I owe prob around 6K in debt, from mid 2000's - and I am not paying any of them ever... because I don't feel like it.. By the way, I got this call today, I answered it and told them they owe me 2000 because I was in the middle of creating a 5000 piece of art in my toilet bowl. And they can expect the bill in 3 days.

It's CitiBank, who bought HSCB, attempting to "collect a debt," as in they don't want you (us) to have the HSCB credit cards anymore because they don't make profit off them. I receive the calls 10-15 times per day and my card is current. My guess is until we cancel our old HSCB cards or they expire, we'll be getting these calls.

Maybe they all just have a bad situation they are trying to get out of. I know that is my problem and calling
me every hour on the hour or maybe more is not helping me concentrate to get out of the mess. I make payments maybe just not what they think they shoud be so calling just upsets me to where I can't really figure out what to do.. But I agree MOST BILL COLLECTORS ARE SLIME BUCKETS and are probably in the same shape as most of us in this stupid suck a...s economy. Not having a job for 2 yrs and gas being 4.00 a gallon, groceries getting higher and higher every week, utilitiy bills and gas bills, it's easy to get into a mess. I'm glad that some of you are so perfect that you do not have any problems... GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!

After receiving numerous calls I looked up this number that's what brought me say this. I never understand how one human can cause such pain and stress. Debt collectors are the lowest form of human alive. They thrive on the pain of others. Just like those people that foreclosed on those people's home illegally . I agree there are some people that are just crooks and the credit card company's have a right to get their money back. But their are far more scum working as collectors than there are scum trying to steal money from banks. They could be nicer to people and try to work with people having a hard time. I thought President Obama was going to make an effort to help people who are effected by the crapy economy. But nothing did he do! I don't believe in heaven or hell but I do see karma at  work. Debt collectors you have one life only and the bad way you treat people will come back on you! Get another job that you don't have to mistreat others or you may find the cloak of karma wrapped around you!

wow, this place is crazy with people calling each other out.  I do agree that this is the only company that if your late , calls about ten times a day and everyday of the week.  It makes me not want to pay because of how rude they are.  They call and it goes to voice mail and they turn around and call two more times within  minutes of each other.  That is horrible debt collecting and a way to handle a business where customer service should be a top priority.  The calls have annoyed me to point of not making a payment so I can hang up on them ten times a day.
Oh well what do you do.

hating on people who accept debt collection as a job is naive... people need an income and especially in poor economic times, accepting a completely legal job collecting debt from people have foolishly built up an unmanageable amount is nothing worth wasting your hate on.  The person on the phone is just an average Joe who goes home and has a beer while watching his or her favorite sitcom, they aren't the reason you owe money and they're not the reason you're getting calls, they're just trying to earn enough to cover rent and put food on the table.  I am not a debt collector but a friend of mine is and I think it's got to be a rough job being hated on by everyone when all you're trying to do is earn a living.

If people legitimately owe a debt, yes, they should pay.  However, many of these people don't even owe to debt collectors and they're still getting calls!  So how the h*ll are they slackers?  Lots of people do pay their bills, so take your self-righteous BS elsewhere!

I agree - there ARE legitimate debt collectors who observe to the letter (and spirit) of the FDCPA.  I used to work at a credit union, and their collections department goes above and beyond to help the members.  HOWEVER - you have to recognize that there are way too many debt collectors who willfully disregard the rules and regulations of the FDCPA.

Most of the people here are posting about calls for either the wrong person, a debt which has already been settled or even a bogus debt.  Most people DO want to pay their debts, and violating the terms of the FDCPA is not the way to get them to pay when they're having a rough time because of layoffs, disability, medical bills, etc.  In fact, violating the terms of the FDCPA is a good way for a collections agency to end up paying the debtor (and yes, lawyers will take these cases and win for their clients who have been illegally harassed).

Yes, there are deadbeats, but just because a person keeps getting these calls does not make them a deadbeat.  The debt collector has to prove that they owe the debt they are calling about.

If they got the credit card for your son, and your signature is not on the contract, you have NO obligation to pay - this was fraudulent!  I would talk to a consumer lawyer.

I think most people do not mind a debt collector trying to collect a LEGAL debt in a LEGAL way.  But all the harassment is not right and all the dirty little tricks they pull is wrong.  Probably more might pay but few are going to pay anything after being treated like these dirt  bags treat people   If I won a 300 million lottery I would not pay anyone of them but would hire a dozen lawyers and place some badly needed law suits againist  these dirt bags as the FTC allows them to do whatever they want.

Called this morning at 8:15 am, woke me up... I don't usuallyanswer if I don't know who it is, but my son lives in another country and uses a  prepaid card, and it shows a long number (varies) that starts with "1"  for some reason this number has the 1 with it showing(1800....) says unknown name. I said "hello" someone, sounded like a young girl said "hello" softly, then nothing. I could hear sounds in the back like an office. I didn't say anything else- she didn't, I finally hung up. I don't, and never have had a Household Bank credit card, I don't have any credit cards and live on low income (SS) and cant get any if I wanted them. I have had companies call me looking for someone else, once looking for someone who, I think, lives down the street from me. They must get phone numbers for the street. do they think if people don't pay (or can't) calling them over and over, or who they think are friends and relatives, will help?  Oh well, I've been saying I want to get up earlier, anyway, so they did me a favor in a way. LOL
