- erica| 1 replySo I know now that it's HSBC Card Services. They have more numbers as well. Both Orchard Bank and Capital One are calling. Yes, I am late on my payments, but that's because I'm in a financial bind since two months ago. Does this mean I should suffer even more by receiving 2-3 calls every hour? That's not going to make money that I don't have right now magically appear either. Though if it did, I'd be rich within hours.
Apparently they are allowed to call an unlimited amount of times from around 8 am to 9 pm. One lady insisted that it's impossible to receive a call after 9 pm and "did not want to argue with me about that." I called them back about this today. The b*tches act like THEY loaned you the money from their purse!
Anyway, I wanted to know what I could do, not just who was calling. One thing that may help is to write a seize & assist letter which tells them that you want all communication to come through the mail instead of your phone line. In the letter, you must include things like your name, account #, and a reason you don't want them to call (not the real reason we'd like to tell them, but a reason they will be likely to accept, like "my phone was transferred to someone else's name so I don't receive calls on that line anymore, so please send communication to my billing address until I can provide a new number, thank you ever so kindly").
Here is the address for HSBC:
HSBC Card Services
ATTN: Seize and Assist Department
PO Box 5203
Carol Stream, IL 60197-5203
Here is the address for Capital One:
Capital One
ATTN: Seize and Assist Department
PO Box 30285
Salt Lake City, Utah 84130-0285
Once they receive the letter, they are supposed to stop the phone calls, and bombard you will mail instead. We'll see if this works. Good Luck.
P.S.- To those of you who don't even have an account, or are not past due, I advice you to write a letter as well. Most likely someone who was being harrassed just changed the phone number on their account to avoid calls, which may have been your number, and I'm sure they didn't think that you'd get harrassed once you told them it wasn't your account. But these companies are nuts and think your first thought in the morning is about how important it is pay them above all else. Basically, they punishing us for making them rich. And those who are not past due, include your account number in the seize & assist letter, asking them to see for themselves that there is no reason to be calling you.- Caller: HSBC/Orchard Bank/Capital One

- Saro replies to jeff borja| 1 replyMe too. I informed them the second time I answered that the person did not liv here, and I don't know them. The calls stopped for about a month, but recently restarted. I've begun to pick up when I see the number on caller ID, but not say anything. I han up again when I hear the incessant beeping of an unengaged phone line.
- Healthnut| 1 replyI have received over 100 calls from this number on my cell phone. I am unfortunate enough to have an account with HSBC Card Services. I have asked for the account to be closed but they actually refused to close it and send me a bill for the balance. They want me to keep it open and collect more late and overlimit charges. These people are legalized loan sharks!!! Their website is www.householdbank.com FYI

- Tweet1-800-684-8429 calls our office several times a day asking for one of our employees. When we ask to take message they say it is personal. We tell thme no personal calls are allowed. We now are telling them this person is not here at all. We have asked them to stop calling, they don't.

- Kristen| 11 repliesThey've called me three times today. Twice when I wasn't home, but still. Pretty ridiculous. I never answer the phone if it says "unknown name" - I figure if it's important, they'll leave a message. Now to go report this to the Do Not Call List...
- KristenI'm reporting this... again. They've called 7 times in the past two days (some of the time while I'm away at work, but still.. ridiculous! if it's so important, leave a message!)
Anyway, I gave in and decided to give them a piece of my mind. I picked up and said "Hello?" Nothing. So I hung up. My mom has told me if you say hello twice, then the computer system or whatever will pick up. So I only say it once, and if nothing happens, I know for sure it's a telemarketer (although the excessive calling and the fact that it's sn 800 number is enough proof for me!)
Reporting this again to Do Not Call List. This is insane. - KristenGuess who called again? I answered and it started a recording, then went to a person. She asked for an Eva S. and I told them it was a wrong number. Very strange.

- tiredofcallsNow that I know for sure who they are I'm not answering. For one thing, if we had the money to pay the debt, they wouldn't be calling now would they? I feel like telling them that I can't make money appear before me. They don't seem to understand that we are working as fast as we can to make our payments but we can materialize that money just because they're calling me on a Sunday. That really upsets me since I thought it was illegal to make those kinds of calls on Sundays. Oh well...I'll just continue to let it ring b/c I am not answering their calls.

- naThis number calls all the time without leaving a message for the person that they are trying to reach. So they calls 4 or 5 times a day back to back every day if they leave a message that is one thing but to call that nany time is harassing. The number is 1-800-684-8429 800 services
- joeless than one week late on one payment and I get around 10 a day for the last week. the payment has been sent! I'm just waiting for them to process the check! ridiculous!
- Caller: HSBC
- BGI've started getting a call from this number AT MY OFFICE for about a week and they probably call 2-3 times a day. I've never gotten a message from them either. The funny thing is that I actually have no business with HSBC or Orchard Bank, nor do I have any outside credit accounts in trouble. This is extremely annoying. I think I'll go with MS's advice from June 2007.
