- MctireI got a call from this number requesting that I call between 8:00 and 10:00 A.M. A male stated that he represented the Bank of Nova Scotia. I checked the BNS 800 number and it is not the number above. Needless to say I am not going to call this number as I suspect it is some kind of scam. Beware in case it is.
- Caller: Supposedly BNS
- jermacI am currently recovering from major surgery, and although other creditors are understanding Scotiabank,
gives you the 3 week option, pay or the letter will be enacted upon.
Thanks You
Merry Christmas to you too

- Checking up.... replies to ScotiabankI don't suppose you were foolish enough to post this from work, were you? While it may very well be true that Scotiabank does not care about losing my business, I believe they will care very much about 'how' it is lost. Harming the interests of your employer by claiming to represent them in this way could be grounds for dismissal with cause, meaning notice or pay in lieu is not required. I'll make sure and show this to my branch manager as well after I email it back to your employer this afternoon. Again, if you've posted this from work, I would have a hard time believing someone could have such unfortunate judgment.
- vaneeta replies to Scotiabankmost of u are nice and helpful a few have been rude and blunt not any means from my part i have always given my info and been resposive and respectable in my bad times when i was in the debt of collections with my loan

- Steve L| 1 replySadly the final word on this is simple..... 1-800-375-5872 is ScotiaBanks collection department number. I confirmed this by calling ScotiaBanks online banking # and by calling my branch and both confirmed it. But don't take my word do it for yourself.... it's not that hard. Simply ask any confirmed Scotia employee for the National Collection Centre phone number and you will be given 1-800-375-5872 or they are morons and ask a different employee.
Once I confirmed the number I called and spoke with Wendy Rickman at extension 83955, one of the managers there, who quite nicely listened to me [***] for a half hour (try getting some scammer to listen to a half hour rant) about their stupidity in calling people with an auto dialer that asks for personal info to be given (confirm name and postal code). She has promised to bring the matter to senior managements attention... but I've gone a step further and will file a complaint with the President of ScotiaBank's office at 1-877-700-0043. I strongly urge you all to do so as well.
For the record, lest I be accused by some bitter Scotia collector of being a loser that doesn't pay his bills, I had merged one Scotia Visa account into another a day before the payment was due, and internal delays had slowed the merger creating a late payment on one account. When I was initially called by the auto dialer I had hung up and called Scotia Visa and they new nothing of the auto dialer trying to confirm my personal info and referred me to security who also new nothing about it.... I even filed info with security about attempted breaches of their system.
Later I confirmed what I always new about Scotia (and most banks) ... they are a humungous, slow, bureaucracy in which one arm, Visa, cannot access the files of the other , collections, properly and therefore things get passed by computer between depts automatically and no one knows WTF is going on.
So this people is the sad truth. All non Scotia customers getting calls are probably just info errors.... but you never know.... Scotia's stupid but legit system may already be inspiring scammers to mimic it. Meanwhile it's more likely their big machine is after you for some small oversight.... so do call and sort it out before you change banks.
BOTTOM LINE... CALL SCOTIA BACK AT THE ABOVE COLLECTIONS # ONLY AFTER CONFIRMING IT YOURSELF WITH A REAL SCOTIA EMPLOYEE... AND AFTER YOU SORT OUT WHY THEY CALLED....TAKE A MOMENT TO [***] ABOUT THEIR AUTODIALER SYSTEM AND EVEN ASK FOR THE PRESIDENTS OFFICE NUMBER AND FILE A COMPLAINT>- Caller: Scotia Bank

