- bebopCalled a couple times. Left one message, could not understand who it was from but they said very understandably that they were debt collectors. Well, we have no debt. Must be scammers looking for info.

- Debbie'We have an import message from Capital portfolio services. This is a call from a debt collector please call 888-229-6009 extension 31512 thank you". This was the message. New change on Verizon provides it in text along with voice. Obviously I checked the number out since I have no delinquent debt.

- MariaLeft VM saying the call was from Calvary Portfolio Services and it was an attempt to collect a debt. Message indicated the caller was at x31671. I don't believe this is a valid debt collector since the call came in on my company cell phone.

- LynI got a call from this number and they refused to tell me who they were until I verified the last 4 of my social. I said I'm sorry can you tell me who you are and what this is about first and all they would say "My name is (whatever his name was) and I'm calling you about a personal business matter here in our office" I said "That doesn't tell me anything, who are you with" He said "Unfortunately I can't give you any information until I can verify who I'm speaking with, would you feel more comfortable verifying your mailing address?" I said "Definitely not, sorry I'm not going to give you any information until you can tell me what company you're with" and he again said "I can't tell you anything more until I can verify who I'm talking to" I said well I'm never going to give you any information over the phone to someone I have no clue who they are, what company they're with or why they are calling, sorry but there are way too many scams out there so you can stop calling because I'll never verify anything until I know who I'm speaking to" and he said "ok we'll stop the calls then thanks"
He already asked to speak to my name and I said this is her. Usually a debt collector goes right into "I have to inform you this is an attempt to collect a debt" or at least tell you the company they're calling from. He would give me nothing so no way was I going to tell him anything.- Caller: Refused to reveal

- TORWe received a message on our answering machine from this number today. The female caller said she represented Cavalry Investments and wanted information regarding a neighbor. Like I'm going to do that..... duh.... I called the neighbor in question and he said he has been ignoring their calls -- also going to his voice mail -- because he is not interested in "investments". Neighbor also claims he has no outstanding debts; so I tend to believe him. He's in his 80's and retired CIA. If he's got any old contacts, those idiots are messing with the wrong old man...

- AguaLily replies to pjIt is not illegal to call any number. It IS true (or was in the past) that if folks called you on your work number then you could tell them it was such and advise them not to call you back on it again - remove it from their records.
Also, being on a "Do Not Call" List doesn't work at all anymore these days. ANYTIME you sign-up for things to be sent to your house, marketing deals, etc., your telephone number is made public again. This "registry" has far outlived its hopeful purpose. More callers need to recognize this and simply block numbers that are harassing and / or are not known to them. - Mary bPile of jerks. Just keep calling. Leave no message

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand.- Caller: Informational post

- kitScot from Cavalry Portfolio (debt collector with a very bad reputation) has now called several times today on 2 different phone numbers for the same person. I have offered to have the person call him back, but he declined. I have now reminded him he has called more than once- against Fair Debt Collection laws. No, no, Scott.
