yes call control will stop the calls it is a free app for cell phones and i just saw online earlier today you can now get it for you land line. and if you have an internet phone like vonage you can actually turn off your phone while you sleep and have a message stating you don't take calls between certain hours. And when you are expecting calls from your son you just turn off the app if its on your cell so that number can call you. or you put it on your white list and I think it will come through. hope this helps.

The posters who say it isn't a scam are part of the scam.
    The calls are computer generated.

People sound so dumb it's not a scam ! Not everything is a scam! I use this 3 times a week to speak with my friend in jail. It's either prepaid or collect depending on how they call you. So stop freaking out and answer to see who is calling someone you know might be in trouble needing to reach you !

I'm not convinced... replies to Nicole
This is a scam. They would not ask for personal info at the beginning if it was legit. They would ask after the call takes place. I have had people call me from prison before and it was a COLLECT call charged to your phone bill, if you accept the charges, not this automatic ask for credit card information before even talking to the person. Even if rules have changed, why would they ask up front for credit card before even confirming it is someone the person knows? Anyone who says otherwise is full of crap.

Then if 'they' 'need' to stop, you better tell your relative or buddy who is in jail to stop.  The number belongs to Global Tel-Link, and that company contracts with correctional facilities to provide telecommunication services to correctional facilities all over the United States. You put up a deposit to receive collect calls.  The charge depends on the contract with the correctional facility.  Most calls I receive in my law office are from the Orange County Jail and cost $4.00 per call.

There are probably a lot of reports about this number being a scam because any idiot can post something on the internet whether or not he knows what he/she is talking about. Global Tel-Link is not a scam.  This company provides telecommunication services to correctional facilities. Most of our calls are from the Orange County Jail and those calls cost $4.00 to accept.

Do you feel compelled to give advice on the internet whether you know what you are talking about or not? You obviously do not know anything about this number.  It belongs to Global-Tel Link.  They contract with correctional facilities to provide telecommunications services to inmates. An arrestee does get one (in some jurisdictions, two) free call when they are first arrested.  After that, they have to set up accounts with each number they call.  Most law offices set up client deposit accounts for client inmates. It is not a bogus number, and this person does not have the faintest idea what he is talking about.

    I know
Your offender is given a chance to say their name before you have an option to accept and THEN put in cc #. If the offender does not come on the line, then yes it is a scam and hang up.

Of all the ignorant replies to this number, yours was the most hilarious.  Really!  You don't know what the Phuck you're talking about.  Maybe there's some hick jail like Mayberry on The Andy GriffithTV show that has a pay phone, but there haven't been pay phones in any jails I've been in in the last 40 years, and I've been in some pretty small hick town jails up in Kern County and Tulare County. It is understandable to be ignorant, but people like you who are too stupid to know that they are ignorant amaze me.  Yes, inmates DO set up accounts from jail to call people they need to keep in touch with.  My law office also sets up deposit accounts for clients to keep in touch and handle their affairs during incarceration. Some free advice to you - If you don't know what you're talking about, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!  (A warning to people seeking information on this site - Any idiot can post!)

This is the number for Global Tel-Link.  This company provides telecommunication services to correctional facilities. You put up a minimum deposit of $25.00 and, at least here in Orange County, CA calls are $4.00 each to receive.

Hey, I'm not going to go so far as to call you stupid or anything because I don't know your situation.  Maybe back there in the sticks, there are telephones that you can't turn off or unplug.  If you need to sleep, that's what I'd recommend.

Yeah, things change. Most 'real jails' are starting to contract with Global Tel Link or other companies to provide inmate telecommunication services.
