- cyndilouMy husband got a phone call this morning from this number and they stated he MUST call them back right away or else....
So he called and they said they were the Landis Law Firm and he owed $2800 dating back to the mid 90's. My husband and I purchased a new home a couple of years ago, and there is no way that debt is real. My husband was in arrears on some things and we HAD to satisfy all the debts, judgements etc. before they would give us our home loan. I feel something terribly wrong here! This guy has called my husband 5 more times today, demanding and rudely insisting we give him our checking account number over the phone. Seems there is something terribly wrong here. Not paying a dime until we get some REAL dependable info. - ouchthatburns| 1 replyDON'T TALK TO THIS COMPANY and Don't be Fooled!
It is not simply a collection agency for a creditor
This company is a junk debt buyer collection company. Be warned they are the lowest of the low, don't bother to try to talk with them. If you offer money, they will come back for more. They are not calling to negotiate, they are calling to extract funds.
They are basically mobsters located in PA. You will regret talking to them, as they will lie to you and make many claims without any evidence. I realize people make clean on hear but trust me when I say that you will live
They are not really a law firm and the owner of the company owns 2 companies that have the name of lawyers in the name.
They buy junk dept or do collections for junk debt buyers. Their goal is to extract cash from anyone period, and well do and say whatever to do it. Much of their collections are out of statute of limitations, and other old debts they can find and they will call people with similiar or same names to collect debts as well.
They will claim to be lawyers but they are not, and there is no Donald Burak at this company, and it is owned by someone else as well.
The owner of this company also owns another company claiming to be a lawyer.
be warned!!!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 9, 2008
Ewing Attorney Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography
TRENTON – A Ewing attorney pleaded guilty today to a one-count Information charging possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced. Donald Burak, 49, entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Mary L. Cooper. Judge Cooper released the defendant on a $100,000 bond pending sentencing, which is scheduled for July 24. At his plea hearing, Burak admitted that on June 14, 2007, he possessed child pornography on his computer. Burak admitted that he downloaded the child pornography from the Internet. The computer contained more than 600 images of prepubescent minors under the age of 12 engaging in sexually explicit conduct and that certain images contained depictions of sadistic or masochistic conduct or other depictions of violence involving children.
The charge of possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. In determining an actual sentence, Judge Cooper will consult the advisory U.S. Sentencing
Guidelines, which provide appropriate sentencing ranges that take into account the severity and characteristics of the offense, the defendant's criminal history, if any, and other factors. The judge, however, was not bound by those guidelines in determining a sentence. Parole has been abolished in the federal system. Defendants who are given custodial terms
must serve nearly all that time. Christie credited Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Weysan Dun in Newark, for the investigation leading to the
guilty plea. The Government is represented by Assistant United States Attorney James T. Kitchen of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.

- mk| 1 replymy husband has started receiving letters from this thomas landis law office. someone named eugene walker called my neighbor last weekend who told him he was reporting him and then someone called my husband's brother who told him it'd be a cold day in hexx before he'd give him our phone number. They say my husband owes wachovia bank $17,000. Believe me, my husband has never made enough money to qualify for a credit card with a $17,000 credit limit. i know this is a scam. i'm not paying anything to this so-called debt collector.

- DeborahMy disabled sister received a call from some turd named Mr. Adams claiming to be an attorney advising her that she is being sued. She believed him when he said it was for a debt to Elan - Visa dated October 2006, only because her identity was stolen in 2005 and it has been one opened account after another. She became hysterical and told him that she would have me call him back. I did after I Googled the number he gave to her (800-853-4000)and the woman who answered was short with me. I've worked in law offices and her presentation was NOT that of a legal secretary. I was directed to ex. 115 and got voice mail - sounded like some guy chawing on a Double Whopper with Cheese while he was activating his voice mail message. I left a voice mail and he called me back. He said he was a lawyer but when I asked him for his practice number he changed his tune and said he was a consultant. Since my sister had already told him her identity was stolen and there was a file of police reports for each new account - he said all we HAD to do was fax him a copy of those police reports! FAT CHANCE since they have my sister's personal information on them. This outfit is a scam and when I told this idiot that I was going to write letters of complaint to the Michigan and Pennsylvania Attorney General Offices - he turned into a child and began pushing the keypad numbers on his phone and then hung up on me. All lawsuits start with filing a complaint in a court of law and then serving the person being sued with a copy of the complaint. My caller ID gave me a different number when this "Mr. Adams" called me back. After he hung up on me I called the number back and he answered but tried to pretend he was somebody else. LOL What a coward! My thanks go out to all the posters here for the heads up on this [***] and his supposed lawfirm. It made my sister feel so much relief - and a little anger - when I read to her some of the posts here about other people who this idget tried to scam. Everyone needs to take the time to write letters of complaint to the attorney general of their state and also the PA Atty. General's Office.

- Watchout| 1 replyLast night I listened to a message on my answering machine from Paul Kinwood, for Attorney Tom Landis. They were requesting an immediate, urgent return call. I waited till today to respond - not knowing who Attorney Tom Landis was.
In calling 1-800-853-4000 ext 124. The person answering did not I.D. themselves (Flag of Concern #1 - no real law firm does this.)
They asked me for my last 4 digits of my SS# (Flag of Concern #2 - do not give it to them. Ask them the last 4 digits of the "case" of the individual they are reviewing.)
They asked me for my middle name. (Flag of Concern #3 - Do not give them your middle name. Instead ask them the middle name of the individual they are addressing. If your middle name does not match the one given, tell them they have the wrong individual.)
I asked them for the street name where their "case" lives. (Flag of Concern #4 - They provided several street names that did not match my present address or previous addresses. I told them that they had the wrong person.)
I have documented that they had the wrong person. If they contact me again, I will be reporting them for harassing phone calls.- Caller: Attorney Tom Landis

They were extremely rude & very threatening, & they dont even care that they are calling the wrong #. She said they had me listed as her mother? - KimI pulled my credit report and noticed that I failed to pay something so, I called the company they then told me it was handled by these people The Law offices of Thomas Landis 1-800-853-4000 so, I called and talked to Juan Perez I asked him for a settlement offer which he gave me, so I gave him all my bank info. which he asked me 3 times to repeat my account number that was on a Thursday, he asked me for a phone number I said no, I didn't think he needed that. Juan then stated in case there is a problem, so I gave it to him which was my job number. We then went on vacation and he called everyday twice a day for an entire week for his error, he wrote down the wrong account number, so he could not process my payment. Then he was calling my job leaving 2 messages a day, and I was gone until yesterday. To make a long story short, he failed to hang up the phone and on my Company's voice mail he states, THIS [***] IS NEVER GOING TO PAY US!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am angry, but thank god he did that on my Company phone, as it is recorded and our legal department is following up with all of the information that was obtained. To think I called them originally to pay my debt and was treated this way.
