- Linda replies to Big D| 5 repliesI have a ref whistle that I have been blowing into telemarketers' ears for years and so far all that happens is after about the third time they quit calling! Works great!!
- BigA replies to Linda| 3 repliesI have good news and bad news. The good news is that the whole whistle/air horn thing will damage hearing. The bad news is that it will be your hearing that is damaged. That whistle/air horn thing is an urban myth.
Which is supported by the fact that you have to do it three times. - Bvery annoying-no msg left-got clr id is how the number obtained-must b scam cls-will report
- Caller: dont know
- RoseI've had several different 1-800 numbers call me, & after investigating them discovered they are like the internet scam emails I get. They've just graduated to using the telephone. I've found that if I don't answer them, they eventually move on to someone else. They've already tried to trick me into giving them money, I was frequently getting calls like this from Turkey. Today is the first time I've gotten one for several months, but thought others might benefit from my experience with these people. I don't have any debts, for them to be collectors.
- Rose replies to DavidThat number called me, & I don't have any debts. Be careful.
- Bgot recorded msg stating they have important prsnl info-got the # via cl rtn-this is bull-no name of person given-got 2 b scammers-am reporting to state attys ofc 2 fie suit
- Dogyeller| 5 repliesI have this phone number on my so-called "block list", yet they are still able to get through. I am on the National Do Not Call registry, yet they are able to get through. WHEN will we, the consumer who pays for our phone service finally get some help from the government or our phone company to protect us from the ongoing deluge of scams, robocalls and spam?
- Caller: none given
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MidNYteStorm replies to DogyellerThe DNCR is not meant to act as a call blocker. It is meant to prevent calls from legitimate companies.
- B| 1 replyleft message on sunday 9pm-recorded msg said has personal business push 1 etc-sounds like phone scam-they dont id themselves-i got their # vis call return
- WolfEyes replies to Dogyeller| 3 repliesIf I register my number, will ALL unwanted calls stop?
No, the Do Not Call Registry prohibits sales calls. You still may receive political calls, charitable calls, debt collection calls, informational calls, and telephone survey calls.
In addition, companies may still call if you’ve recently done business with the company, or if you’ve given the company written permission to call you. However, if you ask a company not to call you again, it must honor your request. Record the date of your request.
Stopping Unwanted Calls
What can I do to stop unwanted calls?
Make sure your number is on the Do Not Call Registry.
Hang up on illegal sales calls. If your number is on the Registry, and you get a sales call, or you get an illegal robocall, don’t interact in any way. Don’t press buttons to be taken off the call list or to talk to a live person. Doing so will probably lead to more unwanted calls. Instead, hang up and file a complaint with the FTC.
Investigate whether call blocking can help.- If you get repeated illegal calls from one particular number, contact your phone company. Ask to block that number, but first ask whether there’s a fee for this service.
- If you get unwanted calls from many different numbers, look into a call blocking solution. There are online call blocking services, call blocking boxes, and smartphone apps that block unwanted calls. Research whether the service costs money and whether it’s effective. Do an online search to look for reviews from experts and other users.
Since 2009, the FTC has seen a significant increase in the number of illegal sales calls – particularly robocalls. The reason is technology. Internet powered phone systems make it cheap and easy for scammers to make illegal calls from anywhere in the world, and to display fake caller ID information, which helps them hide from law enforcement.
What is the FTC doing to stop these calls?
To date, the FTC has sued hundreds of companies and individuals who were responsible for placing unwanted calls, and has obtained over a billion dollars in judgments against violators.
In addition, the FTC is leading several initiatives to develop a technology-based solution. The FTC has sponsored a series of robocall contests challenging the tech savvy public to design tools that block robocalls and help investigators track down and stop robocallers. The FTC also is encouraging industry efforts to combat caller ID spoofing.
What are the penalties for breaking the law?
Those who violate the National Do Not Call Registry or place an illegal robocall can be fined up to $16,000 per call.
Reporting Illegal Calls
Where can I file a complaint about an illegal sales call or a robocall?
To file a complaint, visit donotcall.gov or call 1-888-382-1222 (TTY: 1-866-290-4236).
Will I hear back from the FTC regarding my complaint?
Due to the volume of complaints, the FTC cannot respond directly to every complaint. The FTC and other law enforcement agencies analyze complaints to spot trends and to identify and take action against the people responsible for these illegal calls.
I gave you the phone number that called me illegally. Why isn’t the FTC doing something?
Current technology makes it easy for scammers to fake or “spoof” caller ID information, so the number you reported in your complaint probably isn’t real. Without more information, it’s difficult for the FTC and other law enforcement agencies to identify the actual caller. Nonetheless, the FTC analyzes complaint data and trends to identify illegal callers based on calling patterns. The agency also is pursuing a variety of technology-based solutions to combat illegal calls and practices.

https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry - B| 1 replywhen i caloled the # back (i blocked my# prior 2 calling) they had a rcdg that states"we are not accepting calls now but plz call back" they can call whenever they please but they are unable 2 b called-am contacting atty 2 file lawsuit-scammers need 2 b stopped
- BigA replies to B"when i caloled the # back (i blocked my# prior 2 calling)" Whether you caloled or even called them, you called back a toll free number. This means they have all your information since they are entitled to it based on the fact that they are calling you. This is a debt collector who routinely violates Federal and State collection laws. If you go to page 38, you will find a report on them. This is what you now need to do.
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested). You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All - BigA replies to WolfEyes| 2 repliesNot sure why you are posting DNC stuff twice when this is a well know criminal debt collector located in PA. You can see my report on page 38. It was also mention several times on this page that this is Penn Credit.
- WolfEyes replies to BigA| 1 replyI was providing additional information to what MidNyte said. Am I expected to read every single post in a 43 page thread or any thread I happen to post in that is 10+ pages long? That's a bit unrealistic.
Like I said in my other reply to you, if I'm not welcome I don't stay. Frankly, you are making me feel very unwelcome for no reason. I've done nothing to harm you or anyone else.
I certainly didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday. - BigA replies to WolfEyesI don't expect you to read every one, but I do expect you to read a little farther than the one you are posting too. The first thing everyone says the DNC regardless of whether it applies or not. I feel that accurate information should be posted. I also feel that relevant information should be posted. Telling someone about the DNC when you should be telling them about the FDCPA helps no one and can lead them down the wrong path. I am guessing you don't take criticism well? Well then i guess we should just let you post whatever you want and see what happens. I won't criticize you again. As to whether you want to keep posting or not that is up to you, but if you have a thin skin now, wait until you develop a fan club of trolls.
