    Irritated AGM
They left a message on my work voice mail but never said what company they were calling from, never left the name of the caller and never said what the call was regarding. To me that usually means it's a scam so I googled the number and found all these comments, thank you for saving me from the mistake of returning the call!

Received a letter claiming that $767.19 is owed to UPS. Checked with UPS and the claim number referred to does not exist.
This is apparently a follow up on a phone call from the same source claiming money was owed them

    DONE!
Purchased supplies from Medical Arts Press aka Quill.  We sent them a check and paid the bill, but they never posted the check/ never cleared.  We called to follow-up and then started getting harassing calls and bills from RMS.  One was an offer to pay half/settle which we sent a money order and paid in full.  Now they are calling and harassing for more money.

They called my BUSINESS looking for my mother to collect debt for a waste management company.  The man calling said it was regarding an overdue bill.  He couldn't give me any information on the name of the company he was collecting debt for.  When I called my mom to tell her she had no idea what I was even talking about, and she said she has never used a waste management company.  When I called the number back I spoke to another man who asked for my phone number, and I was told that he was trying to contact the business that previously had this phone number.  When I said that the first caller had asked for my mom by name, he said that is weird because that name isn't listed on this account....I don't know what is going on there, but there is definitely something fishy.  It NEEDS to be taken care of.  This cannot be a legitimate debt collector.

There seems to be a lot these type of calls going on lately.. some phishing for info and then you start getting calls saying you owe..  they call family, friends and business which is illegal all on its own and in violation of the FDCPA laws.

Risk management....I get calls from these people a lot. They tell me I owe money to waste management. I've never heard of these people nor do I owe money to them. I even googled and called waste management. They do garbage pick up. I don't have garbage pick up...I go to the recycling center. And risk doesn't even have the right address for me. These people don't listen to reason they just threaten to sue or have me arrested. And I always say the same thing: "Go ahead".

As of 2010, RMS is owned by iQor, according to the rmsna.com web site.

Wikipedia sayeth, "In 2012, a CBC news investigation found that iQor routinely and sometimes knowingly repeatedly contacted people who did not owe debt. The investigation noted that in 2012, two Canadian provinces had fined iQor for violating provincial regulations.[3] In 2010, Allied Interstate, a subsidiary of iQor, was fined 1.75 million by the Federal Trade Commission for harassing debtors and trying to collect from the wrong people."

No, they can call between 8 am and 9 pm 7 day's a week. The DNC does not apply to debt collectors. However, the FDCPA laws and TCPA laws do apply..

    A Collection Agent May Not…

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

    Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

    Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

    Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

    Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer’s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

    Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector’s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

    Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

    Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

    Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer’s debts with third parties other than the consumer’s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

    Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Called to collect on a WASTE MANAGEMENT BILL
If you owe them money, they will take 80% settlement. Never pay 100%.
Waste management ripped me off by tacking on a $43 fee for "fuel charge" which they never mentioned over the phone. I refused to pay it.
These people from RMS are relentless and will call you 7 days a week. They also told me they do not report to collection agencies, but Waste Management does. Who knows if that is true or not, but I'd assume RMS does not.
    Hope this helps.
RMS and waste management can suck on my toes. I'll never use waste management again.

Seriously called our private business before 9am. Told them we weren't interested in telemarketers, the guy started shouting at me, so I yelled and told him it was too early in the morning for this nonsense and hung up on him. Ugh, it's too early for this...
