I received a call from this number yesterday. At first I wasn't suspicious because I had worked with the claims department in the past. But I wondered why I was being called because I knew my current account was secure without hacking. So I gave my account number, which I know by heart. But then the caller asked for me to "verify" something to give her access. I said, "Then you are not Wells Fargo. I am hanging up. Goodbye."

    Hello!
First off, I'd like to say there is no logical reason for you to be here.
You (allegedly) work for Wells Fargo and state "this phone number is, in fact, legitimate" so you have no need to look it up, now do you?

Not called, instead Email received "Wells Fargo Claim <number>:  Investigation Completed" and  "please call us at 1-800-548-9554".   BUT THE REFERENCED ACCOUNT NUMBER AND DEBIT CARD NUMBER ARE NOT MINE!

If this number is legitimate, why do they have "Unknown Name" on the caller ID?  It should say "Wells Fargo".  We got this call yesterday, and the woman left a VM about an un-authorized transaction on a debit card, she was talking too fast to catch it all, but left an 888 number to call. I think it looks sketchy.

Well I think the FBI is taking their time because these people that run this scam just yesterday tried to get into my account and take out 5000!  Hopefully more people see this and don't get scammed!

I doubt that the FBI is actually looking into this.  But then that post was made in 2013 so who knows what they were doing at that time?

    Beware
Somehow the scammer is having WF # show on the caller id, however I was suspicious when they said they were texting a link and to read the number as WF has never done that. I called WF directly and they said that it was in fact a scam. Just be mindful and tell them you will hang up and call the bank directly.

Claims to be Wells Fargo.  IT IS A SCAM.  They cannot provide any information about your account until you give them personal information such as SSN, phone number, account number, PIN number, and user ID.

Scumbags scammers.  Their computer prompt asks for your PIN number to verify your account.  They can never provide any information about your account and continually ask for more info to "verify" your account.  And they never give up the scam even when called out as scammers.

So why did they ask for my entire debit card number and pin number? Wells Fargo doesn't ask for both.

I got called from them today stating that they were questioning a $600 charge on my Wells Fargo account. Supposedly the fees were for contraband CBD and child pornography. they asked me to verify if I had activated the card on March 18 and two verify that these charges had gone through on my account with them that I had authorize them or allowed someone else to authorize someone else. Anyway, I told him I didn’t have time I was driving. I didn’t know what they were talking about. You know what name was when I asked what name was on the account? She didn’t know that information and referred me to her supervisor and then her supervisor came on asking. How may he help me. I said you called me you know so I gave him a brief rundown of what the call was about And he again said this purchase for the contraband and the Kitty porn and again I asked him what name is this card under well he hesitated. He didn’t seem to know what name the account was supposedly under and then the name he gave me was part of my email address, which obviously would not have been the name on my credit card at that point either got disconnected. the call was dropped. They hung up. I don’t know what happened but shortly they were gone. And they didn’t try to call me back. once I could actually see my phone screen I did read that. It stated that it was a scam likely had I known that I wouldn’t have answered the phone.
