Maybe yes, maybe no.  Numbers and names that show on your Caller ID are routinely spoofed - faked - by crooks who want to trick you into giving up personal information as a part of ID Theft.

Do not give or confirm personal info to the caller. Thank them, and take down any info you might need and then call the bank or card company back on a number you trust and dial for yourself.

Got a call from this number. Called ID says Discover Card.  I do not have a Discover account and I did not answer the call.  Today I got an alert from Creditwise saying that a Discover account has been opened in my name.  I call Discover card fraud.  They have no record of anything in my name.  Mysterious.

I ignored a call from this number and they left a voicemail. The female got my name wrong and stated I needed to immediately call her back at another phone number, where she did not know the last 4 of so there was an awkward silence. Definitely a scammer.

I announced the company name when I picked up. The person calling was quiet for several seconds while I heard the call center behind them. I announced the company name again. They hung up before I even finished speaking.

Always call official phone number (1-800-Discover in my case) and never callback. I received several calls and they left voice mail asking to callback to different number. They left different number to callback.
Remember, caller ID could be faked. Never give them any information. (Or, give them a random number if they asked your SS#. If they confirmed the number, they are the scam).

I got a call from this number, but callerID didn't show a company name, so I didn't answer.  They left a voice mail saying it was Discover and to call them back.  Instead of calling that number, I called the number on the back of my Discover card.  It turns out that someone had attempted to use my card fraudulently, twice.  They're cancelling that card and sending a new one.  They don't share what tipped them off that it was a fraudulent charge, but I'm glad that they called.

So, that is the number to call them, not the number they call out on.They are spoofing a real number and contacting people. Looks like you are trying to convince me that this is a real call. Hmm, maybe you are part of the sdcam?

Ran the number thru white pages.com. Registers as a fraud number.
    • Caller: Supposedly Discover reporting unwanted charge on my card.

Here again. Subsequently received 2 emails after the 2 texts I mentioned above. Called number on my card. Did mention that the number on text registered as a fraud. CSR said that happens frequently with 800 numbers, but that in this case, yes, it was legit from Discover and my card was used.
Bottom line:  when receiving questionable texts, calls, emails, etc, always call the number on the back of the card to confirm. Some messages may be legit but many are not. Better to be safe than sorry.

Called me from 877-253-8807 last week and I had blocked that. Stated I had unauthorized activity on a debit card I have not used in over a month and a half. Also called to 'report' this information to me at 9pm on a Sunday. I WILL be calling my bank now and freezing that card, because some scammer has my account info. There is nothing legit about this number! If in doubt, call the number on the back of your debit/credit card. Never EVER give personal info away to someone who cold calls you.

It is definitely Discover customer fraud.  I did some business with them over the phone a few days ago and they were verifying that it was definitely me.  It's a legit call.

and this isn't the call back number.  if you listen to the message they leave a different number. i called discover twice and did a chat so I'd have different people each time and they were able to verify immediately it was them.  I made a suggestion that they come up with a way to let customers know it's real and to email their base and explain it to them.  too many dirtbags out there trying to steal.

This was in fact Discover, although they never left a message. I called back and they were confirming purchases I made (they had frozen my account when I didn’t pick up because they thought it was fraud)

I called the number back and it is not a scam.  I signed up for VENMO and they wanted to be sure I was the one who really signed up using my Discover card.

I received a call from this number, said my Discover Card had a suspicious $2,000 transaction. I thought it was a telephone scam, so I hung up. But when I called the real Discover service number on the back of my card 800-347-3085, they said I did have this $2,000 attemptted transaction, and helped me to disapprove it and said they will mail me a new card. About this number, the officer said he was not quite sure because they have so many departments, but 1-800-347-xxxx is really the prefix of many Discover Custom Service number. So I think this number is the true discover number.   BUT, in order to be 100% safe, you should hang up suspicious incoming phone calls and find the real number which you are 100% sure(e.g. the phone number printed on your card) call back and see what happens.

It really is Discover. They called to verify some activity that actually was me. No way a scammer could have known that information or the recent changes I’d made to my account.
