Received a letter of 'Debt Mediation Notice' from CRI - Regional Processor, 6200 Tennyson Parkway, Suite 200, Plano, TX 75024.

It read, I owe a huge amount of money - I DO NOT!!!  They want to 'trim' my debt to half.

They give the phone number but i don't want them to have mine, so i haven't called them back.

    This is a scam!!!

This is not a collection attempt.  This is a third party trying to sell a credit repayment service.  They attempt to scare you with an intimidating and authoritative statement that includes an exaggerated balance, an accusation that you have not responded to the last communication, and demand to contact then no later than a previous date.

The letter entitled Activiation Final Notice, and a grossly exaggerated balance, implies that this is a letter from a party that is authorized by a creditor.  That exaggerated balance is also used as sales ploy to make you think that they just took 5 or 10 thousand dollars off of the balance and that you have achieved a really good settlement arrangement in the end.  The unreadable signature under the "Activation Department" implies that some type of arrangement was already made by the creditor and must be activated and this is msileading.  Cultural symbols of authority are misused, that tear off tab on the side envelope, that half shaded 2011 on the envelope appearing to come from the IRS, postage PAID are all little things to make you think it's official from the start.  In the header of the letter all you see is Activiation Final Notice, not the company's name.  That barcode at the bottom makes you think it might be read by some government department, or one that deals with a high volume of paper, but they never use it; its there to scare you.

Then, when you look in that little bitty paragraph on the bottom, you will note that this is from Credit Arbitrators LLC; A licensed Limited Corporation.  One they can dissolve when a class action lawsuit is achieved.  They advertise that they can renegotiate debts with yoru creditors, so no negoation was made with the creditor as claimed.  They say "Any information will be used for that purpose" to appear as if they are a collector but they are not seeking to collect a debt.  Instead, they are seeking to sell a service that you don't have to purchase by scaring you with an exaggerated debt and telling you that they can get it much lower.  They eventually identify that they are not a lender, creditor, or collector in that little paragraph but while you're sorting out the emotion from the intimidating letter.  They can shift and come out as heros trying to say they have reduced the balance so much but all they did was give that exaggerated balance to make you think you got a deal.

It might not all register with the misused symbols of authority and that's what they are hoping.  They are hoping for stage I of the Kubler-Ross syndrome; i.e  "NO!"   They hope that you get intimidated, call them to find out what it is and then follow through with whatever they have to offer.  By the time you figure out that it's not this terrible communication from the attorney, the IRS, the credit card company, a collector, or however they try to appear on the phone, it's too late and your signed in some negotiation contract that intially appeared to be a good deal.  A little later you'll realize that you didn't really settle for pennies on the dollar like they have claimed because they exaggerated your debt amount in the intiial communication by at least ten thousand dollars.  That makes you fell like you've got a deal.

We live in a mean world and this is not a reputable company.  You will find that Credit Answers LLC, Credit Arbitrators LLC, or whatever name they are using at the time is not your lender but by that time it's too late.  This is not yoru creditor, it's not an authorizied party seeking a debt collection from a collector, its a party trying to trick you into a contract using a misleading practice.

    Good answer.
I figured this company was some lowlife bottom feeder, because I have A+ credit. Your take on this letter they sent me is exactly what I figured it was.

Thanks for the info! This scumbags tried to present themselves as a ligitimate agency when I called (from a blocked number of course) to tell them to take a hike and stop wasting their paper plus my time. It's a shame that in hard times like these that people will work anywhere and do anything for a buck.

Steve... Thank you so much for posting the above info.  I have to admit I was a little surprised getting this letter in the mail today since I have excellent credit. I thought I'd google it first and glad I did.  It's really sad that there are people out there with no morals or values.  I feel so sad for the ones that actually end up getting scammed out of tons of money.  Thank you for saving me and others from wasting our valuable time having to investigate what this ridiculous letter is.

My letter was extremely similar but seemed to be of photo-copy quality.

The big difference is my letter does not have a sganture anywhere! Some of the items such as the barcode are placed differnetly but it still seems to be the same scumbags!

STEVE: Thanks for taking the time to write that out. I also am not in trouble with credit so I was thinking someone got my online information from paying bills online.

Does anyone have an idea how they are choosing who to send it to?

I received a letter from this scam group today - CREDIT RESOLUTION INITATIVE, CREDIT ARBITRATORS, LLC. stating that I owed them an enormous amount of money, and they would reduce the debt by a certain amount.  The letter is titled - DEBT MEDIATION NOTICE -
and supplies a client account number (as if this was an existing account which it is not) . The return address on the envelope is - CRI -REGIONAL PROCESSOR, 6200 TENNYSON PARKWAY, SUITE 200, PLANO, TX.

This is criminal, particularly preying on the elderly - I am going to report this to the Texas Attorney General's office.

Nice info Steve, thanks.   I just got this letter, and got excited, but knew it was too good to be true.   It was not presented in a threatening manner, but offered a credit mediation program that would allow me to of course settle my unsecured debts for less than what I owe.   It even came with a catalog of the various different packages they have to help reduce your debt over  different spans of time.  Very official looking, something that sounds like an attractive offer.  Anything that comes unsolicited and sounds like an attractive offer is usually disingenuous however, so I decided to google it to see how real it was.  Obviously it is  very real... real shady.
