Perhaps something that is being missed here is the ease with which caller I.D.s can be Spoofed by way of an cheap bit of software , and a VIOP set up... The fact that the phone numbers appear to match the legitimate Scotia Collections number proves nothing...

To scotia employee replies to Scotiabank
I just wanted to comment on the last part of your message where you said "I have a job, and most of you do not.". I think that's a really unfair thing to say because you dont know what's going on in people's lives. People make mistakes and forget to make payments on time sometimes, it happens. Life gets in the way. I'm currently in university becoming a doctor and I have a job. My dads been in the hospital and sometimes priorities take over. You think you have so much power over people but if this is your mind set then really, I feel sorry for you. Don't make assumptions about people sometimes it's just a payment that's a little late. You don't know what's happening in their lives and you don't need to be rude.

I received a message from my co-worker and he told me that one of the reps called about my mortgage.  I will be making a payment on Dec 9/11.  I will be in touch next week to discuss other payment arrangements.

    Who?
Got an automated voice call from 800-375-0888 and have no doubt it's a "legit" number. The only problem is, I've never had an account with Scotia Bank. They're not exactly the swiftest there. Told them to put whatever they have in writing and if they've purchased a debt that I've somehow missed, then fine, but as it stands I have $0 in open debts on my credit so really puzzled. I'd also like to think that these customer service reps would at least comprehend people's reluctance to divulge SSN#'s to operations they cannot verify who they are.

You sent a collection letter to "Arron Cook" at #9-711 Beaconhill Drive, Fort McMurray AB.  I own that property.  He rented a room months ago.  I have not seen him for about 6 months.  Sending mail to that address is a waste of your time and mine.  Bob  (780) 479-1199
If you want to ask about me call Judy Fex at the Scotia Bank 118 ave & 82 Street, Edmonton. She handles the mortgage for me.

I find any time there is activity on a credit card these calls increase. I love caller i.e. I also enter the number into Google to see who is calling. Plus i am deaf so i don't use the phone and go to the bank for banking purposes.  Hubby uses phone so if the person asks for me, we know it is usually a scam, plus our names are unusual and hard to pronounce which is also another clue.

Scotia Bank Collections, as previously stated they will call numbers from Canada411, if they have no number listed for the person they are seeking. I have no dealings with Scotia Bank and merely provided them with my DOB and postal code and they agreed they did not have the right person.

How about when your payments are all up-to-date and Scotiabank refuses to reply to your calls? What happens when you go into your branch with all your receipts, and theyySTILL refuse to deal with you, or fix your credit when they even admit it was their mistake? Worst bank to EVER deal with. Anybody associated with this 'SERVICE" should hang their heads in shame. As soon as they manage to get said heads dislodged from between their [***] cheeks.

This number is legit it is scotia bank calling because you have defaulted on a payment of your loan, they don't want it to go any further so they call you from this number, to make sure you can make arrangements to pay it. That is all it is, I have had a hard time keeping up because I was a victim of identity theft they were very nice and polite when I had to make arrangements in my hard time.. They just wanna get paid, just like other banks and are calling to inquire about money you have rightfully signed they could take out of ur account..

Scam. Not even a good one. Ignore the callers from this one. It's old, it's lame, it's done.
I kid you not. I'm real. I'm Gunnar. Google me.

This number was either spoofed or transferred to scammers-- I received an automated voicemail to call some other number to get $100 from AT&T, with no reference to debt collection or any bank.

This is the right number, and they are dumbass morons.  They screwed my accounts up a few times, where a payment was supposed to come out of a certain account, but came out of the wrong account.  So I got nsf from scotia and my other bank twice.  Scotia reluctantly reversed the fees claiming it is my responsibility for this.  Yes its my responsibility to make my payments but when they keep [***] the account up?  And now I am behind a payment, and are not willing to even make arrangements when I am clearly trying to pay them.  Now I wo t have the money in my account a certain day and I told them, but they dont care, and they are going to pull the money out anyways even when it wont be there. So I will be charged nsf from them and my other bank.  Not to mention when I talked to them they were very very rude, demanding asking me the most stupid questions, and I wasnt even rude to them. Im just trying to make arrangement.  Customer service at the service center was great and they tried to help but collections wouldnt allow them to.  Im behind one payment, and really its because of their [***] up.  Anything to do with my loan, collections are the only people I can talk to, and deal with.   I am done dealing with them. I am going to transfer my loan to another bank.  I have heard nothing but probs with them.

Don't be fooled replies to Scotiabank
Really, does Scotia Bank endorse you speaking on their behalf, with this type of language?  You don't work for the Scotia Bank, and folks, this is a scam.  I have no account with the Scotia Bank, no loans, no relations at all.  Yet, they called me, on a new line that was just installed for my office.

Don't believe the hype, and btw, the last 3 number of your SIN is the only numbers that are actually private. DO NOT GIVE THEM OVER THE PHONE.  IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

    A wealthy friend.

I work for the Scotiabank, too. YOUR comments do not help people who have fallen on hard times and just want someone to listen to their case; we all have our story and should be treated with respect. If you go in with an empathic attitude and a smile (we can hear it in your voice!), it will certainly go a long way to people treating you right. LET'S all remember the Golden Rule. Also, go back to grade 4 NCC for Scotiabank Employee and learn how to spell and use an apostrophe correctly; IT'S not something you can leave out because you are lazy and WON'T take the time to proofread your work before submitting to the masses, or possibly, YOU'RE (yes, THAT'S how you use the word correctly) just stupid.

This is a real number.  They called to remind us that we were a wee bit late on a line of credit payment.  Good bit of advice though... if you are ever unsure... just hang up and call the number on the back of your bank card to double check.

Judgmental much buddy.  If you read the posts you'll see that many of the people who've received those annoying calls either don't even deal with Scotiabank or have in the past but have paid off their debt.  Getting a collection call or notice from any organization doesn't  immediately imply guilt or even legitimacy for that matter.  If anyone's "[***]", it's you and your blatant ignorance.

    It's a scam.
They have a very well established scam here. I'm assuming it's all for information, but they will sell you lies all the way through. They even give you fake reference #'s which don't refer to anyone!! I spoke to "Michelle" on the phone, I asked for her employee reference number. I called a number on the scotiabank website and they told me that this reference number does not exist. To boot, I don't have an account at scotiabank!! I've had one bank account my whole life with TD. Also I DONT OWE MONEY. So don't believe those idiots who post here saying we need to pay our bills. ITS A SCAM HANDS DOWN. they will say everything they can to persuade you into giving the information. Even pretending like they don't really want it.

    Don't call this number

I got 12 calls claiming to be Scotiabank, telling me to call this number. I called the ACTUAL number for Scotiabank customer service and was told by a representative that this number has nothing to do with Scotiabank. The only number they'll ever tell you to call is 1-800-4SCOTIA. This information came from a legit employee about 3 minutes ago. I have NO accounts with Scotiabank, there is no reason for them to be calling me about anything.

This 1800 number is part of a very aggressive scam.
