- Pissed OffI get this call all the time. When I did call it back, I was told it was due to a bill that I had from Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. When I asked her the dates of service for this so called bill, she couldn't tell me. So I asked her for an account number. When she gave it to me, I found the paperwork I had from Southwest stating that this account had been basically written off (I had applied for financial assitance, seeing how I do not have health insurance). The paperwork I had from Southwest stated that the services provided for that account were provided at NO CHRAGE to me. When I told this woman this, she hung up on me. This was about 3 months ago. I STILL GET PHONE CALLS FROM THEM.

- Cannotafford2concentrate1 replies to suzanI'm in same boat because of expenses caring for a terminally ill parent from '06-'09. I lost my position w/ good company of 5 years in '11. My spouse became unemployed due to a corporate down-sizing 10 months ago. Still I look at it this way. If I OWE it I NEED TO OWN the RESPONSIBILITY. I call them and try to negotiate paying something, it is better than nothiong at all. DO NOT AVOID COLLECTION CALLS, THEY WILL ONLY BECOME MORE FREQUENT AND IN SOME CASES, MORE AGGRESSIVE!
While collection companies can be annoying. I'd rather try to work with them and pay WHAT I CAN, even if all I have left is $5 a month it spare. If the company refuses it and attempts to sue / garnish, in many cases like yours and mine the courts may rule for a WRITE OFF and clear your debt; especially if you have proof... ( receipts and written correspondences,) showing that you were making a good faith effort to pay what you can and they declined it.
If you do not want calls from them...( while they are exempt from the DO NOT CALL List ) all you need to do is WRITE A SIMPLE SHORT LETTER to the company within 30 days of their first attempt to collect by phone and tell them to cease contact. Make sure all payments, letters, etc are sent certified with signature required through post to TRACK your attempts to resolve.
Otherwise, read this link on Fair Debt Collection Act below from the FTC.

I've read consumers complaining about debt collectors calling them even though their number has been listed on the National Do Not Call Registry. Unfortunately, these people end up thinking the law isn't working, when that's not the problem.
The National Do Not Call Registry was created to stop calls from telemarketers. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) defines a telemarketer as someone who makes or receives calls to or from a customer to get that person to buy good or services or to make a donation (Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act). The FTC further defines a debt collector as an individual or business that collects or attempts to debts (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act). By definition, a debt collector isn't a telemarketer and wouldn't fall under jurisdiction of the National Do Not Call Registry.
When the National Do Not Call Registry was established it didn't include any of the following:
calls from businesses that you already have a relationship with
calls for which you've already given written permission
calls that aren't commercial and don't include unsolicited advertisements
calls made by or on behalf of non-profit organizations
When you signed up for a credit card or loan, you most likely gave permission for the bank to use a third-party collector to collect any delinquent debt from you. So, ultimately, you gave permission for the collectors to call you to collect the debt from you and signing up for the national do not call list won't stop calls from debt collectors.
If you wish to stop debt collector calls, you should send a written cease and desist letter to the collector stating that you no longer wish to be contacted. Aside from paying the debt, that's the only way to get a debt collector to stop calling you.

- JoshIt's a due balance your hospital has passed to collections because our insurance provider didn't pay majority of it. I paid the hospital not the collector. I used to be a collector and I hated it because the business managers who never been a collector doesn't realize if you bug someone about it they are not going to get money. Never pay a third party I don't care what anybody says they are all [***] idiots trying to collect and they have no intentions to be considerate so don't even worry cause I called this morning and the [***] was nasty with me so I told her to Xfer me to her manager her manager hung up on me so I reported them the privAcy act of ohio

This is indeed a debt collection agency attempting to collect a debt. Unfortunately I am in a position where I cannot pay the hospital's demanded minimum monthly payment otherwise it would take food away from my children or gas out of my car to go to work. As I explained to them on multiple occasions I would be paying a small amount each month till tax season in which case I will then pay the balance in full! I expect over $4,000 which is more than enough to cover the $1,000 my insurance company is raping me for. Apparently, everything I have read about making SOME sort of monthly payment wasn't enough, and they sent me to collections anyway. In any case, February can't come fast enough...
Please do not ignore this caller. If you haven't already, you will be receiving a statement in the mail from them, and this phone number is the one that is listed as a contact number. This verifies that this number is truly a legitimate concern.
If you are receiving this, and you are NOT in debt to anyone, you need to take action, because most likely someone is using your identity, making fraudulent charges, and you're being contacted now... Once again... do NOT ignore!!!!
The only way to make these calls stop is to take action... It is not spam, and it is not a robo call, and the DNC registry is not going to protect you from this.- Caller: First Credit Inc

- Waiting on Income Tax ReturnsI would also like to add...
If you have been turned over to this company, call the hospital that sent you over to them FIRST!
As an update to my first response:
I called the hospital who turned us over to this company. I worked a deal with them. When I first called, I asked the first person I spoke to to speak to a supervisor. After speaking with the supervisor, I have managed to put this company on hold for a bit. It's NOT too late when they first turn you over. Luckily I have some flexible spending account funds that I was able to bargain with them with. It will hold me over till February when we file.
If you don't feel comfortable working with FCI - Call the ORIGINAL debt owner and try to strike a deal with them first! Don't ignore! PLEASE don't ignore!
Good luck to you all! :-)- Caller: First Credit Inc
