I received this call and a text at the same time asking if one charge was legit.   I don't answer numbers I don't know and checked on here.

I too was a little worried. It asked me to enter my card number and I did not. Then it asked me to enter last 5.  The recording had my name and my other card holders name.  After entering the 5, it told me about possible fraudulent charges.  I hung up and called the number on the back of my card and they confirmed it was them calling.

Got texts alleging charges to itunes from American Express.  Called American Express number ONLY on back of the actual card.  No one tried to use my card.  This is a total fraud where you respond to the text or dial their number where it will be directed to the scammer's number.  Scammers then pretend they are Security and try to get your social security number and other personal data to open accounts.  I believe that the responses that this is a legit Am Ex number are either the Scammers or just really stupid.  Ignore these contacts they are professional scammers that do this for a living!

Called 2/28/17 11:10AM. Left half of a voicemail message. Suspect it was due to a robocall and recording. Gathered that it was AMEX wanting to verify some charges. I checked my accounts online and I don't have any fraud alerts nor any unusual activity. Will ignore this one based on others stating that this could be a scam.

I don't have an AMEX card and they called me, so it must be a scam.

Received text message from this # at 4am.  Stating i had a fraud charge on my AMEX card.  Funny thing, I dont have an AMEX card.  I called the number, pressed "0", and the lady never announced herself as working for AMEX let alone the fraud department of AMEX.  She asked for my SS#.  I went on to tell her I did not have a card with them.  She said that they needed the SS# to look up and see whats going on.  I said i wouldnt give her my SS# and was willing to give her my street address.  She immediately hung up on me.  TOTAL SCAM!!!

This is a complete fishing SCAMMMM! Do not call, respond, or communicate this number. Call the number on the back of your card. Simple... What is disheartening is there are posts back from 2013, (this being 2017) and these criminals  haven't faced justice yet. Again don't be stupid call the number on the back of your card. Don't fall for the phoney testimonials. Think about it... This is a site to find out about suspicious numbers. Who would  come to this site to report that a number wasn't fraudulent???

This number phoned me at 8:20 this morning on both home and cell, and left message to call about AMEX on my home line. I did not answer as there was no ID on calls. But I called the "real" AMEX and it was legit - someone had gotten my info (not my card) and started attempting online purchases, so they are cancelling and sending new card.... and going after the online purchaser. Nothing on "call type" applies. This was really AMEX and they verified 800-824-9289 as AMEX.

I did not call this number.  I called the one on the back of my card and it was definitely a fraud alert.  Glad I called, but I would still just call the number on the back of your credit card for safety!!

I didn't answer it as it is an unknown number. No message left on my voice mail. I don't have AmEx.

I missed a call from this number and also got a text telling me to call this number.
Called the number and it was AmEx fraud, they asked for my full card number. There had been a suspicious charge I hadn't made. They canceled my card and shipped out a new one.

The suspicious charge didn't show on my online statement. I called the AmEx number on the back of my card and the confirmed the call had been legit, they confirmed my cars number had already been changed and the fraud department was shipping me a new card.

This number IS NOT ALWAYS A SCAM!
To be safe call the number on the back of your card immediately and ask to be connected to the fraud department.

Phishing! This is NOT AMEX. This is a scam to get your personal info. Call the real AMEX to confirm.

I've gotten 3 calls from this number.  They do not leave a message.  They sent a text asking me to call this number, but I don't have an American Express card and, if it was legitimate they would leave a message.  I have had accounts with issues before, and the company left a message for me to return their call.  As others have said, scammers can make it look like they are calling from a different number than they actually are.  Not a legit call.
