address, phone number & date of birth of each individual. Unless the collection agency is looking for a person who is under 18 of ago or homeless, then you are out of luck.
Ask the name of the agency, name of the person(agent) who handle the case & the case number. Call your MP/MPP, ask him/her to contact the agency on your behalf. Trust me, most MP/MPP are willing to help. Cause you know, there is no free lunch. When it's election time, you know who you should give your vote to.

I was called by these guys, i was left an ext #, called back, the person on the other side was polite enough. I gave them the record # and she started to ask for my name, but just as i was about to say i would rather not say it, it simply asked if the phone number they had is mine and asked if the name they had for the number was also mine. Said no, cause it wasn;t, and i was promised that my phone # is removed from the list.

I get approximately 4-5 phone calls from this company a day, looking for someone named James.  First of all I do not know anybody named James, and they definitely do not live at my residence.  I moved and got the phone number about 5 months ago and ever since we've gotten call after call from these idiots asking for various people, none of whom I know.

I've made multiple calls each time explaining that it was a new number and must of been someone else's before, but they keep calling.  Every time I speak to someone they act like I am lying, and insist I must know this person and that they must live at this number.

I am beyond frustrated and so sick of getting up to 5 calls a day and several voicemail messages.  The first few calls we recieved were from Selena Haughn ext. 4413, I spoke with her several times and explained the situation and she treated me like I was covering for someone and lying.  The latest message I received was from Giovanni Romero at ext 308.  Again asking for a James and insisting it was urgent and that the call be returned immediately.  Each time they call they leave a case#.

I have no idea what to do to get these morons to stop calling my house!  Any suggestions?

I have a similar experience with debt collectors. They've been calling and asking for a person I don't know. No matter how many times I tell them they have the wrong number, they keep calling and asking. Most of the time I get pre-recorded messages.
I threatened to press charges, but at that point they seem to pass the case to another debt collector (along with my phone number).

So now I just block these numbers. I still get a call once in a while, probably when a debt collector realizes my number is blocked and sells the case to another collector, but I'm usually left alone for a while.

    Good evening to everyone,

What to do if a collector trying to call our number and looking for somebody who has nothing to do with our home phone number? They are looking for Eva Chambler(?) and keep leaving us messages on the phone... Collector's exetension number is 266. It is very annoying...

    Hi NN

You only need to advise them to stop calling you ONCE and they must comply! Say that you do not know this person and that this is your personal phone number. Ask them to remove the number immediately and ask the person you speak to for their full name and Ontario collector license number. They are legally obligated to provide you with this info. At least the full name. You can find their license number here:  If they do not comply, advise them that you will be lodging a formal complaint with the Ministry of Consumer Services who will force the management team to pull the call record.

Also, if you are a debtor and wish to stop calls, you may do so in the province of Ontario by sending a formal cease and desist letter. They would be legally obligated.

Hope this helps you and any others

Going to study Law comes in very handy for things you never knew. After studying Consumer Law teaches a lot of Laws we are not aware of. For instance in Ontario did you know that if your creditor cannot reach you or you have no contact with them concerning your account for 2 years. They are no longer able to collect on the debt. However, every single time you either acknowledge, make payment arrangements or a payment. You start the cycle all over again and they have another 2 years to harass you. Just some food for thought.......hope it helps you it certainly helped a few of my friends out.
