- irsI too received this letter...I feel it is a scam and I AM taking it into the IRS tomorrow morning. Don't believe when people tell you they spoke with IRS...Call for YOURSELF and find out.
- MarissaMine was not fraud I brought it to IRS to ask

The letter may be real, but scammers spoof known legitimate numbers, so don't trust a call to be someone actually from the IRS. Hang up and call them to be sure if it was in fact them calling you.Quote:From the IRS:
UNDERREPORTER (AUR)
The assessment will be a TC 290 preceded by a TC 922. The originating campus may be determined from the address in the upper left corner of the CP 2000 (if available) or from the first two digits of the TC 922 DLN. If the first two digits of the TC 922 DLN are 07, 08, 18 or 89 it is a W&I taxpayer. If the first two digits of the TC 922 DLN are 19, 28 or 29 it is a SB/SE taxpayer.
Note:
Route taxpayer phone calls to AUR toll free numbers.
The W&I toll free number is 1-800-829-3009 for TC 922 DLN beginning with 07, 08, 18 or 89.
The SB/SE toll free number is 1-800-829-8310 for TC 922 DLN beginning with 19, 28 or 29.- Caller: Informational Posting
- RobertReceived this letter this year. Says I owe taxes from 2016, though I am verily sure that I did my taxes correctly. It says it was from Jan 2 2018 and I needed to reply by February 1. However, last week my father called me and said someone contacted my grandmother from a jail in NJ asking for bail money - which was roughly about the same amount I "owe."

- Shirley replies to EDSo the no. Is the IRS?
- Shirley replies to Alisha| 1 replyAre you sure it's a fuard . I got a letter with this no. Also .
- Mike-in-MD replies to ShirleyIf you call the number you will reach the IRS Underreporting Department. Unlikely scammers are going to send a letter directing you to call a real IRS number. But if you are concerned about it you can call the general IRS number 1-800-829-1040 or if there is an IRS office close to you, take the letter to them to examine.
However, if you receive unexpected calls claiming to be the IRS, hang up and call a known number to determine if there really is a problem you need to deal with. - Debbie| 1 replyI also just received same letter saying we owed $18,657.00. The phone number is a scam! I am NOT paying...tearing letter up and I advise all to do the same.
- Jolly replies to garyI got one of those, Im actually on the phone with a rep. will update on what they say
- Eddie replies to garyI got a letter also, mine has the same phone number as yours. It claims I filed my 2016 in error but when I look it up on H&R Block website, it is right.
- BelindaI received the same letter. We have been waiting and letting time pass because well, no one wants to pay $1,000 that were yours and are now being asked to return. So, today I created an account on the IRS website to finally pay it at once. The balance owed on is $0, according to the website. Hmmm.. I am thinking it is fraud but I will be calling the number listed on the website (800-829-1040) so they can confirm that the balance is $0.
- Rickie JoeHoy recibí una carta con este numero 18008298310 diciendo que son el IRS y que les debo 7600 dlls porque no reporte 24 mil dlls que gane de más en el 2016, por lo que veo aquí es un tremendo fraude..

- Mr Lau| 1 replyGot the same letter stating that I owe 1590 from 2016. I called the 18008291040 and the rep. Said they don’t Recognize that phone number (800)8298310. And I owe 0 to the irs. [***] fraud man.
- SteveI received the official-looking letter, called this number, and resolved the issue of money the IRS initially claimed that I owed. However, the letter and the "IRS agent" also claimed that with the information that I provided, I had now overpaid my taxes by a small amount. They will send me a letter in a few weeks, but if they ask me for my bank account number to deposit the overpayment, I think I'll have them either send me a check or apply the overpayment to next year's return.

- carolyn F. ForlnesSomeone who represented themselves as the IRS sent us a 14- page land-mailing fronm Atlanta, GA, trying to defraud us out of $2,48 with a guarded threat. I was assuming that 800-929-8310 was the number for IRS, I had, UNDER DURESS, written the check even when instinct told me it was fraudulent. Then, I asked Internet if IRS in Atlanta had the phone number 800-829-8310. And you know the rest of the story. I caught it just in time.

- LilyI recieved a letter with The number 1 (800) 829-8310 ... it is a legit number for the Irs Automated Under reporter department...
- kayI got a letter supposedly from irs saying I owe $$$$. I think it is a scam because I have a reliable tax person do my taxes for years and have never had a problem. I have the forms and am always truthful about taxes and pay anything I owe. Must be a fraud letter. Have sent a copy to my tax person.
- Paula| 2 replies1st was receiving threatening phone calls, then I got the first letter. The info on my income was sort of correct but had errors. I sent a request back for them to call me, they never did, now I have received a second letter. The IRS address is "STOP 6692 AUSC and it says "we need to process all of my information" and will respond in 60 days. In the mean time the balance will continue to accru interest.
