When someone picked up the phone they said "hello" then asked for "Sterling Dancer", and they were asking if anyone was here by that name and if they had called the wrong number.  I told the ditz that I had called her.  Then I asked to stop calling me & that I would have done so months ago but as I read on these message boards, it doesn't help & they keep calling anyway.  She said "This is a collections agency.  Why would we keep calling a wrong number?!" and hung up on me.  So I called about 30 times and hung up on the recording, hoping to try to flood the call center with dropped calls so as to adversely affect their call statistics.  When I called later to see if I could speak with a human being instead of the monster I spoke with earlier, the lady said my number had been removed already.  Somehow, I just don't believe them.

    Jeff Dalton replies to Riiser
Contrary to Mr. Riiser's comments above, Hyde & Swigart is a spectacular law firm. However, "Mr. Riiser" is a debt collector who was recently sued by Hyde & Swigart, and he is bitter. Consequently, being that he had his head handed to him the day before he posted this, he is venting his anger.  And, being a debt collector, he is also a liar. Because Hyde & Swigart protect consumers at no cost, it drives debt collectors like "Mr. Riiser" crazy. If you want quality legal help, see Hyde & Swigart. (And one more thing - "Mr. Riiser" doesn't know what he is talking about. A reading of the opinion he cites demonstrates that Hyde & Swigart did not file the lawsuit. Further, the court held Hyde & Swigart did nothing wrong. Finally, the client is bankrupt - he has paid nothing.) "Mr. Riiser," you are a bitter, bitter, bitter, debt collector.  Get a real job.

My husband's parents keep getting calls from this number over the past year. Today my mother-in-law finally got man (Bill Johnson) to tell her what the collection was suppose to be for (of course illegal since she not my husband) it was for a Huntington Bank line of credit that he supposedly opened in 1980 (that would make him 3). They told her if the money was not paid by 4pm today both my husband and father-in-law would have legal action taken. My husband called they would not connect him to the person his mom spoke to. The girl(dont know her name) then told him it was a checking account over drawn amount needed $1100 but if he paid today it was only $700. Husband told her he was told that it was a line of credit. She said she was not able to tell what type of account it was since she did not have clearance to see it and Bill was a manager. Husband told her never had account she got rude, he called huntington they had him in the system as having an account that was acquired in a bank merger that had been closed, but that was it. The bank rep said that Apelles should have all info and be able to provide it. (Since this took place when he was 3, we are worried about identity theft). Called Appelles back husband told them he wanted a statement sent that showed the details of the account because we think it's ID theft. The man (lamont) told him he needed to pay the account immediately regardless he owed $1100 but if he paid today it would only be $700. My husband said he wanted to see details on the account, including copies of his signature page (again, since we think it's id theft wanting to protect ourselves). Lamont kept repeating he needed to pay immediately, my husband said he would not pay anything until he was able to see details in writing to try and sort through this with our family attorney. Lamont hung up...

So is it ID theft and a legit but rude collection agency or is it a "boiler room" (I know wrong industry, but don't know collection lingo)collection agency giving enough info hoping you'll just get too scared to question and pay up without looking into details?

The Better Business Bureau doesn't even list them. That's probably foreboding enough.

This is their "culture" according to their website:
At Apelles, our organizational philosophy is based on the tenets of the Associate - Service - Profit Chain. Everything we do is driven by the associates that work here and the Culture they have created. This Culture of Success is what attracts talented associates to Apelles where they stay and grow professionally while strengthening our business.

From the comments here, it doesn't seem to fit well with how they handle "clients" or "customers". Shady.

Hey bimbo, how about you actually read what someone said before you start trying to attack them like an idiot. They said the company wasnt looking for them but their brother. Why dont you go do your homework and whine to daddy instead of making a fool of yourself online?

I do owe a debt to this company (for extortionist bank fees from US Bank) and I made a payment to them as agreed.  Three weeks later I received a call at work...I told them not to call my work, that I was dealing with it.  They demanded the entire sum be paid by the end of the month, I said that is impossible.  I will pay what I can.  I suggested $50 a month, they said that wasn't enough and I should hire a lawyer.  They have called my work every day since.  I feel like since I made a payment they think I'm made of money.  I barely make it paycheck to paycheck and pay my bills before buying groceries....so I wouldn't consider myself a deadbeat.  Isn't it in violation of some law to keep harassing a person at work ... especially when you've shown cooperation and a willingness to pay your debt?

Name that appears on caller ID is The Palace. Upon talking to the caller he asked for a person with three different names, which make me think they had no idea of who they were looking for. The caller gave his name as Gary and stated that he was calling from Apelles.

I received call after call when I made one payment (I do owe a debt).  I agreed to pay the following month, but they kept calling 2 weeks after my initial payment.  I accidentally got one of the reps on the line at work.  I demanded they cease calling me at work (but they continued to call because "oh my notes don't say anything like that") One guy was incredibly rude.  I asked if the call was being recorded and he said it was, but there was no disclaimer.  He told me they were turning the matter over to their attorneys and I should hire a lawyer.  If I could afford a lawyer I would have enough money to pay the debt before it went to collections!  But that's another story.  A few days later I accidentally got another one on the phone at work.  I am always calm and civil, but direct and firm.  This lady was genuinely pleasant and after listening to me complain that I'm not to receive these calls at work she offered me a substantial settlement discount which I have happily paid off.  By the way....the debt was for bank fees from US Bank...that's an even more horrific story!!!

My answering machine has been pagued by "This is a important business call from Apelles...." . This company has called for weeks without disclosing what or who they are calling for.It is never a "live" operater, just a recording of a woman's voice. My CID always registers it as an 800 service. The number they have been using is 1-877-825-4490.

HEllo  do not make me a part of your debt collection  I do not work for you.  The hang up an make no attempt to stop the calls. The best thing I can think to do is give them phone numbers for my legistrators so they can see what it is like and get rid of their ridiculous business practices.  Maybe also get phone numbers for business in their town of Westerville OH 43081  and call Apelles with the name of the debtor they called you about an give them a number of one of their local businesses to harass...as the debtors new number...
