Didn't answer the call but do not believe it is a legit Discover Fraud Division call because I don't have a Discover card.  I think the scammers add comments to this sight to make some idiots believe it is real and call them back.

Here is what I think: I think it is Discover's Fraud division calling to TEST you :-D If you had fraudulent charges (as I did) on your account, they are investigating - and they want to make sure that you are not at fault (i.e. turning over your information to an unknown). Might not be it, but I called back, and as soon as they asked for my info I was like "I don't feel comfortable giving this" and the dude said, "that's cool - call us back from the number on the back of your card." I did, they verrified everything, and we're all good.

Guys, stop being stupid and posting so confidently without doing your homework. This is the Discover Identity Protection Team. It's their job to call your phone number (which they get from your credit report) to verify a credit card application. I used to work at another bank and this is standard practice. Please cooperate because you can very well prevent yourself from becoming a victim of identity theft. If you are not comfortable giving sensitive information to them even with this post, call their customer service number from their website and ask to speak with the Identity Protection Team. Most general customer service representatives will just [***] their way through the call. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

did receive a call from 800-347-0350 which is not my usual Discover card number and not the # on the back of my current card...i let the call go without answering it... caller did mention Discover and i returned the call to the
formal number. a fraud account rep said they use randomized phone numbers which aren't shown or identified by my phones white list... this was a valid call issue.

    Another 800 number scam.

The large number of  shillers basically posting to  tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.

This number is  most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real,   is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.

Forty-five  entries in this thread and I count 17  as shill posts.

At a   38 % shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam.  At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.

This  scam is well documented.  Simply google it out.  Based  on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.

These type of calls follow a  similar pattern.  They all  claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions.  Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.

All with the same type of   postings.  All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made.  Or something similar.  They all ask for personal or personal financial information.

Just part of the shillers  criminal MO.

I've noticed the  shill posters often use the same turns of phrase.  Same old, same old verbiage telling  everyone how "legit" the calls are.

Personally I think the group or groups  posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.  They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.

In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you.  If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.

Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far.  (That I’ve been able to find.)

It was Discover. They left a message to call back at 800-347-4996, their fraud number. Instead I called their main number. They wanted to verify a suspicious charge which was actually a legitimate charge I made. Sounds like some scammers may have tried spoofing this number based on some of the submissions here.

Just call the main number like I did. It's that simple. It was Discover who called me. Maybe a scammer spoofed you. So, you are at least partially wrong, assuming spoofing is occurring. Otherwise you are 100% wrong. You need to update your database because your data has errors and your research is flawed. Maybe instead of considering only "yes" or "no", you should also consider the possibility of "maybe." Doing so will could transform your data from "definite garbage" to "maybe garbage", "maybe not garbage". Also, be careful where you get your data. You can't assume everything on the Internet is correct. I know for sure because even it everything else was right, your data is wrong...at least partially :)

    Not A Scam
Not a scam regardless that some are adamant about this being a scam because "they know better". I'm a Discover cardholder and I was called from this number and they had my name and asked about a delinquent account that had been written off. My account is not delinquent. I hung up and called the number on the card. They did have a delinquent account for the same amount associated with me and the representative confirmed the account balance. After asking me verifying questions they determined it was someone else's account and removed my contact information. Moral of the story, always hang up and call the number on the card. Do not just ignore that call. You could be a victim of identity theft.

Keep in mind, just because a number is legit, doesn't mean the caller is!

Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.

If it is a legitimate call, then anyone receiving a call would know WHY they got a call from this number, right?
So what would be a reason to come and post about it to a site designed to share information about UNKNOWN callers, such as Telemarketers, Scammers and Debt Collectors?

If your call was legit,  telling about it won't  be any comfort to those who may get a spoofed call from some scammer!

Call your Bank from a number you trust is theirs, don't trust a caller to be who they say they are if it is an unsolicited call. Even the Fraud dept. will understand if you wish to call them back and verify the call first.

My girlfriend must have used my number for a reference at some point. These morons call my phone 1 to 3 times a week asking for her. They are so dumb. When they call, they try to pronounce her name and can't ever get it right. It's not that hard to pronounce Elvia (EL_VEE_AH) I blocked their numbers, but stupid phone allows them to leave VM. They say they're from Discover Card and have great offers. I have never answered their calls and never will. They can call all they like with different numbers. I will continue to block any number that I don't recognize and never give them the satisfaction to talk to me. They can leave all the VM they want too. Kind of entertaining listening to how stupid they sound.

Answered the call and the person on the other end said she was with DiscoverCard wanting to confirm information then asked for the previous owner of the home we bought 1 1/2 years ago.  Told her the previous owner is now dead, never did have our current phone number and Discover does not make calls like this and she is blowing smoke up my a__! And hung up.  I've done business with Discover for over 40 years and they NEVER make these type calls. So even though the caller ID says DiscoverCard - that is not who is calling!!

My post of 22 Nov 2017  on this thread showed a 38% shill rate.    Now, out of the current 57 entries in this thread I count 24 as shill posts.  42% shill rate.  This is an obvious 800 number  scam.  But the shillers never stop trying to convince everyone that the call is valid.

Shillers--give it up.  You are convincing nobody that this number is valid.   You're only increasing the likely hood that people will recognize it as a scam.   In other words, the more you shill, the less believable these calls become.
