    Heather's mom
Stupid me... Just realized today that I've been paying $9.99 a month for Premium Text Messaging (Bid4Prz) for the past 5 months on my daughter's cell phone...and didn't know it. I called Verizon and got the same response--she (my daughter) had to have signed up for it. My daughter informed me she'd been getting these wierd text msgs but DID NOT reply to them. And after reading the comments on here I was sure we'd been scammed. So I called Verizon again and explained all of this. The rep was kind enough to issue a refund for 4 months (the first one I have to eat). She also advised me to send the text msg "unsubscribe" to 81000--which I did. In less than a minute a reply came back "You are now unsubscribed." (Will know how successful this all is when the next bill comes out in a couple weeks.) THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for your input here! It helped to make my case with Verizon. And don't forget, your "delivery" when requesting a refund plays an important role as well.

Sorry, but I've had our home & cell numbers on the "Do Not Call List" for a while now and it didn't stop this from happening to us. Guess it doesn't apply to text messages.

Just got my newest Verizon bill and there's the $9.99 charge AGAIN, even though I have unsubscribed.  Called Verizon, got the run-around about having to call the 3rd party vendor, said NO they don't answer and I want this stopped. Verizon credited the $.
This has been driving me crazy - how can Verizon and Bid4Prizes insist that I enrolled or subscribed to something whe I know darn well I didn't? After reviewing the other posts, I noticed the name photobucket.com pop up a few times.  I dim memory flickered to life...weeks and weeks ago, I started to sign up for a photobucket account (online photo album) and I entered my Verizon number in the registration page. I changed my mind before completing the sign-up, though.  I think New Motion Inc. (incorporated in California but 'jurisdiciton' is Delaware) has somehow made arrangements to HARVEST our cell phone numbers off of other companies' registrations. So to all of you who, like me, KNOW you didn't subscribe to bid4prizes, I'm thinking the got your number from another source.  Conspiracy theory, anyone?

They ripped $50 off of me before I found out about this. On the Verizon bill, it was listed as "Data." It was $10.44 a month. Verizon gave me that number to call. Ashley or whoever that gal was who answered, claimed that I gave Bid4prizes my cell number on one of their pop-ups. I don't get pop-ups! I use Norton firewall protection.

I noticed my Verizon bill up $9.99. I am very consistent with my bill. When I found the bid4priz charge I contacted Verizon. Took me 3 times but they took it off. I never did get to talk to anyone at New Motion Inc. about their scam but I left a message that was reporting to Att. Gen. Office and I did. I am usually not a hard person to get along with but I will not be taken advantage of. I have to admit Verizon did reverse charge either because I said I would discontinue service or because basically they are a good company. I got it fixed and am now blocked.

I Just talked to Verizon Wireless for the third time. They told me that they will reverse the charges and blocked will all future texts messages. I really don't know if they will refund the $50 back; wish me luck. The trick is to call Verizon three times and talk about this website.

Another good point thing to tell VZW is that the only proof the Bid4prises has on us is that we are at the receiving end of their text messages.

    13 year old son scammed
What a company - they charged a fee on my 13 year old son's phone. Obviously as a minor he can't sign up for anything!!  Used automated process to cancel this ripoff "service" so I hope this ends the bills.  Verizon didn't help - they gave me the 800 number and told me it was my problem.  I was as disappointed with Verizon as this company.

I was charged for 3 months worth of Bid4prz3 on this months VERISON bill. I did not order this service.  Sense VERISON doesn't want to help maybe a class action law suit will make them do something. Maybe if we all call and tell them we'll sue they might think again about helping us.

Today, I called Verizonwirless. The representatves said they can not remove the charge ($9.99). And they gave me anther phone number 800-825-5285. They said if I did not call the company to stop the severce, the charge will show in the next month's bill. But nobody answered the phone. Why all of cases happened in verizon??? I made the decision to switch my cell phone to another company.

I had a $9.99 charge on my bill from this company to my daughter's phone. I called Verizon, and they were very helpful in reversing the charge, and investigating. They said that Bid4Prizes stated that the service was signed up for on a website, a PIN# was sent out, the PIN# was texted back to them, and the service was cancelled on the same day. My 12-year old daughter says that this didn't happen, but even if it did it is an obvious scam. The company is hoping that people don't notice the charge on their bill and continue to pay each month. I'll bet that this scam rakes in over a million dollars a year -----There ought to be a law against this, because these people deserve some time in jail!!!

Same as everyone else, charge appeared out of nowhere. Phoned the 800 number, canceled via the automated service (we'll see), called Verizon, and they were aware of this scam, and they OFFERED to reverse the charges. That was an unexpected nicety from them.

Hey I had this same thing happen to me on my verizon phone.  I never signed up for anything and had the 9.99 premium text charge.  Initially verizon said that they could not credit my account but that I should text "unsubscribe" to 81000.  After asking if I could contact the vendor and get a credit the customer service rep put me on hold to try to get the info.   When she came back she said that she could credit my account for the charge but to make sure that I still unsubsribe or I would continue to get the charges.  After sending the text I got confirmation I was unsubscribed in one text and another asking me to text OK to be entered into a drawing.  Sneaky aren't they.

Am i about to be scammed?
Forgot details!  40-year-old adult non-ringtone/gamer.  Have never used my cellphone # for ANYTHING other than emergency# for kids' school, let alone would i give it or anything else out online.

I got those two text messages one right after the other and immediately started Googling (i'm already so pissed i want to fly out to California and deal with this in person).

When AT&T bought out Cingular i started getting text advertisements from AT&T but a call to customer service (and a threat to switch to Verizon) ended those messages months ago.  This is the only thing like this i've ever received before or since the AT&T/Cingular 'merge'.

Obviously it's not just a Verizon thing.  How can this sort of thing be *legal*?!?

Yep happened to me as well, and I have gotten two months of charges before I caught it, when I did I called Sprint, my carrier, and said look I never signed up and they said there was nothing they could do, [***].  Also, while they erased it they notified me it had already went on to a third months bill and I would have to get a refund from New Motion.  Give me a break, it is Sprint's fault as much as New Motion as far as I am concerned!  Oh and by the way, I call Sprint on a monthly basis to get refunds thats how much they want to screw me, I swear, I hate cell phones, if only I did not have to use one, ugh. And it is the same $9.99 charge as everyone else, anyone want to reply with a list of places to place this company on the Top 1 Fraud list?

Got the same messages.  Verizon claims innocense, but they are collecting for these scammers, makes them a party to this in my book (I presume that Verizon gets a cut of the $9.99).  These scammers could not do their dirty work without help from the cell phone companies.
