- PT CruizinI received a solicitation through First Midwest Bank in Illinois. I signed up for $100,000 of Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance underwritten by The Hartford. This program is marketed by a company called Affinion Group. They are insurance brokers that contract with insurance companies and financial institutions to market insurance products. They are a legitimate company and primarily use direct mail. The bill I received was for $49.50 which represents a quarterly payment ($16.50 per month for 3 months). In addition to cars, we own a boat, so I felt it wise to have the extra insurance.
- The Name replies to DebbieI found the name Afinion Benefits group
- P. Martin$16.50 taken from my Account this January.
Reason, sent my details in response to a FREE 12 months, $50K Accident and Dismember Insurance offered by US Bank when I joined them. It clearly states that the monthly Premium (In my case $5.50) will be taken automatically from my Current Account. The 12 months FREE finished January this year, hence the first withdrawl for 12 mionths!
Hope this helps someone.- Caller: No call, docs from US Bank/Hartford

GOOD LUCK - aaronI too have had a $30 charge to my account, but I called them, AD&D is a larger insurance company that takes care of smaller insurance companies, one of which is an insurance company offered through my bank, Hardt I believe its called. My bank is Valley federal Credit Union of Montana. so for everyone else it may be the same, an insurance policy offered through your bank and you simply don't remember it.
- AmberMy Mother had the same thing happen to her on her bank statements it is a accidential death and dismemberment insurance that she did not sign up for through her bank in which they automatically signed her up for which is "BS" the bank has no right to automatically enroll you in this we have called them to try and refund her money and they said they have to send her a formal letter to stop the services and then she can try and fight for her money back from the last three months they have been charging it to her and try and get her overdraft fees paid for also.. This company is a fraud....people beware

- wesman from Delaware...| 2 repliesFYI to all. I too received a charge from AD&D. At first I had no idea what it was. But after further investigation, this is what I found...
Please note that the phone number 1800-860-7182 belongs to The Affinion Benefits Group who supplies many banks and credit unions with AD&D or term life insurance. If you google this number, you will notice that there are several financial institutions listed. If you have a charge on the account, it is because you or someone in your household signed up for insurance through your financial instution (bank). They only bill quarterly, so many people forget they have signed up. If you call the number during business hours, they will be able to look up your account and you can discuss your options with them.
So, here's how it works. The bank sells a list of its clients and their banking information to Affinion. Affinion offers everyone a FREE $1000 ADD policy, and sends a form or letter indicating this. If you do nothing, you will be signed up for the FREE $1000 policy. If you want the extra coverage (which is NOT free), you will need to sign and return the form to Affinion. You do NOT have to give them your banking info because they already have it through your bank. By signing the form and returning it to Affinion, you are accepting any premium charges for the additional coverage. When you get the charges, get your banking statement out, and look at the transaction detail. It will contain Affinion's customer service # and your coverage ID, which is a 9 digit number that usually starts with a 6 or 7. HOWEVER, keep in mind that ADD means Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage, NOT standard life insurance. It is a type of life insurance, but if you die of natural causes, this policy will not pay out. That is why the rates are so cheap, because the odds of dying of an accident are much lower than disease or other natural causes. Affinion will gladly give you a copy of the policy if you request it. The policies are written in language as plain as possible, but if you need help figuring out what a particular section means, call Affinion. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!

- AliKat replies to Larry| 1 replyThis is a life insurance company called "The Hartford" based out of Nashville, TN. I just saw a deduction on my online bank account with a check# and a deduction of $6.75 going to "AD&D". I called my bank, they gave me the telephone #: 1-800-860-7182. Then, I googled "AD&D + the phone # and found this site. Upon reading all of these previous comments I remembered I had signed up for a free life insurance policy and also decided to increase the amount for a quarterly fee of $6.75. I then found that I have the papers from The Hartford filed away and that it does indeed state that I will be billed a fee of $6.75 quarterly. So I guess that's my own fault for not remembering!
- CK replies to vanI read your reply and want to thank you. I have been trying to cancel an AD&D policy my mother had purchased for herself. She passed away 51/2 months ago. Her financial institution was of no help. I had no idea the chain of numbers following the "AD&D" on her statement was a phone number. With one call it was resolved! Thanks for ending my frustration!!

- ANITA| 1 replyI signed up for the additional coverage thru my bank and decided I didn't want it. I was told that it would be 7-10 business days before I get a refund. Well, when I called back to follow up, I was told that they hadn't recv'd any money from my bank and he would send me a refund request form in 5-10 more days and to complete it and send it back. This is a bunch of "crap" and I will be reporting to the "BBB" today. I will also be filing a complaint with my bank since they are the ones that put their customers in touch with these lousy people with horrible customer service. Lastly, the rep told me that they only have a mailing address for the corporate office but no phone number to dial and speak with anyone.
- Kay replies to ANITACan i ask the name of your bank? I use USBank and BanK MERICA AND I SEE $99.00 REMOVED FROM ONE OF MY ACCOUNTS.
- RobertMy son has notice $71 deductions out of his account, and he never signed up for anything, from a local Federal Credit Union. When calling the 800 number, they don't even say who they are and don't want to give you a name unless you push them. What a SCAM!!!!! We are pursuing with the company and the FCU to get all the money back and bloack further deductions!
