I have been getting DAILY calls on my answering machine FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. The message tells me to contact Verizon Wireless at 800-754-0961 about my Wireless account. I have NEVER had a wireless account with Verizon. I finally called back to tell them to take me off the list. They said they'd be happy to help me if I gave them my account number or social security number. I've never done business with them so I didn't have an account number and I certainly wasn't going to give them my social security number since the phone company never requires you to give out your SS# to open up an account in the beginning! After asking them a series of uncomfortable questions, the reps got very flustered. The first one "accidentally" disconnected the call with me. I called back and gave the same treatment to the second rep who answered. He gave me a bunch of bogus "answers." When I told them I was reporting them to the authorities AND the "Do Not Call" registry, the calls immediately stopped. I haven't had a call in 2 weeks which is a far cry from the last 18 months when I've gotten a call from them every single day.

I also received a call from 949-286-3311 and actually spoke to the caller.  She was calling my husband's account and asked him to call the 800-754-0961 number back.  I then googled the number and found a lot of phishing warnings.  So I called 611 from my Verizon phone.  The agent called the 800 number and told me it was in fact a Verizon number.  Not believing, I pressed further telling him about my google search and asked him to verify with whatever department handles phishing.  He ended up confirming with his financial services department that the number was correct.  I still feel uneasy about it though.

I work at an office.  The young sounding gal asked can I speak to _________, the last name of who I work for.  I immediately knew she seemed to be a telemarketer or illegal caller because I hear lots of people in the background talking.  She said she was from Verizon and I gave her a tongue lashing letting her know that calling people by their last name is a sign of disrespect.  She says, "I apologize but that is the only information I have."  I told her, how do you know he's the one you need if you don't even know the gender?  It amazes me that they have the gall to leave their toll free number.  Good post by Cawaian, very helpful.

My caller ID read "unavailable" for the 4th time today, but they left a voicemail the this time. It was automated, and said it was Verizon Wireless, but part of the message was cut off. Everytime I get a 2 month balance, this happens. However, this is definitely fraudulent, I used to work at Verizon and this is not how they conduct business. I receive mail if my account gets too far behind, which has only happened once before. Do NOT give out your information. EVER.

That number calls me multiple times a day and its really starting to piss my the eff off, because its my cell phone and I have no clue how they got my number..

Me too! I keep getting phone calls from that number, I know my account is not overdue, and they called the other day and I answered and the talking was in and out and then it was asking to speak to the account holder, my moms name, and I hung up on them. But, i keep getting their phone calls, wtf?

my daughter who is 11 gets this number on her phone all the time.  at least once a day recently.  i will be reporting to verizon wireless ASAP.  i think this is a scam!

Really???  This number keeps calling my cell phone and not leaving messages.  I AM late on my bill so I figured it really was Verizon Wireless. I have not answered it but I did try to text it the date I would be paying my bill. Did NOT give any personal info, tho. Thanks for the warning.

Received a call 11/26/2008 from 800-754-0961 and the person told my family member that my bill was past due and I needed to call Verizon back at 800-754-0961 as soon as possible.My family member asked the person what my number was but the person did not have my phone number yet they claim to
be with verizon.This is a scam!

I've been getting calls to my home phone almost everyday in the morning telling me to call verizon wireless. First red flag is the fact they're calling my HOME phone which is not associated to my wireless account at all (if Verizon Wireless wants to call me they can call my cell).
Caller ID shows either Unknown Number or "TENNESEE", but message asks me to call back to 1-800-754-0961.

By the way, I don't know if this is related, but I tried to check my Verizon Wireless account online and it said it was blocked for "too many attempts to login" which sounds fishy.

Recorded message saying that it was from Verizon Wireless "regarding your account".  First red flag - I am NOT a Verizon customer nor will I ever be, based on very negative experience with their land-line service several months ago.  Message continued: "Please note that this is not a sales call.  It is very important that you dial #PMT free from your mobile phone or call 1-800-754-0961 immediately".  I dialed #PMT and was told that my call could not be completed as dialed!  I dialed almost all of the 800 number - when my better judgment told me to STOP - and to Google the number.  (Did that with another suspect phone number a coupla weeks ago, and came upon this site ;) So - based on what others have written here, I'd leave it alone

I received a call today that went to voice mail, the message was cut off and only said 754-0961 emmeditly.  I check the number where it came from it was 949-286-3311.  I did not know what it was about so, I Googled the number I had and found this web page.  Thanks for the advise.

A call was received saying it was from verizonwirelss...hit #PMT or cal;l 1-800-754-0961...did not do so....Really is annoying.  Not the first call. I just ignore these calls.
