- Lu| 9 repliesToday I got a voice message from this company. A man said: "calling to collect a debt" When I called back they asked me my personal information. I hung up. It is a collection agency "NCO Financial". I don't owe anything. In fact I am just 18.
- Caller: NCO Financial

- EllieAt least once a week (for over two months)I get a call from a woman claiming to be a Debt Colection Agency - - I've only returned the call once, and the 'office' was closed - - then I decided to try the Internet to see if the number was listed, and got this site! I owe no one, pay off all crdit cards when due, and that's why I never bothered to call but that once - - I knew it was either mistaken identity or a scam!

- VezThe auto dialer called my home at 8:00pm, Sunday evening. The recording states it is a debt collector however when I return the call, which is a different number than the caller ID, a recording and intermittent ringing occurs and no one answers. I can't hear the recording for the ringing...I don't owe any debt and I would think if the auto dialer was able to dial then they would want a return call but I guess not.

- Upset - 29 Sep 2007Same messages as everyone else and very annoying! Two to three calls a day!
Different number on caller Id then they want you to call back! How do you block such calls? I owe no debts to anyone!- Call type: Debt collector
- AggrivatedI too am getting multiple calls per day as well as calls past 9pm at night from this number.
I'm going to find out who these people are and file a complaint with the attorney general's office against them.
It is clear they are a debt collection agency. I'm sick of the harassment from them between receiving multiple calls each day as well as calls late at night.
Whether you alledgedly owe them a debt or not, I suggest that everyone getting calls from these people file complaints with the consumer protection division of their states attorney generals office. Also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.- Caller: Caller ID: Toll Free Call

- irritated in FloridaI too am getting those same calls & I do not have any accounts where a debt collector would be involved. My bills are paid on time and every month. I know another company has called asking for a person whom I have never heard of and I told them this. Guess this is eaither a scam or the person's accunt was transferred to this company. But this so called comapny does not even give a name of the person they are trying to reach......sounds more like a scam. I have tried to block the number and the system will not let me.

- Scambuster| 1 replyThey have begun harassing us starting December 8, 2007, with the following voicemail: "Please return my call on 1-800-860-0644. Again, the number is 1-800-860-0644. This communication will be with a debt collector in an attempt to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose."
We don't owe any debt, and the credit reports we obtained today do not show any fraudulent activity or signs of ID theft (yet.)
We have googled the number and found several websites, including this one, which seem to indicate that they are scammers using various techniques to "redesign" debt and extort people for money they don't owe. They seem to operate under NCO Financial, NCO Portfolio Management, and Portfolio Recovery Associates.
We have decided to take the following steps:
1. We have placed fraud alerts with the 3 credit agencies (Equifax, Experian & Transunion), followed by letters explaining the situation with voicemail details. We have also subscribed to a 3-in-1 monitoring service which allows us to check our credit report online at any time, and will send us alerts of any changes.
2. We filter our calls and will never speak to them directly. We expect them to eventually send us a collection letter, which we will forward to our attorney for an official reply.
3. We keep a log of all their calls (date and time,) which we will foward with a complaint to the FTC, the Consumer Division of our state's Attorney General and to our local sheriff's department.
4. Once we get a letter from them with a name and address, we will check if they have an agent of representation in our state, and if so we will file a small claims suit to recoup the costs of time and money spent (we keep logs.)
5. If their actions still harm us or our credit in any time, we will consider a civil lawsuit.
If anyone has other suggestions, we will be happy to know about them. We are also ready to participate in any collective complaint or lawsuit against them. Scumbags like that belong in jail. - scammars| 4 repliesheres the deal, these people are calling multiple times a day with different numbers. My situation is that I do in fact have a debt which was originally my husbands and now somehow its on my credit report. I had a payment plan set up with them, only to find out it was fake. I now know everything these people say are a complete lie. I even wanted to pay my debt off, and they would only take my information over the phone, and denied sending me a copy in the mail. No way am I giving them any information over the phone. I know these guys illegally attempt to collect debts, and therefore why would I pay the debt off if the company isn't legit? I need to look into who truly owns my debt (company) and if I did pay if off would it actually get paid. We originally went through NCO and now we got a new agency which is this portfolio one saying they bought out the debt. Wow I didn't know they were the same company. When I sent NCO a ceast and desist letter, I think thats when they claimed to be portfolio, they must opporate under three different names, so when a person does send them a ceist and desist letter making it illegal for them to contact you by phone they just act as if they are a new company, which really they are not and opperation illegaly.

- cki got the same call today asking to call 800-860-0644. No one in this household owes debts. This is indeed a scam
- fedup2008I also received a call from 800-860-0644. I know I don't owe anyone any money so this is just a scam. I have been receiving calls from this scammers for months.

- stillnotmeWe have been receiving calls for collection from 800-860-0644 for at least 2 years. We have repeatedly told them to stop calling because the person they say they are looking for is not at this number. We have had our phone number for over 7 years. They insist that we should know the person they are calling or they think I am lying about my identity, which I will not give them.

- Also FeedupI received my first call on August 22, and received another today. The message is something to the effect of "this is a call from a Portfolio Recovery Associates. We are a debt collection agency. Please call 800-860-0644 at your earliest convenience. You will be speaking to a debt collector". I don't owe any debts. Just checked my credit report with Equifax; everything is fine. I am going to email the real Portfolio Recovery Services. I assume that this is a scam. The real company, which is highly regarded in investment circles, will probably want to prosecute the scammers.

- guppSame as above. This number 1-800-772-1413 called with a recorded message saying it was a collection agency and to call 1-800-860-0644. I owe nothing to anyone. It's a scam!!!!!!!!

- CapReceived this phone call last week but I didn't know until yesterday cause I usually don't check my messages until a week later. Today I came home at 9 pm and that woman from this phone number claimed that she was calling from Portfolio Recovery Associate Collection Agency, 120 Concord Blvd., Norfolk, Virginia, 23502. She stated that I need to call her office to talk with the collector. Funny, I don't even borrow money from my own bank...

- SallySame situation here.....I've been getting calls from these people for weeks now --- sometimes two or three times a day! Sometimes, I pick up the phone and no one is there, sometimes I get a recorded voice stating that "This is Portfolio Recovery Associates. Please return a call to 1-800-860-0644. This call is an attempt to collect a debt. You will be speaking with a debt collector and any information gathered during this conversation will be used toward collecting this debt." Then, it gave some "cororate office" address at the end of the message ---- somewhere in Virgina, but I didn't write it down. I knew it had to be a "scam" since we aren't behind in any bills.
A few weeks ago, we were getting calls from another "recording" asking us to call another 800 number to verify if we were Anna Hernandez. The message said that if we were NOT Anna, we needed to let them know by dialing the number in the recording, otherwise, it would be presumed that this residence and phone number was the correct contact location for Anna.
Of course I didn't call that number back, either. I wonder if the two are connected?- Caller: PORTFOLIO RECOVERY ASSOCIATES

- VitoI've been getting the same calls every day for 3 weeks. I figured it's regarding my ex wife who I lost contact with over 6 years ago that is always having debt problems. I called back 800-860-0644 to tell them they are calling a number that is not up to date. They had me on an annoying hold recording for 15 minutes and kept saying press 1 if you don't want to hold and leave a message. When I pressed one they said mailbox full and keep holding. They are annoying A holes and I wish I had their home number.
