- Charlotte Tiptonthe man was Chinese or Indian and had a heavy accent, at first could not understand and then when I told him my husband would take care of this and he could call back and he started saying "Can't you operate your computer. There are people from outside of the United States using your computer and id and we need to show you go to your computer". So I went to my computer and then he said "See the 4section windows flag? Push that and the letter r at the same time" I did and a word came up "prefetch" well when that happened I stopped and got back out of the window and told him I was ending this call and he could call back later when my husband was at home." Then I hung up.

- DeniseJust received a call from this number. Wanted to give us our Microsoft refund for $300 and needed me to provide my information so he could provide my refund. I continued to ask why he needed the info, they should have it if their system says I need the refund, I kept telling them to mail a check and they hung up on me. Scam!!!
- Caller: Microsoft
- PamZHave received several calls. They tell me my computer is sending out thousands of emails to Germany and Russia. What scared me is that they have my email address????? Not sure if I should change that. My called ID showed AUG was the company calling. Ran computer security and everything's OK. Also did a malware program and it found 2 which I deleted.

- I answered the same # and he said I got. replies to JerichoI got a phone call from this #. The guy said I had $9,000 due me from the IRS. Obama signed a bill called American Recovery Reinvestment Act. Gotta shower then I'm going to look that up. Obama did sign a bill that not many know about. It's supposed to be added to your refund if you bought something of value last yr. the returns can be anywhere from a small sum to a large sum. But, this is not what it is cause I talked him into giving me a phone # to verify. He gave me an approval ID # and the # to call back is 202- 838-6196, which is in another country, too. I'm getting 7 scam calls everyday from all kinds of #'s. so I look everyone up and write it down. Be careful. There's a lot of scammers out there. It can say they are calling from a state but if you dig on google, you can find that that area code got transferred to a different co.

- Central CaliGot a call on my cell from this number. A voicemail was left by a computer generated female voice stating, "Hello this is Microsoft we have received hacking alerts from your computer please press 1 to continue..." Sounds completely made up. I'm not calling back or answering their calls.

» Your post here will NOT stop the calls. We did not call you. Your caller probably does not read these messages. We cannot block calls to you. We cannot put you on or take you off the list. We do not know who you are, and we do not know your phone number!Click_This_Line_for_Info_About_the_DNC_ListThe National Do Not Call list is respected by legitimate telemarketers, but is ignored by criminal telescammers.
Surveys, charities, political calls, NON-sales calls and certain preexisting business calls are exempt from the DNCL.
Business phones do not qualify for DNCL protection.Click_This_Line_for_Info_About_800Notes_PurposeFind out who is calling and why: Debt collectors, telemarketers, charities, and survey companies often call without leaving a message. Lookup the number to read the previous reports of other users.
Report telemarketing calls: Make the Do Not Call list offenders notice the problem by reporting their practices. No business wants bad publicity.
Report phone fraud: Did someone try to scam you? Reporting the number is the fastest way to make public aware, and prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
Check out a business: Read other users' feedback about the phone number owner.
»YOU are your own best defense against unwanted calls! You can use a call blocking app, device, service or procedure to block such calls.Click_This_Line_for_Methods_to_Block_CallsHere are some tried and true methods for reducing or eliminating repeated spam / scam phone calls:
1. Do not answer the phone if you see an unknown number on your Caller ID ... let it go to answering machine or voicemail. Many telescammers hang up after three or four rings.
2. If you have a smartphone, get one of the inexpensive or free call blocker apps at your online app store, and learn how to use it.
3. If your cell is not "smart", read the manual to learn how to set up a "group". Assign the scammer's phone number to that group. Also assign a "silent ring" to that group. You will not hear future calls from that number.
3a. Alternately, assign a "silent ringtone" as the DEFAULT ringtone. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to friends, family, contacts, businesses, etc. That way, you will not hear your phone ring, even if the scammer changes numbers! (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers, so be careful!)
4. For cell phones or landlines: Contact your phone service provider. They may have a facility or method to allow you to block numbers.
5. For landlines: there are several call blocking devices and services available. Use your favorite search engine to find one.
6. DO NOT call unknown numbers back without checking who called (800notes is your friend)! All that does is verify your number is "live". Instead, read this:

Well, so happens Microsoft did repairs to my computer because I fell for a scam 3 days prior. It said to press 1 all I got was dead air so I hung up. I then called the # back and it was back to Microsoft, I think, who told me there was no refund and they would not call. Almost afraid to answer the phone anymore.
