- YoavIn our case the call was totally legit. Following a text message and this phone call my wife called the 24 hrs cardmember service and a representative confirmed that someone had tried to use her card twice, somewhere across the country, which is probably what triggered the alarm.
One thing to keep in mind, though. Scammers spoof legit phone numbers, so it is important to verify the true identity of the person behind the call even if the number appears legit. A couple of months ago I got a call from the local FBI office (I checked the number) offering 'help' with filing my tax forms. Needless to say that this was a scam.- Caller: Credit card company
- sanibel_999Got a call from this number on Christmas Eve saying they were from the credit card fraud dept. They had the correct name and last four digits on the credit card. Not trusting voice mail number we called the number issued on the back of the credit card. They automatically transferred us to the fraud dept and there. We reviewed recent charges. They listed two fraudulent charges and one legit charge. They canceled the card for us.
- Caller: Credit Card Company
- HankLegit number. Our US Bank credit card was compromised. Always call the number on the back of your card.
- Caller: US Bank
- DonI just received a message from the number. The message told me to verify a transaction on my card ending in 07**. But I don't have such a card for sure. I just ignored the call and message.
- Caller: 18003798461
- BobLast night (1/17/17) I received a text and phone call from this number saying that there may be fraud on my card. "Card Fraud Alert: Did you attempt $128.76 at SEARS.COM 9301 on 01/17?" I called the number on the back of my credit card and there were several fraudulent charges, including the one in the text.
- DaveGot a text about fraud then it recommended to call this number which did end up calling me. They said they were usbank and asked the typical verifying questions. They did end up being USBank and closed my card down and started a fraud case. Though I would still find the number on your card or bank site and call in to that one so you can be sure you called the correct place.

Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD
Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD - PAL replies to LukeThis was an actual call from my bank. I did not use this number to call back, though. Instead, I called the number on the back of my credit card - they were able to put me directly through to the fraud department. (Glad I called, someone WAS trying to use my card illegally!)
- KJust got a call saying this was fraud prevention for my Visa card with Comerica. Only problem is, I have no such card and never did. They also sent a text immediately after. This is definitely a scam
- Call type: Prank
- Elsie PeaI got a robocall telling me of fraud on my Visa card. I did not respond to the robo call and called the number on the back of the credit card. I got the same recording. They knew the last few places I had used my card and identified 2 charges that were not mine. My cards have been cancelled and new ones will arrive in 48 hours.
Legit.- Caller: TOLL FREE CALL
- c c c replies to MikeSame here, but both robo-call and text stated that it was from Fidelity. I called them and immediately was connected to fraud prevention dept. They siad there was indeed a lock on my card, and lifted it once I provided identifying info.
- Ana replies to US Bank customerThis number is a SCAM - call your credit card company directly. Do not respond to any prompts ovee the phone.
- MikeUS bank fraud dept. Someone was trying to use my card and I call the bank directly after reading here and it was legit.

- CWG40Two-forty entries on this thread and I count 120 as shill posts.
The large number of shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. At a 50% shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
These type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”. All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)

- CA800-379-8461 This is scam ! Do NOT Fall For This. They claim to be from US Bank Fraud Department - I do not have any credit cards from this bank. They have a computer recording of bogus charges to make you select the option to speak to them. Then they go through what you would think are routine questions to obtain your personal information !
They also tried to send me a TEXT Message Alert from 337-48, then gave the number to Call to remove the block from my card !!! These scammers are getting creative - don't fall for it- Caller: US BANK FRAUD DEPT.
- H DeanI received a call from this number saying there was suspicious activity on my U S Bank visa. checked my online account and no activity other than what I've done. SCAM ARTISTS!
- Caller: supposedly US Bank fraud prevention department
- CCScam. Verified with my credit card company. Beware, its convincing.
- FranThis was legit. I called the # on the back of my card and someone is using my card info for purchases.
- Caller: 8003798461
- AnonymousI've received two calls/SMS messages from this company over the past 3 weeks. The first time, there really was fraud on my account. After receiving the text and the voicemail I called the number on the back of my card, and was forwarded to fraud department immediately. The transaction in the SMS and voice mail was confirmed by my bank. My bank canceled the card and sent out a new one.
I then received another text/vm from this same company the other day, however, this time, when calling into my bank (again, number on the back of the card), they had no record of the transaction mentioned in the SMS/VM, and fraud department confirmed the same (no fraud block this time like there was the first time).
This appears to be a sophisticated scam trying to phish identity information. The initial fraud transaction is used to gain trust in their system, hoping you'll bite later and give up personal information if the first attempt doesn't work.
As others have said, ALWAYS CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD. Never give information to a number you receive via SMS, or a number that calls you.
