- TomiI was contacted by Kemp and Associates regarding a possible inheritance. After doing my due-dilligence, I signed the contract. It turned out that the relative was a half sister to my mother's father who just passed away. My mom's father died when my mom was a child and my mother passed away in 1997. We never even knew that the "Great Aunt" ever existed. The process takes a while, but we will eventually get an inheritance that was completely unexpected and 66% of something is better than 100% of nothing. Good Luck with your endeavors.
- info replies to realdeal| 2 repliesAre you guys crazy? let them take 33%! 67% of an estate you know nothing about or even know the person that died, you could not ask for more. All the benifits without any suffering. Sounds good to me. Sign up, take the $ and thank them very much. 67% of $1000 or more is way better than 0% of $1000 or more!
- Kathleen replies to realdeal| 1 replyKemp and associates located me and my siblings before the estate lawyers of a deceased (and unknown relative) found us. Some of us decided to sign with them some did not. When all is said and done I question how their firm found us prior to the law firm hired by the estate. I feel 33% is payment for having them obtain birth, death, marriage certificates to prove relationship. When the estate found hundreds (they even when back to ireland to find heirs)of relations while paying again and again to extend the search I was glad to have Kemp and associates there. I don't understand what legal system says they have to find any shirttail relative and if a name is found, but no contact made the money is set aside. This has gone on for two years now. Yes Kemp and associates have earned their share of my new found money

- whittle away replies to infoThe court appointed administrator is legally obligated and bound to have a genealogist research and notify all heirs to any potential inheritance... Keep just beats them to the draw, getting to you before they do... You don't need Keep, or any other attorney for that matter. An estate that is intestate will find you anyway.

- KEMP IS GREAT, BUT...The court appointed administrator is legally obligated and bound to have a genealogist research and notify all heirs to any potential inheritance... Keep just beats them to the draw, getting to you before they do... You don't need Keep, or any other attorney for that matter. An estate that is intestate will find you anyway. They are very nice people who are shrewdly taking 33% of your money, for alerting you to information that you would eventually find out about anyway. The court is required required required to document and locate all heirs, and no disbursement will be approved without the complete list. You do not need Keep.

- Robert Barrett replies to kemp is faster on the draw| 2 repliesLet me clarify this issue for anyone not familiar with heir tracing and intestate inheritance. First, if someone dies without a last will and testament (intestate) their estate, by statutory law, flows to a certain order of inheritors (spouse, children, siblings etc). The exact order of inheritance (who inherits first etc) is determined by each state. There are countless intestate estates each year that are filed with Probate Courts with no known heirs whatsoever. Courts generally are not equiped with the investigative and genealogical tools necessary to conduct a meaningful search for the lawful heirs, and therefore, many rightful beneficiaries are never identified. Administrators typically do not conduct a thourough search for the rightful heirs and do not hire genealogical/research firms to assist them. In this instance the proceeds from these sorts of estates often escheat to the State and the proceeds are subsumed. Heir searching firms, such as Kemp & Associates, do provide a valuable service in that they are most often able to identify the family of a deceased individual and they then professionally document each heir's ritht to inherit. Without this service hundreds of thousands of rightful beneficiaries would never know of their right to inherit and their shares would be lost to the State. Kemp & Associates works on a contingent fee basis only, whereby they receive a percentage of an heir's inheritance only IF the heir recieves their inheritance. It really is a Win-Win situation all around. I encourage you to be skeptical of anyone bad mouthing these sorts of businesses as they do provide a legitimate service that can be easily verified with some simple research.
- PuckWe received a call from Kemp & associates yesterday.
The Caller was trying to locate myself and other family members regarding an estate belonging to one of my grandmother's brothers.
While being very polite and informed about my family, he was not up to date on recently deceased members of the family (3 yrs off).
The worrisome part is that my Grandmother died 30 some yrs ago, and her brothers were, we believe, all older than she.
This would put all the brothers well over 100 yrs of age... very strange.
I just received the "Packet" in the mail to find out that these people want 1/3 of whatever I am entitled to, on top of the 1/3 taken out by the court appointed attorneys.
Odd that they want 1/3 from each sibling involved when they find them, how very lucrative for them.
And I notice here that the favorbale comments either come from Kemp & Assc, or from people sounding like commercials for them.
I believe I'll look into all of this a bit deeper before I sign anything.
( I'd really hate sending any amount of money to the state of Utah.)- Caller: Kemp & associates

