They called me on 12/13/11 at 10:02AM. I answered this phone call and it was a wrong name. At 10:42 AM they called me again with defferent number 800-860-0644.
Here is the list they called me:

These people are a pain..part of a number of collection agencies that go after "cold" or old debts, some even beyond 10yrs old.  Scavengers who get a per cent of dollars collected.  You many not even owe the debt.  They are tracking someone, a friend, or relative.  They will not even tell you any info on them.  Once one young man even told me it was non of my business.  I press a bunch of tone keys and hang up.

I owed Capitol One $250.00. This debt was incurred approx. 10 to 12 years ago. I agreed to pay the initial debt within a couple of weeks. They refused the offer & I continued to try & work out an agreement that I could ensure. They refused all concessions. I then, as a single working  mother told them that either they accept my offer (which was all I could afford) I could give them no more!. My son was shot in the head.Praise the LORD Jesus, I still had a job and insurance, I was able to get through this. Much later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fotrtunately I still had my job & insurance.   Due to a merger, Iost my job & ins.. Took the very small pkg. I made the huge mistake of paying off my son's credit card with a check. Now, after all of these years, PortfoliaRecovery is harrassing me via telaphone. I have advised them of the law that they continue that I have the right to sue them in civil court fir $1000.00. They continue to call. Pls assist me with this.

they did leave me a message.This is a new phone number. Somehow it got published for two days. Now I am waiting to get the instruction book and will block there number real quick. I have another one calling me from San Diego. She starts babbling and says will you confirm your personal info. I told her I have no clue who she is and she keeps on giving out the personal infor.  I told her that was illegal and she needs to stop.  Waiting to get a bill from these idiots then I will report them to the BBB and such. I say it is short of harassment when they call at 8 am on an auto dialer. I see the number and don't pick it up. This number here the 800 number called. I do not have an answering machine, It just rings to a silent ringer. They buy the debs from someone else. In this country it is called double dipping as the insurance companies paid off the bad debt. They buy that debt and collect twice. I learned to report all of them for double dipping. Back east they put them out of business. Or better yet, send them a letter certified mail that says cease and desist calling them or one can sue them for harassment.

Blocked. Problem solved.

These people practice attaching numbers to names and/or addresses.

I haven't linked the page on the site yet.  I also found where they sued over 1,500 people and were also sued.  I am consolidating all this information because, like you, they harass me for a debt I don't owe and like you, I am tired of garbage scum-sucking people leaching off everybody else and then being protected by our legislators and the Courts.

I often get hangup calls from this number for people I have never heard of. They never leave a message so I don't bother to call back to tell them to perform an anatomical impossibility upon themselves. Takes a lot of the fun out of it.

ITS ILLEGAL

We have gotten many calls from this group identifying themselves as Portfolio Recovery Associates and leaving virtually the same message as what everyone else has described here.  The one thing I did not see is the fact that every time these guys call, my phone is inexplicably rendered useless after their message is recorded.  It won't receive, make, identify, or  record calls after they have called until I unplug my phone for a few min. to reset it.  Once I do this, my phone is back to normal.  At first, I thought it was a problem with my phone so I purchased a new one.  The same thing happens to my new phone.  This is very disturbing since my spouse is disabled and this has the potential to prevent him/her from getting help if needed.  How do they do this and how do I stop it?  This is more than just annoying, it's potentially dangerous.

Could the incident described on my previous post be a form of DDOS?

Rec'd a call on Feb 2, 2012. Calls comes in on 800  Service. No message. Their number is 1-800-860-0644.

these is portfolio trying to collect a debt they are bottom feeders just let your answering machine get it then you dont have to deal with them ever.

Just ignore them ! They're a legit Business and Accredited Services by BBB. If you can turn-off your ringer do so or just pick-up the phones, once you've ID them and let the minutes run

Robo message saying this is Portfolio Recovery Associates please call us at 800-860-0644 at your earliest convience then they say their address.  But dont mention who the call is for, they have reached a business therefore their message wont be delivered!

These scoundrels are noted for chasing outdated debts.  I found out the hard way and am now having to fight with them.  Thankflully I found a webpage that had some good info to help me get started.  Firing them was the best think I did.

I just have a called from 1-800-860-0644 call my  job someone with a recorded message wanting to  collect a debt, this is very disturbing, and I keep getting these harrassing phone calls daily, and I want it to stop, I OWE NO DEBTS, PLEASE STOP IT.

I owe no debt..................I am getting calls on sundays!  really???  We will not answer these calls.  they are calling for someone else.  I used to answer and tell them wrong number.  I have blocked the numbers.  Now we just don't answer at all..................but is so annoying.  Next time they call I am telling thme the phone is being recorded and traced.  Do this with a *57 after they call.

I have turned thme into donotcall.  that does not work.
