Text message from 32874 & e-mail (received within a few seconds of each other) reported a suspicious transaction. E-mail passed SPF checks. Text message said to text back "NO" if it was fraudulent; e-mail said to visit an HTTP (not HTTPS) URL at jhausfrm.jackhenryassociatesfrm.adeptra.net. Both asked me to call this number if charge was legitimate. adeptra.net is registered (via MarkMonitor) to Fair Issac Corporation, which seems to be a fraud-monitoring service provider working for Jack Henry Associates, which is a service provider for banks & credit unions. Bank's SPF record includes email-service.adeptra.com, and adeptra.com has the same registration information. Was not able to look up owner of short code - found several sketchy short-code sites but none had any information.

Responded "NO" to text; received response saying that I should expect a call from them if it's between 8 AM and 9 PM, and that otherwise I should call this number. This number was not on my card or on the bank's web site, so I called the bank's main line from a different phone. Card had been blocked shortly before I called, so the "NO" apparently worked, and they did see the fraudulent transaction.

If my interaction was a scam, it's pretty complicated and I don't see much point to it. I would, however, be highly suspicious of calls FROM this number where the caller asks you to verify your identity instead of proving theirs to you. Caller-ID forgery is easy and it's likely that scammers are forging legitimate bank / bank service provider numbers their outgoing calls.

This is a legitimate number used by a number of banking institutions.  You are always safer calling your bank, but I found the process using this number painless and never gave them my account or other private information.  It just uses your phone number and zip to verify who you are.

    Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your bank,

CALL THE NUMBER ON YOUR BANK STATEMENT

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your bank, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and bank data!

Read the above again, for understanding!

    Be Safe, Not Sorry!

    Not Happy - SCAMMED
While I was out pumping gas, my husband received a call (800-417-4592 caller ID reflects "Armstrong Bank") at home to confirm if I just had purchased gas twice. After pumping the gas, I noticed that my receipt was for an amount less than what I actually pumped. I went inside and asked for my receipt and asked him why the receipt was for the wrong amount. He said he did not know. I specifically asked the clerk fi they had any problems with credit card skimmers being placed on the gas pump and he replied “Yes, but a long time ago.” I then asked him “How long ago?” and he replied “8 months ago”. I stated that that was pretty recent.

I was not satisfied with his reply and and I went back the next day and he told me that the problem was fixed. I proceeded to ask him when was the problem fixed and he said “yesterday”. I was upset…because I was there yesterday! I told him why did you tell me when I was here yesterday. He was probably in on the scam. I will file a police report.

I don't care WHO they are. They called twice and DID NOT leave a message. If they are legitimate, they will leave a message. A year ago, I received a call regarding a charge on the debit card I use for Amazon-they left a message and I called them back to tell them it was legitimate. So, whoever this is calling, with the amount of scammers out there, they should know that most people are going to ignore the call. So.......THEY NEED TO LEAVE A MESSAGE!!!

Caller ID "Toll Free Call".  No message.  In reference to the above:  I have never had an account at  CHASE.  If this is truly legit  Chase Fraud, they should at least put Chase or Chase Bank on the ID.  Then I would have answered my phone and told them I have no association with Chase Bank.

Got a text first.  Then, 2 separate phone calls from this number with the same voice mail......."credit card may be temporarily stopped'.  That's total horse manure.  A credit card is either working or it's not.  PERIOD.

Calls frequently but never leaves message.  If it's Chase, I have no acct with it. With caller ID I don't recognize the number and so don't answer.

    Legit
This number is legit. It is a large, mostly automated, bank/card fraud company that makes calls on behalf of banks. Chase being the largest bank but it is mostly utilized by small local banks. Generally, they do leave a message. If you are unsure, always call you bank/card reps directly. My local bank uses this number and has it listed on their website and the emails they send about fraud, so I trust the number. However, it is highly possible that scammers spoof the number and use it as well since many know it as a legit number.
