Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD
Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!
Be Safe, Not Sorry!
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD - CindyOnly thing I was asked for was my zip code and to verify transactions. They had all my info I didn't have to key in my card number. It was a legit call about fraud on my credit union debit card.
- Caller: Fraud alert
- lolliern replies to ebrum84I also got a call, the only problem is I don't have a chase credit card, so its def fraud.
- ErmanI was at work and got a text saying it was the fraud department for my card. They wanted me to text them to verify my card, I deleted it. A hour later this number called me, I don't even have a chase card.
- Caller: Not chase
- JohnCredit card
- JakeNumber was legit. Company that handles check card for banks put a block on my debit card suspecting fraudulent transactions. I contacted my bank directly and they confirmed the contact. No fraud thankfully but good to know they're looking out for you.
- Caller: Check Card Company
- r.j.p.i received two phone calls from a person saying that they have fraud on a credit card from orstown bank and was looking for a mr. dortenzo, this person not known
- Caller: orstown bank
- 1st FinancialGot a call to my cell phone regarding possible fraud. Even got a text right before. I don't have such account. This someone fishing for information.
- Caller: 800-417-4592
- ssIts LEGIT Call!
text came first 1am, Zendesk attempt on card, $1.00. Text asked me to reply with NO if fraud or YES if valid. I did not reply. Then at 8:04 am got CALL from same no., I did not answer.
Called my bank and they verified the 800-417-4592 as legit fraud protection no. Zendesk put $1.00 back themselves, their name has been used before at fraud and phishing attempts, they seem to be legit and are fighting bad guys themselves. Since I did not respond right away to text or call, when 2 more attempts to use card came this morn. (paypal $50 & wpsinglemuslim $36) my bank froze card. They said I should get New Card & I ordered it but now I will have no usable card for week or so. Apparently many companies use this co. & number for fraud Protection.
Good Job by Bank of the Cascades in Oregon, Thanks- Caller: My bank Fraud Dept
- KayWas legit for me. Idk if they asked for personal info because it was actually for someone else in my family and I didn't ask that.

- Gregg SLegit call from Chase Fraud on behalf of my regular bank on my business account. I had made several purchases with my debit card today and one was rather large so that is what triggered the call. They left a message and I called them back. All I had to do was give them my name and billing zip code to verify my identity and them listen to the transactions they were calling about. All I had to do then was press 1 to verify those transactions.
- Caller: Chase Fraud
- KatieThis is a Fraud Monitoring Service. Calls on behalf of banks or credit card companies. It is valid...But go ahead and call your bank.

- PaulineThey sent me a text saying they were from my bank asking me to text verify a charge I didn't recognize. I replied with the fraud option. They replied my card was blocked and would be calling. This account is my main banking account (checking & savings) They called and had me inn hold for several minutes. I hung up. Everyone here is referring to a Chase account. My bank is NOT Chase!!! Beware!!

- Idaho RickThis number left a voice message. It was Washington Trust Bank's Fraud Department. I got the same treatment as some of the other posters about not being able to pull up my account, yet they did get it up via my name and knew the last four digits of my debit card. An online company had posted a membership fee I didn't authorize which somehow triggered the fraud department (?).The person on the fraud line said if I declared the charge a fraud my card would be canceled. I didn't want to have to go through all that, so she said I would have to ACCEPT the charge. I didn't want to do that either so I told her to DO NOTHING, I will call the bank...all a bit suspicious and problem causing for me
I called my bank and found out the charge had been posted. Called the company that posted the charge and had them issue a refund of the charge. All in all, a waste of more than and hour or two to fix the problems.- Caller: Washington Trust Bank Fraud Department

- ZifsterCalled my home phone, left no message. I had never heard of Armstrong Bank, so I googled it. Looks like a real bank, but all its branches are in Arkansas and Oklahoma, and I'm in the northeast.
- Caller: "Armstrong bank"
- MikeHuntletonLegitimate Bank numbers are spoofed by scammers in an attempt to find someone using that bank and trick them into giving personal information.
- CWG40The large number of shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
Fifty-seven entries in this thread and I count about 23 as shill posts.
At a 40 % shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
These type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.
All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)
