- Paula| 2 replies1st was receiving threatening phone calls, then I got the first letter. The info on my income was sort of correct but had errors. I sent a request back for them to call me, they never did, now I have received a second letter. The IRS address is "STOP 6692 AUSC and it says "we need to process all of my information" and will respond in 60 days. In the mean time the balance will continue to accru interest.

- LMy mother in law got a letter with this number 18008298310 saying she owed money for 2015 tax year. She mailed in a check and today received a confirmation letter that they have received her payment. I’m pretty sure she was scammed but why would scammers take the time to send her a confirmation? I’ll have to call the IRS later and see what’s up. I wish she told me about the first letter. I feel bad that her hard earned money might have been stolen from her. People really suck.
- TenieceI wasn't called but sent a letter that I owed 7,000 the only problem with the letter is I just received a letter plus refund from the irs showing I don't owe anything. I called the number and you can't speak to anyone. If someone is trying to scam I guarantee it's a employee within the irs to have access to this information to make it believable. I am about to call the real IRS once again. I bet the scammers are on this forum stating that the letter is legit.

- BigA replies to S.B.So basically even after the most extensive campaign to warn people using every type of media possible you have never heard of the IRS scam? I really have to wonder how that is possible.
- Tygerkat replies to S.B.It quite likely is a scam but to be safe, go to the official IRS website and find the number you need to call about this letter. Unless this number is on the official IRS website, do not call it as there is no guarantee you'd actually be calling the IRS.
- T.A. Linton replies to Tamianth| 1 replyThat telephone number only gives access to narrow automated choices. You cannot reach a representative
The number I was given to reach the "office of C. McCarthy is another IRA automated dead end.
I think I will just write, trying to be more polite than IRS is. - Kellie replies to T.A. LintonReply to 5 years old post.
- S.T. replies to S.B.| 1 replyI have done the same...did you call and verify??
- Tygerkat replies to S.T.Don't bother waiting for that person to possibly return and answer your post. Call and verify yourself. Make sure to call an official IRS number, though, such as one on their website.
- Gemma replies to BARBThe number 1-800-829-8310 is a scam do not send money I have spoken to My local police department, they have received many complaints and to the IRS that is not a legitimate IRS number. I also filed a complaint to the United States post office because this came as a certified letter which also is illegal
- Gemma replies to Ashley WIt’s a scam you’re a bad liar. I called my accountant I also spoke to the IRS myself and reported. I also reported to the post office since the letter was sent out certified. Quit telling people that this number 800-829-8310 is legit! shame on you