- jmt replies to Anonym| 1 replyI also received a letter from Kemp,i filled out the info and returned it,
then i had a call from Robert, we talked and everything seems liget, now i have recievd a letter asking for more info, such as when my grandparnets were married? How would i know that. So far i'm okay with all of this, but also in the letter, they ask for SSN and for me to sign a release for them to sign my name to recieve records. I will do what i can to help but i think giving my SSN is not one of them. I do hope this is liget. - Joseph E. Doty| 3 repliesI am attorney in Ohio and I have worked with Kemp & Associates for close to 12 years. My former law partner, John Adams, did the work for 10+ years prior to that. John is now the Federal District Judge in Akron. This is legit. They do not ask you for money up front (which is a true sign of a scam).
This is very honest and interesting work for me. I have met thousands of wonderful people through this work and 99% appreciate everything that Kemp and I do for them.
The one poster is correct in that the estate administrators are "required" or "bound" to find the heirs. Unfortunately, they only have to exercise "due diligence". Due diligence can be simple or complicated. Most take the simple route and most heirs never see the money or even know they were entitled to it. Also, the local cousins will conveniently forget about the other cousins. I have worked hundreds of cases with Kemp with thousands of clients, most of whom would not have seen a penny if not for Kemp. Please beware, there are scumbag heir finders, but Kemp is not one of them. Like most industries there are always the bad apples. Kemp is easily one of the best, if not the best, in the business. I would also be happy to discuss any concerns people have about Kemp & Associates. (330) 769-4544 - Joseph DotyOne further comment in regards to Social Security Numbers. In this time of identity theft, people are understandably reluctant to provide their SSN. I know that Kemp has recently revised their process and only ask for the SSN if the absolutley need it in proving your claim. They may not have revised their forms yet. If you do not want to give your SSN, then don't.
However, during the estate process, you may be required to provide your SSN for tax purposes that are totally unrelated to Kemp & Associates. - Joseph Doty| 2 repliesHere is their Better Business Bureau rating:

You do not get an A+ rating if you are a scammer. - Kylie Kershaw replies to Robert A. BarrettI know you are an employee of Kemp and Associates and have a vested interest in their continued prosperity, however I believe they need to reconsider their approach when contacting people "out of the blue". My elderly parents were contacted repeatedly over the course of 16 months about an inheritance, that unfortunately caused a great deal of emotional pain for my father. They are saying that his mother isn't his mother. During the Great Depression his mother died of double pneumonia, before penicillin was widely available. He was sent to an orphanage with his brother when he was 4 years old by his father(my grandfather), because he could not care for them and work. Their father remarried 4 years later. A year or 2 later, my grandfather nearly died in the hospital after a ruptured appendix and shortly thereafter, his sons (my father and uncle) developed polio. He made their step-mother "adopt" them, worried if anything happened to him, they would not have a guardian. Subsequently, she did not want much to do with them, so they spent the rest of their youth in boarding school or camp. According to some states in our union, your real mother never existed, only the step-mother. The lawyers or paralegals at your firm had him go over these painful experiences and, after over a year of this, they say you have no right to anything. This was after they discovered his birth certificate listed his adopted mother as his mother. Shouldn't the "experts" at Kemp check this out the first thing before they drag him, or others, through this sort of agony???!!!
- Joan replies to kemp is faster on the drawI agree there can be many scams "out there" and these are associated with all areas of commerce, not just estates. Having said that, I work for a public trustee and I am one of those you state are the legitimate researchers. In my work to locate the heirs, I am faced with exactly the suspicious attitude some of you express. Because of an attitude that anyone researching for relatives wants to scam you, how do you expect us to find you? It isn't magic. It takes hard work, made harder by the increasing use of cell phones (i.e. no directory listing) and fears over privacy. Yes, the administrators do need to hire assistance, because as stated in an earlier post, they do not have the skills nor the time to do these intensive searches themselves.
- anne burroughs replies to Robert A. Barrettmy brother and i were contacted four years ago by this firm.my question is why is this estate taking 4 years to settle?and why wont anyone keep us informed about what is going on?it has been eight months since we have recieved any updates.

- peeved| 2 repliesI got an unsolicited call from Kemp & Associates saying a relative had died and I was an heir. They sent a package via FEDEX wanting me to sign up so that they could verify my inheritance and take a third of the estate for doing so. I got a call again asking if I got the mail and had time to sign it and send it back. I said I wasn't going to do so and told them not to bother me again about it. The next day I got a call from this individuals supervisor stating a different name for the individual that had died. I told him that I had told his subordinate that I din't want to be bothered anymore. I wound up having to hang up on the supervisor because he wouldn't quit asking questions. A person I know got a solicitation within a few days stating that their mother had died. It also stated the father had died. The name given for the father was actually the name of this person's younger brother. Their family is not so strange that the younger brother could be the father. If Kemp and Associates isn't a scam they are at least not very thorough in their research.

- peevedJust as I finished the last post I heard a noise at the front door. I looked out and saw a FEDEX truck in the driveway. A new mailing from my friends at Kemp & Associates! This time it is supposedly my mother that has died, not my father as in the last mailing. This one has a business card from the guy I told not to bother me any more just yesteday. This letter said they had reduced their fee to 20 percent, I guess since I told him yesterday that a public administrator would do it for a lot less than a third. Before anyone signs up to let these people handle an eastate for you check your state and local laws and government agencies. Why pay these people a lot more than a local government or even a private lawyer would charge?