- screwed over by them replies to frankLook your comment is as about usefull as a comment at the KKK ralley. The info they are refering to is personal banking not who they are..and you called them idiots? And yes they do fish for new clients this scummy way so to say `pay your bill..bla bla bla garbage is demeaning to intelligent people. You do not have all the answers or even some of the info you keep your stupid [***] comments to your self.
- AsherI got a call from this number with an immediate question what is my name, date of birth and some other personally identifiable data. They called me at home, so they should at least have some form of assurance it was me. Therefore it was suspicious. One piece of info would have been sufficient.
Even if this is a Scotia Bank number there is no guarantee that the person wanting to talk to you is authorized to ask you those questions and use the information as part of a phishing expedition.
For example, being a 1800 number which is a recognized scotia number, it may still be that someone wanting to sell say, a mortgage, gets private information and passes it onto third parties. It would an unlikely place to look for phishing, but nevertheless possible.
There has to be a better way that Scotia could prove their credentials, without having to go to a branch or call a branch and have to turn something simple into a bureaucratic nightmare.- Caller: Scotia Bank?
- Janice Cho ChuIt's ScotiaBank calling because you didn't pay your bill. Pay your bills, scammers! You can't run away from your debt forever!!
(Also, I love how the scammers above try to delegitimize the call and/or phone number by saying that it's some "identity theif" trying to steal personal information. LOL! Nice try scammers but it won't work! Pay your bills!)- Caller: ScotiaBank
- Call type: Debt collector
- tired of no it all wanabes replies to MOwieWowie"This is the # for Scotiabank's collection department - confirmed legit - Call them back and pay your bills!!"
really?...well my account was done and closed 3 months ago and they called saying i owed 3 months interest on a closed account and new nothing about it being paid off and closed...hmm go figure that with your smart [***] comments...man! some people must work for them...this is here to find out whos calling not be abused by know it all's who think they know something they don't. - shadow_indrai do not know if this is a real number or not but i have received numerous calls from them they want my sin number unwilling to give it to the they get mad at me contacted my bank branch who i trust and know i gave them the number they said not one of there's they looked at my account and said there is nothing wrong with it at all everything is okay all my payment are okay nothing is late nothing is past due so this leads me to believe this is a fact number
- Caller: scotiabank
- Kay replies to frankUr right... but even if the number is legit, you NEVER confirm any persoanl info with someone who calls u. If they claim Scotiabank there's a simple solution... call ur bank branch of Scotia and tell them you got called by the credit dept. Let the bank teller clear it up or arrange to discuss all info within the branch once they get the info from the Scotiabank collections.
- ctit shows up on your phone as scotia bank but it is a SCAM
- Caller: scotia bank
- Checkit| 1 replyCalled the bank directly. Had them check my file.
Everything was in order, no problems with card or payments.
I reported the 800 375 5872 number, and the call. They confirmed that this number is not associated with them in anyway.
When in doubt: Just call the bank, using the number on the back of the card. If there is no issue, report the incident to them - they do track it and investigate fraud.- Caller: 800-375-5872
- Mike replies to CheckitYou are mistaken. The number you reported IS in fact the number to the collection center. My girlfriend works there. Situations like yours often happen when payments are made late or other reasons that have been resolved around the time that they are trying to call you. They are calling you out of courtesy.
However I agree that if you are in doubt, ask your local branch for the phone number for Scotiabank collections and call them yourself. - olperky replies to frankFrank the Fool Has Spoken... With the Naive attitude He exhibits... He makes himself a prime target for Phishing.
The I'll Mannered Nature of the Callers, who were stupid enough to talk over You, rather than listening to a Three Word Question... tell Me one thing... They are Not Worth Speaking Too. They are very poorly trained, and the line soon went dead. If they are Scotia Bank Contractors they are cretins...
They Do Not Have the Stroke to negotiate any significant arrangement, and... regardless of who they think they are... I'm not about to surrender even the most modest element of my personal i.d. to potential a Phisher. Regardless of who these folks are or are not... I'll attend My Bank Branch and anyone receiving these calls should do the same.
There is a group or groups that are pounding away representing themselves as BMO, Scotia and Royal Bank... If you search for them on this or other sites. - olperky replies to ScotiabankI believe You... I believe You might be a member of the crew that stumbles through their attempt to impersonate a business person...
The Attitude you betray in Your Post, proves up the low grade level of what ever bunch you work with... To Repeat... You/They don't have the Talent be calling Scotia Customers... or the Stroke to Get the Job Done.
The Very fact You Seem Ego Driven to post Here... representing Yourself as You have tells Me You lack the Savvy and Maturity of someone who might get the job done, without coming off like a creep or an impostor. It's Tragic that You are so dull witted that You can't make the connection between the feeble efforts these callers make, and the dead match to the techniques criminals employ every day to assemble identities for theft... - olperky replies to these people are scumbagsAh Men Brother... Very Sound Advice
- olperky replies to YOU GUYS ARE BUSTEDYo Baby... Thanks
