- Resident47 replies to UKnowWhoFine then, stop crowing about it anonymously like a coward and serve a summons already if you have real claims.
- Resident47 replies to rUnbelievable to you but still allowed for another sixteen minutes per the FDCPA, unless you do something to change that.
- Resident47 replies to Jean BurnsMistrust of any ''wrong number'' claim is standard procedure at all the rogue collection agencies. You will never get satisfaction from a verbal request. Send a ''cease communication'' notice via USPS Certified with return card. This is the method promoted by the FTC and many consumer watchdogs, and the only way to set a legal landmine, as such a notice is ignored at their risk of a lawsuit from you.

https://800notes.com/forum/ta-34af6a034ba34b6/unending-collection-calls - Resident47 replies to w3The often aggravating secrecy from skip tracers is mandated by federal and state statutes and encouraged by prior case law. Such calls from other collection agencies have the good sense to drop the name of the hunted person somewhere in the canned request. So Penn is being overly cautious or needs to adjust its dialers to reduce confusion. You might have to engage a live agent or at least respond by mail for a straighter story. Any details gathered can be useful if you later find cause to sue for relief.
- Resident47 replies to The DoctorBecause you're angry about debt collection calls you'd planned to chew out a state office, which did not generate those calls. Throwing tantrums like a spoiled brat does not protect your rights. Learning what laws allow and limit would help. For instance, the call time you reported was legal unless MD law says different or you had given Penn Credit notice to stop. Besides which, not everyone celebrates Christian holidays.
Tax debt is not consumer debt covered by the FDCPA, and I'm doubtful that Penn was hired by MD to collect delinquent tax. Where's your mail naming Penn as a state contractor? - Resident47 replies to DebraThe familial connections made by skip tracers can be mind-bending, not to mention fairly desperate. Somehow I doubt the very distantly related, or rather "once related", woman is impossible for Penn to find.
- Resident47Whether you are called a debtor or some collector thinks you can flush one out, you have rights and options. Many are simple to exercise if you only learn how. You are entitled to proof of claim and fair treatment. If one or the other is not provided, the collection agency should not win your assets. You are granted control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue violators at low cost. The FTC and the CFPB can start you on your homework. See also if your state laws grant additional or stronger rights.

- Sunbird replies to LucyThey told me I owed a bunch of money to the State of New Jersey, Department of the Treasury, Soil Unit, from August of 1985! Basically, I told them it was BS and not to call back, but they still do. I actually called the NJ Treasury Department and we had a good laugh...there is no Soil Unit in the Department of Treasury. Plus, I was told that if the State of New Jersey had wanted to find me in the past 30 years, they could have easily done so. DO NOT WRITE A
