- StevenAmerican Express calling, trying to sell me on some kind of identity theft security plan. I interrupted and said "I'm not interested. Anything else you're calling about?" He said no, gave a number I can call if I had "any questions or concerns about this call" and politely said bye and hung up.
I've found that asking "Is there anything else you're calling about?" immediately upon declining their offer throw telemarketers off-script, so they're less likely to go through the standard follow-up push.- Caller: American Express

- Receiver of call| 1 replyCalls, if it goes to the machine, they hang up.
I answer, they hang up.
Great business plan these folks have. Wasting their time and mine.
Dumb, dumb people.- Caller: Unknown
- kosmosSince Amex is so indifferent about this matter, maybe we might start thinking more outside of the box to, hopefully, make some progress in solving it.
For example, I heard that Chase Bank is having a lot of financial problems and they are afraid that the Feds might not bail them out (You know, too big to fail--just like the dinosaurs were--too big to fail. Ha! Ha!)
I imagine that the ‘fat cats’ at Chase (you know the 1%) probably want to drum up more business so that Chase can go on and on forevermore--too big to fail.
If more and more of us 99% develop more and more ‘bad feelings’ about Amex, we could end it with them and take out credit card business elsewhere--maybe Chase. It’s a gamble, but those ‘fats cats’ love to gamble; but, of course, only if they win. We don’t know what the 1% has up it sleeves. But we can be reassured that most of it is crooked. They love to ’stack the deck.’ They’re criminals, and some of them know it. . . . . . . . . . .
Or, who of us knows it, maybe those companies that sell call blocking phones want more business. . . .
I imagine that there could be a billion and one scenarios.
What’s your idea? - kosmos replies to Receiver of callThe person who reported your post as abusive is not on our side and I assume this person does not believe in free or creative speech.
I certainly agree with you that they are wasting your time. I think they are wasting most of our time. But I don’t think they are wasting their time: I believe they know exactly what they are doing. I don’t know what the heck they are doing, but most likely they know what they are doing.
And I don’t think they are dumb either. I think they are smart; i.e., they are getting away with their criminal activities: so far, very few of us has been able to stop them.
No, I think they are smart alright, and I also think they are sinister.
And those who report our posts as abusive are among them. They’re very cleaver. They are reporting us, the victims, as the criminals.
They think like attorneys. - AnnGot a call right a 9:00 pm last night on my land line. Left no message. They even got around my phone block I set up with my new phone!!! If it were for real they would not call. Instead they send a bill for the amount due.

- nymiGot a call from this number today. I didn't pick up and (surprise!) no message was left. But I appreciate all of you who did pick up and reported here. This is my favourite website. I've read through all the posts and I don't think this is AMEX, because caller ID says UNAVAILABLE. In all the YEARS I've been harassed by these callers, nearly daily, even though I'm on the do not call list, whether I've answered or not I've NEVER received a legitimate call from a number that showed up as UNAVAILABLE. Legitimate businesses identify themselves. We have a presidential election coming up, and this means televised debates. My understanding is that questions can be taken from the public. I would like to see the following questions asked: how many complaints does the do not call complaint website field every year and how many personnel are devoted to the effort and at what cost to the taxpayer? Is there data published for the benefit of the public on what numbers are reported, and how many complaints are acted upon? Are the fines levied sufficient to cover the cost of operating the site? What can be done to eradicate the violators not operating within our borders? Can we set up a national system that will not permit identifications such as "unavailable" attached to phone numbers (those with legitimate privacy concerns can still use call blocking and take their chances whether the caller wants to take the call)? We keep all kinds of statistics in this country, the average number of guns per person, the average number of homicides per day, etc., what about publishing the average number of illegal phone calls per phone number registered on the do not call list based on the numbers of complaints filed on the site?

- Lee in DeThis # is now calling me. Funny how I looked up a # the other day and it was also supposedly from Am ex. I guess the scammers are cloning many different #'s. Just wish i knew why they target all of us? And if you want to conduct business why not leave a message? LOL
Can't wait for my new phone with call block feature to arrive!- Caller: unknown
- AnnoyedI got a call from this number and tried to use my caller rejection service to block it. It wouldn't work. I received another call and answered it. The woman told me they were doing telemarketing for American Express. I told her to take me off the list. THEN, I called the customer service number on the back of my AMEX card - which is not 800-528-4800. I politely told the customer service rep that I was receiving telemarketing calls from 800-528-4800. I asked to please be removed from all telemarketing lists. He said he would make that note on my account and that it could take up to 30 days for my name to get off the lists. I thanked him politely. Hopefully this works.

- Mark| 1 replyIt is American Express offering a new service. I told the operator (nice woman) that it's annoying to pick up the phone again and again and have no one there. She apologized and explained the system dials numbers and when someone answers, it connects to the operator to talk, unfortunately, there is a delay. This is the dead air you hear when you answer the call. If you don't stay on the phone, you never hear the operator answer. (I think sometimes it disconnects on it's own) I told it was irritating. She agreed. I told her if they can't get a better system, to please remove me from their call list. It also came up as "unknown name".

- OlgaSTOP CALLING! If you have something to say then leave it on the answering machine. You obviously are NOT who the caller ID says you are because I don't think that American Express would have such idiots, that don't leave messages, working for them. STOP CALLING!

- SandiThis number calls frequently and hangs up. Using caller id, I called back. Beware, they are trying to get you American Express Number. When I asked which of the four accounts this household has, they, of course, could not tell me. Kept asking for my number. I gave them my phone number and said to look up my account. Of course, they could not do that. BEWARE.
