    Legit....

I do not have a WF account but I received call from WF with a case #.

First call to THE #, the representative was not pushy and was understanding about concern. No sensitive information was exchange but we were able to establish that the account was not mine. Essentially he gave me the initials for the customer on the case # and I could confirm it was not my initials.

So I called WF's Website's recommended 800 # and talked to Branden at WF. He said # is legit for WF Fraud. But only for Debit/Checking.

Transferred me to the # to speak to rep, Kiara. In speaking with Kiara at the #, I explained about my phone # tied to case/customer#, and she said most likely someone had entered wrong phone # for the account. They would reach out to customer in other ways to work the issue.

Don't see how it can be legit, number one I have no accounts what so ever with Wells Fargo.  And I don't know any legit company that would call me at 7:15 am.  Enough said. Filing a complaint with the ftc.  Blocking their ass.

This is the fraud department at Wells Fargo. It is a legitimate number and they will not ask you for any sensitive information.

If you recently disputed a charge on your credit or debit card, they are calling to get more information about the charge or to discuss the status of the dispute.

If you are a business owner, a Wells Fargo customer has disputed a charge made at your business, and they are calling to get more information about the purchase in order to resolve the dispute.

I have the same story as you. I do not have any type of account with WF. They called me this morning at 525am which is illegal. If this is legit they just broke the law.

The number 800-548-9554 is a valid Wells Fargo Number.
I am a Claims Supervisor within said department. It is the Wells Fargo Claims Assistance Center. The people calling this the "Fraud" Department, are not entirely correct, however. This is the Claims Department, meaning that it is both for Fraudulent and Non-Fraudulent claims on transactions for your Debit Card.

To address a few comments above:
Dan - You are correct, we will call you if you own a business to obtain information about the transaction in question in an attempt to resolve the dispute without having to file a Chargeback with VISA.
Ty and DCS - We will call you early in the morning. There is no law that specifically madates times that we are able to call you for a claim. The only law that restricts contact times are laws referencing collection attempts. We have centers on the east coast, which open at 8:00 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, and due to this, you might receive a call as early as 5:00 A.M. Pacific Standard Time. This is an issue that we are trying to correct, as it is not very customer friendly to call at 5:00 in the morning.

I work here, its definitely the claims department and if you filed a claim then that's why we are calling. If you avoid the calls, your claim could be denied for not enough information/ reason for dispute... just saying.

I received a call from this same number but around 11 o'clock at night which to me is pretty weird for a bank. Whomever it was left a mumbled  voice-mail about a claim o something . I haven't filed any claims recently and why would someone call this late in the evening!?  Anytime I filed a claim I've never gotten a call about it but rather a letter. Seems old and fishy to me. I called WF and I was told he didn't see  any claims. He asked for the number which he said  is the number to claims. He transferred me to the claims dept however after  being on hold for 30 mins I hung up. I'll be calling in t later to follow up.

Some people are absolutely clueless.  This number is legitimate. When you call all they asked for is your claim number and ask you question to identify that it is you. I didn't give them any of my banking information as far a my debit card #'s or account #'s.  He ask if anyone else is listed on my account other than myself and what is my current address and what state was the account opened in.  They call be back, because I submitted a claim for a merchant that hasn't discontinued charging my account for a specific amount in which he was able to correctly tell me.  Also, if you call Wells Fargo they can tell you that the number is legit for their Fraud Department.  Jeez!!!!!

...looks like you are the clueless one.  Scammers are known to routinely spoof legitimate numbers, so while your call may have been legitimate, many other posters say otherwise!

The large number of  shillers basically posting to  tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.

This number is  most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real,   is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.

Fifty-five entries in this thread and I count 26 as shill posts.

At a  47  % shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam.  At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.

This  scam is well documented.  Simply google it out.  Based  on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.

These type of calls follow a  similar pattern.  They all  claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions.  Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.

All with the same type of   postings.  All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made.  Or something similar.  They all ask for personal or personal financial information.

Just part of the shillers  criminal MO.

I've noticed the  shill posters often use the same turns of phrase.  Same old, same old verbiage telling  everyone how "legit" the calls are.

Personally I think the group or groups  posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.  They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.

In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you.  If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.

Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far.  (That I’ve been able to find.)
