- Amazed replies to ScotiabankWhoever you are that's representing scotiabank you should be terminated for posting this. Do you have the authority to represent the bank?
- Letter recipient replies to MeOk, not disputing the number or legitimacy. So, four questions please:
1) The number does not work if you are out of country though. Is there another (long distance even) number that can be used?
2) If determined that there IS a credit problem, what happens next regarding your credit rating?
3) My letter was sent to me while I was out of country and it has now been months ... what recourse or options do I have to resolve the issue?
4) How long does this bad credit rating take to be cleared?
It appears my credit rating has been severely damaged because of this, as my credit card vendor of 30 years has just dropped my card's credit limit to what a teenager might get after approved for a credit card!
Awaiting your experienced advice. - Fred RalstonI have received a letter from P. Gregoire, Manager stated that if he did not hear from me within 10 days the account would be closed. I am writing this to indicate that before I left Canada I had made arrangements with the bank manager that the overdraft would be cleared up in total when my LIF comes in January. He indicated that I owe $2944. but since the end of October my CPP cheques have been just taken which left me nothing to pay rent or buy food with. That is something that I have never heard of. Could Mr. Gregoire email me at my email address of rockiadam@outlook.com before any further action is taken on the account. This needs to be treated as very urgent.
- ChipThe call was legit. I had forgotten to pay last month's VISA bill and they called to remind me. Hasn't happened in years - don't remember the last time - but the call was appreciated.

- Maureen| 1 replyActually, this is a legit number. As it turns out, I had made a mistake in a payment a few weeks ago. So I'm glad I did phone back to see what was going on and make things right, but I also told the rep that their message just sounds so much like a scam that they might want to reword the whole thing. Both reps were extremely courteous.

- FrustratedOk so I searched online for this number. My story is a bit different , I closed my chewing account with scotia on may 5th 2016 as I was moving to another country. And then thay send a letter on November 25th saying that I owe 51.70 in over draft protection and if I didn't get back to them they would go to collections. So I called right away and this was the number but it doesn't go through no matter what time of the day I try. So I called scotia bank customer service , the first time they put me though my branch and gave a person's name to discuss and if she doesn't answer to leave a detailed message. I left a very detailed message giving my phone number to contactand even left my email so tgree days pass and nothing happens and as I am sick worried about my credit rating I was calling the scotia branch that dealt with me every day I would go on automatic hold and for 30 minutes no one would answer. I called the customer service again and then the guy after listening to my whole story puts me on hold and goes to talk to a consultant and drops the line on me , I know this because I called right back and insisted on speaking to the same person as I had given my story in 10 minutes , so the new lady I am talking to puts me on hold again and goes to search for him after 4 minutes she comes back and says the solution is that u contact your branch so I kind of lose it and ask her to put me through their manager , she puts me on hold again and may I say 23 minutes hold on international call is not that easy on the pocket . So I hang up as I cannot afford to have such long calls. So I call again and this new agent gives me the number of the manager of the branch. I have left her the same detailed message and waiting for her call. The fact is , my credit score is on the line here and I will not pay for one of the tellers fault that she did not understand my request to close the account. Now the question is should I contact consumer protection?

- JimmyHere we have a problem, this scam, 1-800-375-5872, debt collections on behalf of scotia is a lie. My Scotia people tell me this is not related to them. Here's the weird thing. I WAS late on a payment(10 days), my question is how would the scammers know they unless they had inside info? All they want is a bunch of info. They say they are only asking for the LAST 3 digits of my social insurance, but six months ago, another "agency" called me and only wanted the FIRST 3 numbers of my social insurance. They'll do this forever until they have all the numbers, Same with postal etc. If you are being collected on, you will get paperwork first. 2weeks late on a fifty dollar payment does not go directly to collections! Good grief. They are all scams! They take advantage of the fact that we are all good people, and don't want to be in arrears, that's the scam, taking advantage of human nature.

- G K replies to ScotiabankYou represent a good bank, and your statement correctly explains the way your bank operates. Not give a flying [***] about the customer. Frankly speaking majority of the staff seems to have an arrogant attitude and the management seems to support such behaviour.
Anyhow, no point being publicly stupid. You would be in line to lose your job when YOUR SCOTIA DIRECTORs want to fill their own pockets and screw you from your back side - NCC collections officer replies to rude or ignorantIf you have a car loan through a dealership it could be with Scotiabank. And if you've ever co-signed for anything and the primary of the account has fallen behind the NCC will make attempts to contact both signers. They verify your name and 2 other pieces of personal information so as too make sure they're speaking with the right person if they can't do that they will not leave any info with a 3rd party besides for the loan holder to "call.back as its an important banking matter"...if I was you I wouldn't want someone releasing information on my personal banking without verifying me, that would be a breach of my personal banking security. If you are late on a payment by even one day the NCC will call you as a reminder of the overdue payment and if you make a payment it normally takes 2-3 days to update in the system so you might receive calls up to 2 days later just advise the office the amount you paid towards your account. They normally advise 3 methods of payment on overdue accounts online (you transfer the money to your respective loan), via Z (at the branch where you can work with a trusted teller), or we can do a payment request (using a pre-authorized debit account which is normally already on file). If a PAD isn't on file we transfer you to the Dealer Finance Center. If it's a wrong number simply tell the officer that it is a wrong number and they will remove it from the file.
- wtf replies to MOwieWowieNo, [***] scotiabank!
It’s their fault for giving me the money in the first place!!!! - AlIt's absolutely fake. Picked up the phone and he asked to confirm the address and date of birth. I said no give me the phone to call u back. He gave another number which was fake when I googled it.
Called Scotia and they said there is nothing wrong with your account. It was FAKE FAKE FAKE.
Banks never call customers and ask you to confirm your DOB or address. Always hang up and call bank yourself. - post pending moderator approval
