- some guyYeah, just got a call from Ashley Parks.... this little girl could barely put a complete sentence together and accidentally put the phone on hold while leaving a voice mail.. she did screw up. gave the wrong number and then tried to correct herself. 330.835.5902. called it "first credit".
Now I don't live to far from that area, the number is unlisted. but I came up with

- WolfieQuit calling. I am not the one you want idiots.
- common sense| 1 replyYou dummies . Legally they can't say on a voicemail why theyre calling ... It's a violation of fdcpa laws , and if its medical of hipa as well . Own up and pay your bill instead of complaining.

- Looking for work replies to common senseFor many people in this economy the choice is between paying a previous bill or 1) putting food on the table for your kids; 2) paying the rent/mortgage; 3) buying medicine; 4) paying for a doctor/dentist visit; 5) paying automobile insurance so you can continue to drive legally; or 6) paying the bills for your utilities.
If it was as simple as writing a check for a past debt, 90% of the population would take care of it. But when you have to juggle all of the payables I have listed, which means skipping the electric bill this month, skipping the gas bill next month and the telephone bill the month after that, something has got to give and many times that is a bill that was skipped months ago. If you can't find the work to earn the money to pay it off, there is no choice but to let some bills languish.
The other bills have a higher priority because if you miss your rent/mortgage you may become homeless. If you miss your utilities they may be disconnected. If you don't pay for the medicine for your child or grandmother, their illness may become worse requiring more expensive care later.
Everyone is/has been tightening their belt, even those with good incomes because one never knows who may be unemployed/underemployed next week. And for those of us with investments, the volatility of the markets causes additional concerns. So those fortunate ones are not spending nearly as much as they did prior to 2007. That means that the server at the Olive Garden isn't making as much in tips so he doesn't spend as much on food or entertainment let alone making major purchases.
The banks took enormous risks and failed. But rather than absorbing their losses, thereby affecting their shareholders, they convinced the government in 2008 to bail them out with taxpayer funds. Thus they were in a win/win situation...they could make high risk investments that paid off handsomely if everything went well, but if they lost their bet they didn't ;ose their money since Uncle Sam stepped in because they were too big to fail.
Now they are spending millions on lobbying and in campaign donations to ward off attempts of regulation that would curb the excessive risk taking that got us into this mess in the first place. They are even refusing to accept higher capitalization requirements that would reduce how much of their deposits they could gamble, knowing that should their gamble lose, the taxpayer would cover their losses. - not interestedI have been getting calls from this number for several months. They never say much meaningful. Always give a number to call if you are not the person they say they are looking for but, it's a long distance call. Am I going to call back? NOT LIKELY!!!! It's exactly because of calls like this that I never answer a call from an 800 number. Do I owe someone money? Possibly. But since they never say who I supposedly owe, I can't verify that. If I can't verify that they are calling about a bill that I definitely owe, I'm not calling them and giving them ANY information about me! Give it up people!! You should not be in business because you don't know anything about what you're doing!!
- activistJust file suit against them for fdcpa violations....they will quit

- hate_spamGot a call from this no. for a person not in our household. Saying if I'm NOT so-and-so, I should still call back the 800 #, and if I AM so-and-so, then they are a debt collector and I should return their call immediately. So either way, they want me to return their call. WTF? The automated msg. sounded fishy. to say the least.

One scam that was discovered several years ago was a father/son team who owned a medical imaging company (MRI, CT scans, x-rays). The father was an MD. They would take the insurance payment which was to be accepted as payment in full as per the agreement with the insurance companies. The imaging company would then send out a bill for anywhere between $49 and $149 to the patients. A surprising number simply paid the bill without questioning the Explanation of Benefits they had received from their insurance companies.
But for those people that did not pay, they would turn the bill over to an accommodating collection agency. They would then pursue the "creditor" mercilessly with non-stop phone calls, threatening letters, etc. Finally the state's attorney general had received a considerable number of complaints that led him to conclude that there was something amiss. He began an investigating and eventually determined the extent of their deception by fraud. They each received prison terms.
So, if you receive a letter in the mail from a collection agency, follow up with a return letter (don't call ... they know how to push your buttons and you won't get ANYTHING from them by phone) and watch your credit reports. Then follow up with the hospital/medical provider as well as your insurance company. It is not uncommon for collection agencies to tack on additional fees which are prohibited by law.

The Do Not Call legislation does permit businesses with whom you have established a "business relationship," which means that you have received a product or service from the business, they are permitted to call you. In addition, any business they hire to collect money from you may also call. In fact, if you look at many purchase contracts, especially with purchases made online, you will see a paragraph in small print that states that they may use your personal information to contact you for future "sales" or "services" that may be of interest to you. In addition, the paragraph usually states that their "business partners" may also call you to offer you products and/or services. A "business partner" can include any business who has purchased your information from the first business.
