The caller left a message saying he was from the law office of Thomas Landus and his name was Mike and that we had a case number and needed us to call back and give information. I screen my calls and do not answer if I do not know know the number I wait for the message.

I guess it is my turn.  I received a phone call first one that I know of, from a Mike Lieberman.  He said he was representing Landis Law Firm and was trying to settle a CitiBank debt I had stopped paying in 2005.  My wife and I tried to follow what he was saying and understand what credit card he was talking about.  He even gave a Citibank credit card number!  He said that we owed $3604.99 but they would settle for $2883.99.  So my wife and I went and pulled all our records and could not find anything with that number or for that matter from CitiBank.  My wife and I have decided to turn this over to our law firm to handle.  After reading all of your postings I have a better handle as to what is going on here.  "SCAM" Thanks everyone.

I had to contact my state attorney general's office regarding the tactics of a collection group. They suggested Bud Hibbs since he HELPS the consumer deal with these people. Had wonderful results!

Well I just got a call from this #, and the guy automatically assumed who ever answered was Me. So I played it off like I was my roommate and he started  guessing my name by nameing off my whole family! I am curious how he has all there information. So I had asked who was calling and he said his name was Ernie Ausdin ext 131. Then I asked what company this was and he told me it was Eternity Lander. Then I searched the web based on that name and there is no company with that name. So basically he lied to me about the company name! Can they legally do that???

To make a very long story short, these people are in violation of so many different articles of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act that it's borderline comical.  DO NOT give these people any information!!!  PLEASE click on this link http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf for a copy of the Federal Trade Commissions Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.  It's full of useful information you can be armed with the next time these people call.  Recently my wife and I started getting messages on our house phone looking for someone who isn't myself or my wife.  After several calls letting them know that no one by that name lived at our home, we continued to get calls.  Finally my wife called again yesterday and demanded to know where they had gotten our information to which the person on the other end refused, claiming it was against federal law to provide any information about a party whom we were not affialiated with.  To make a very long story short, my wife and our attorney got on the phone at the same time and told them we'd be sending a cease communication to them.  They were extremely rude people who somehow obtained my social security number which scares the hell out of me, but as of this morning my credit report is still clean and I've put an initial 90 day fraud alert on my credit reports and once one of the three credit reporting agencies is alerted, they send messages to the other two.  I also recommend everyone do this in case these people try to do anything illegal with your information. Also I'm going to be alerting my credit card companies to put a fraud alert on all of them and initiating a credit freeze which would stop anyone from opening new credit accounts using my information.  Anyway, the debt they are trying to collect isn't mine nor are their practices in compliance with the FDCPA which I included a link for above.  To start, I would ask the people calling you to send you a written document with the information required in the Fair Debt Act, and then also abide by the other articles to stop these people from contacting you or intimidating you.  They cannot by law enforce any debts, put liens on your property, garnish wages...any of it!  Despite whatever they claim, they can't do any of it.  So in conclusion...never give them your information or confirm anything, DO file a complaint with the FTC if they violate any of the articles in the Fair Debt Act, DO spread the word!  Let's all fight back and try to stop these people.

rec'd call many times from 215-642-3395 as phone id listing: Account Portfolio.  I have been keeping a list of dates and times that they have called and called them back w/ a message saying that the number i'm dialing is incorrect.  The last time someone from that number called me I asked for their address so that I could send a certifide letter to them to request that they not call me antmore.  They hung up on me.  The today they left the 800-853-4000 number for me to call back.  I'm planning on getting an address somehow, so that I can report them to the states attorney general for abuse...they will take of it.  Hope this info helps some of you.

There is so much a consumer should know before paying a collection agency.  The consumer in debt has rights and the collector violates those rights, every day!  If a consumer wants to pay less than a dime a dollar they must learn all the debt collection secerets on how the debt collector uses unfair tactics to manipulate and intimidate them into paying a debt.  The consumer must learn how to protect themselves and their privacy, clean up their credit report and save them hundreds and thousands of dollars through negotiation. I have taken several calls from these people as well, The one time I did actually talk to them they transferred me from the original caller to another person that was supposed to be an attorney. The man I spoke to was most likely not an attorney just from his demeanor and use of language. This individual was rude and used profane language while I spoke to him. After berating me and threatening me with wage garnishment of $700.00 a month which is not even possible, Someone even if they get a settlement can only garnish 25% of your disposable income anyway. These people need to be stopped. I have filed complaints with both the PA attorney general's office as well as my own state's AG office. I sent a certified letter for debt validation Per the FDCPA act and have not received anything as of yet.

This Thomas Landis Law Firm called my home phone with a reference number regarding a Lindsey Walker Weaver. (apparently they like the name Walker and they use it alot). I called and talked to a very rude lady with a bad attitude that threatened to hang up and "deal with this the way they always do." They claimed to be handling a bad debt of Lindsey Walker-Weaver with Citibank. Another person seemed to get this same line of bull.

But I fixed her wagon and told her to go ahead and hang up and that the police would be calling her back in 30 minutes. She said they were a "law firm" like it was a defense, and I informed her that just because you're a law firm, that doesn't mean you're not breaking the law. These people are violating the FCRA, Fair Credit Reporting Act. They had obtained my social security number, my address, and home phone number all without my permission, request or an open account with them. I am filing a police report, a complaint with the FTC, and whoever else I have to contact to stop these people from violating my rights.
